Empress Dowager's speech shows why she was the one who remained standing during her time in the harem and even in the future during Ruyi's time. Hailan was right when she said that Ruyi's heart will be her downfall.

What empress dowager said is so true that the king's heart is the least you can trust...
@vivanyatodd50364 жыл бұрын
I kind of understand that. A king was surrounded by too many peoples with clashing ideas and purposes, not all of them good for him. In the court, he had to deal with ministers and officials who sometimes only seek their own benefit, wary of any sign of revolt (especially in a huge empire like that with so many vassals tribes). Even his own personal servants sometimes had ulterior motives. Added to that, his harem also definitely whispered all sort of ideas for their (and their birth children's) benefit when he spent the night with them. Listening to all of them almost 24/7, he really need an exceptionally strong heart if he didn't want to be swayed. And even then, I don't think there ever been any emperor who managed to stay firm for his entire life (of course, except probably those who ruled only for short time)

This is why zhen huan was able to survived in the harem. She didn't care about the late emperor's heart.

Dowager tried to help Ruyi, by telling her the truth. I think she came to really Ruyi and didn't want her to suffer as an empress. She knew her son and how the system worked.
@Bewitcherboss6134 жыл бұрын
Yo the empress dowager dropped some knowledge on Ruyi. She’s basically saying to Ruyi that it won’t be easy for you and you’re gonna have a long road of disappointments. Ruyi is the type that cherishes love but she can be naive at times. Sometimes love is not enough. Personally I think that the empress dowager low key likes Ruyi because she resembles herself. Never wanting power but ends up getting it.

You can watch "Empresses in the Palace/The Legend of Zhen Huan" - which is the loose prequel to this film (which is also the work of the writer who wrote Ruyi). The Empress Dowager here is the protagonist of that film - who has underwent pretty much the same path as Ruyi, but her outcome is a lot brighter.

But unlike the empress dawager.. Ruyi is still pure. Ruyi is someone who still retains her innocence even in all the chaos.. And we all know how dowager is like *cough. *cough. Ruyi saw no importance in faking things. After all, in the end she would be just tormenting herself more. I just love how she left that Insecure dumb emperor.

@@caoduynguyenvuong3016 so The Empress Dowager was the lead in Empresses on the Palace? In that show she started out just like Ruyi, young, idealistic and also naive. By the end of the show she had transformed into a cynical, jaded and hardened woman who became as ruthless as her competitors. She basically saw history repeat itself.

Even without taking the Emperor's love for Ruyi into consideration, there's just simply no one other than her suitable to become the Empress. The Qing's royal family value pure blood and social statuses above all. Of the two main rivals of Ruyi, Noble Consort Jia came from a clan that hailed from Korean origins (at that time, Korea or Joseon was a tributary to the Qing Empire, no less) and Noble Consort Chun came from a family of Han origin with a rather low status, with her only noticeable achievement being bearing the highest number of children for the royal family. The royal family of Qing who hailed from Manchu origins would never accept an "outsider" Empress like these two. Ruyi, on the other hand, hailed from a clan that had given birth to more than one Empress. She also has the virtues, knowledge and wits suitable for the position as the owner of the Inner Palaces. Simply put, even if the Emperor did not love Ruyi, he would still not have any other appeasable choices other than her.
@zimbomah124 жыл бұрын
All that as well as she original status: She was the 3rd highest ranked woman in the harem behind the Empress, and Noble Consort of the Gao clan, when Qianlong became Emperor. Of course Noble consort (Huixian) died early, so it was rather a natural progression up. Noble Consort Chun was probably the only one that could challenge her for the Phoenix throne, but as you said her clan was of Han origin/and a lower status than Ruyi’s. Ruyi also had the backing of the Empress Dowager. The incident during Empress Xiaoxian’s funeral (which did happen in real life) had Noble Consort Chun reprimand and shunned by the Emperor. Nonetheless both lady Chun and Lady Jia were said to be very influential in court. Ruyi staying Empress for 15 years should tell you the incident that would ultimately cost her, her life was very swift and abrupt.

So that's why he didn't promote another step-empress after Ruyi. But if her family was influental, why did the empress dowager pressured the emperor to make Xiao Xian his empress?
@caoduynguyenvuong30164 жыл бұрын
@@vivanyatodd5036 because of a feud that she had with the Empress of her time, who happened to be Ruyi's aunt. Initially, the Empress Dowager greatly disliked Ruyi because of that reason. You can see why. Plus, the Ula-Nara clan lost their prestige at the time.

Love is a self-preservation act, loving others and the self. If you give 100%, you will feel empty inside. Let's say loving your own child, someday he would be independent of you and find his partner to be his everything, then, you will be remembered as the mother in his childhood. Probably, a husband is the same, he will remember his wife after office-hours or on the road to the house.

This is a Wonderful drama. I love Ruijy's caracter. Thank you.
Translation is wrong Yonghuang is NOT son of Chun. His mother was murdered he chose Ruyi. Then she was framed and sent to Cold Palace and he got stuck with Chun.
@ebonyloveivory4 жыл бұрын
Some of the translation is slightly off but nowhere did they mention that he was her son. Ruyi only mentioned that they BOTH brought YongHuang up. It doesn't matter if he chose either one of them or not. People who watched the show would've already known that.
