I have to say I’m a bit confused, and not about the tale or Becks (hope I didn’t misspell her name), but by the fact that you think that the content you produce is your biggest asset. At least in my view that is false, while I do enjoy your tales, even as a sweaty raider (retired), what I surely love the most about drama time is you, your way of telling any tale, your charisma and passion. Hell, you could be talking about pavement for an hour and I’d still listen. For me, you are the Top Gear of gaming and seeing your content is undoubtedly one of the highlights of any day. A bro fist to you Preach, may you never retire!
@ASpaceOstrich9 ай бұрын
Aye! Preach is the biggest draw for me. I love Drama Time, don't get me wrong. But as corny as it sounds. A bit part of that is that its because its an hour straight of Preach talking about something he's passionate about.

I loved that story. One of the few recent tales that reminds me of the older ones in Drama Time, the properly unhinged kind 😅 And the contrast with Mike's more pragmatic and performance-oriented mindset about the game was hilarious! I also kind of identify with the author, I got into World of WarCraft for its setting, the characters, places and stories in it. I created characters, played for a bit then deleted them, just to experience that part of the game with better understanding and get the chance to see things I didn't notice before. I only ever got into raiding in Wrath because a guild was looking desperately for a shadow priest for Naxxramas, and never cared for it unless I was playing with friends - which I was lucky to have or make along. Going into any form of group content with strangers, still to this day, makes me anxious, even if it is a random Battleground. But there are so many ways to play the game that I could be playing it forever. Thankfully I have never bought a boost or anything of the sort. I haven't even used the free ones; if I haven't played a character from the start to the cap it just doesn't feel right to me. I am glad to see that there are more people that play the game in their own way 😄

I mean, technically I feel like I could be the most casual WoW player.... I leveled a Night Elf Mage to 120 in BFA and just stopped (this was also my first and only time to play WoW). I found Preach as I was always curious about WoW (and his content appealed to me the most). Stuck around and followed his content through FFXIV and his Final Fantasy journey. Occasionally been able to catch the streams live as of late. Plus Drama time is a fun time to listen to while doing other things.

I'll be honest, way back in my teenage years during wotlk, I too deleted a few characters. And I do mean only a few, because I didn't enjoy the thought of capping them as that felt like the end of the game and also suddenly got the urge to try new classes. I stopped deleting them and just moved on to creating new ones whenever I got too close to level cap. This mindset lasted maybe two or three months, whilst I continued leveling new characters. I then understood endgame still had a lot to offer and somethings I wanted to do only became available when capped, so I got over it. This guy though...had issues.

Dude puts more time in WoW in a week than I do in a year lmao. I have been playing since Wrath and have put on average 50 hours a year in the game. I have joined a "hardcore raiding guild" one time, found out what I have to do to actually be ready for normal raids, and didn't log in for the rest of the expansion because it was too much grinding. The only important stat about gear is what it looks like. Fashion over stats is always my motto and I RPGs, I will struggle fighting strong enemies because the strong gear looks like ass and my starter weapon looks so much cooler. Bex is closer to my play style than this sweaty OP non casual

I've played wow for over 15 years on and off with long breaks between, and I do the creating and deleting characters without capping them, too. For me the reason I delete them is because it's been so long I don't know how to play them anymore (not that I knew to begin with). I hate clutter on my character selection screen also. Never paid for a boost, though, can't imagine the pain of doing that and then typing 'delete'.

Besides the "casual" guy being probably on at least one spectrum or another, I have to say that defining casual purely by time spend is kinda missing the mark as well. I would argue it's more about the commitment to something that makes one casual. In that regard the guy is certainly casual when it comes to his characters (seriously, this warrants some psych eval..) but he certainly seems to be commited to the game overall, giving Blizzard almost 2 grand just for character boosts (20 years of subs and 11 expansions surely mean everyone of us old guys has given Blizzard at least 1-2k as well).

In my eyes, the moment you take a step beyond what the game provides you innately, you are stepping off the path of what a "casual" gamer is. Just by engaging with Drama Time means you aren't a casual. A real casual would be someone like my friend who plays FFXIV just for the story and never does any other side content. It'll also take him months to get through an entire expansion cause he can only play for a few hours a week. He has maybe 6 mounts and barely has any content outside of MSQ unlocked. His only alliance raid is the ARR ones because he needed those for obvious reasons. That is a casual.

I think the author doesn't know what casual means. Casual is those stories about players literally never capping because they play 2 or 3 hours a week tops and mostly farm herbs. I think casual either has far too broad a meaning or has lost it entirely. To me “casual” means you don’t play often and likely don’t attempt the more “difficult” content. This isn’t to say you lack skill but that you just don’t care to put the time in. You can completely ignore half the game and hardcore grind all the minions or plants and that removes any “casual” claim. Unless I’m out of the loop I feel this interpretation of casual is the “correct” one.

Never bought any character service in WoW. Ever. I just make a new character if I need to. I would rather play the game than hand over fists of cash for services that should be free. Yes I have abandoned raiding guilds who transfer, I don't care you're now dead to me for abandoning my server and killing it a little bit more. If anything these services becoming normal absolutely destroyed the Classic Vanilla spirit of the game. You made choices and you kept to them. Now everything is for sale and loyalty and ethics be damned.

Please, Author, if you are reading this: Play any game that has come out in the last 10 years for a better and more meaningful experience. For example, the Mass Effect Legendary Edition is often marked down to 15-25$ on Steam often enough and you can role play as a badass space commander with their own space ship flying around and saving the galaxy. All you have to do is turn the difficulty to 'story mode' and you'll have a blast. I promise you this will be a better experience than this miserable existence. Mass Effect is only the beginning. You can play Baldur's Gate 3, Legend of Zelda, Dragon Age, Uncharted, The Last of Us and many many many more... please stop please......
