Yea! When I was young I watched the Labrant Family and I was angry and quite jealous that one of their children (everleigh I believe) got so many brand partnerships resulting in her getting all the newest toys that I wanted. I honestly feel bad for all these children because even if they get a lot of toys and presents they are probably worn out from always being put in front of a camera and faking their real life. They can’t consent or say no, either….

I used to watch a few family channels in my teens. In the adoption niche. Which kinda makes it worse. But it had that 'wow' factor. The families were usually large (8+ kids) The families (mainly a channel called Crazy Pieces) I watched all seemed to have a healthy family dynamic. This may not have actually been the case because you can control what you put on the internet. But I didn't think about that at the time. I guess the appeal for me was exactly that. These kids, in my view back then, were growing up with things that I didn't have. My family is dysfunctional. We're also not super wealthy. My parents got divorced when I was 15. I found comfort in that kind of content because of what I had lost. Plus, growing up I always felt like I was adopted. So maybe that explains my interest in adoption content. I'm 22 now and I haven't touched content like that for 2 years now. I hope this helped in broadening your perspective, Ben. There's a lot more that I want to talk about, but it would honestly be too long.

I know some family vlogs are more advice based, like “how to put a toddler to bed” or “how to explain death to a child”, and I think those are great, making family advice accessible to lots of people without those people needing to pay for it is inherently good (in my opinion). The problem arises when it’s selfishly motivated.

my situation is a little different, more tame than some of these youtubers. but my dad is a pretty public figure where i live. he's in a popular local band and he brings a whole lot of attention to our family. and he likes documenting things, he always has. and i never saw much wrong with it until i turned 11 and realized i didn't want to be photographed or videod without my permission anymore. sometimes he'll sneak in my room and start recording and taking pictures when I am in my pajamas and having me-time and just wanna be left alone. i don't like it at all. i'm 16, almost 17 now and i became more vocal about my distain of his behavior. he always guilt tripped me into it. he'd threaten me emotionally with his own death. it irritates me how he just posts my face to the public when i don't want it. it's made me have a lot of issues with my face and body dysmorphia. and I'm not alone in this, all of my siblings hate it too. i hate it so much.

So when I was about 10 (currently 15), I was OBSESSED with this channel called That KZbin Family. I think the reason I liked it was because they did content with their older kids as well as the kids that were my age so I thought “oh cool, they must enjoy doing this”. BUT NO. I literally remember a video of one of the girls saying they would stay up until 2-3 in the morning recording videos and editing and then wake up at 4 to get ready for school. That is what disgusts me now. I can’t believe that parents would do that to their children and that they didn’t see a problem with it. And the only reason they had to stay up til 2-3 AM was because they had about 7 channels! Of course they were staying up that late. In any case, I find it gross and just.. no. But then? I thought they were the perfect little happy family. (Spoiler alert, they’re not.)

I have one brother and both of my parents own two businesses so they couldn't play games with us like that family could. It made me very sad when they were too tired to play Granny or Among Us. Looking back at it, I realized that most of their money came from recording their kids and KZbin.

The main audience for the family channel videos (as a lot of the other comments are saying) is like 7-12 year old kids ish and I think that this is because the kids watching don’t know any better. Karina(sis) got a comment on one of her videos saying something about how she isn’t the same person she was before and she replied saying that’s the plan. maybe the kids liked being recorded as children but now anything they do (mostly Karina) is linked back to when went wrong in the past for this to happen and she most likely wants to be a different person from when she was like 10(idk how old she was 💀) If you read that whole thing, thx 😅❤️

When I was younger around the ages of (8-11) I watched family channels and a lot of youtube in general because I was not in a really good position in life and the only thing that I did and was really allowed to do was to watch youtube and that is where I had found family youtube channels. I never really watched the ones about unboxing or the ones purely based around children or that were based around gifts and money and things because I didn't really care about that stuff. Still, I watched the ones where family would be together doing activities and playing games together because I had never really gotten the chance to experience that so that was the way where I could feel like I was involved in that aspect of a family and I received joy from it. But as I got other that stuff didn't appeal to me anymore because I had grown out of that mindset and started thinking that it was a little strange. But I will always be thankful for those channels being accessible to me at that time because in truth it had helped me a lot. Anyway, less of that rant I highly doubt that anyone will read this but it is good to think back and reflect.

Unboxing, or unwrapping videos is the best as a kid. It's so entertaining. I stopped watching it though, about a year ago. Which was also the time I gave away all my toys. Now I'll just watch Gilmore Girls on Netflix, or I'll read a fictional book. I'm addicted to reading. So....yeah.

ok so, not very proud to admit this, but i was obsessed with the ace family from when i was around 11 to when i was around 13. i guess i just really fell into the trap of the whole “perfect family” facade they put on. they were always happy, always having fun, and since i didn’t have that perfect, rich life myself, i enjoyed living through them vicariously. once i got older, i quickly started to see through the cracks and realize that not only were they obviously only showing us what they felt they had to in order to keep up this image of a perfect family, but also that the whole idea of filming your CHILD for money is so exploitative and unethical. i suddenly felt so guilty for having idolized these grown adults who were exploiting their child, but the fact of the matter is that they know exactly what they’re doing and it was no accident that me and so many other kids fell for it. they WANTED children to see their perfect lives, feel bad about their own non-luxurious lives, and, in turn, keep watching their videos in order to live through them vicariously. and i, along with many other ppl, fell for it

I used to always watch family channel when I was 16. I stop watching them when I was 18. I was so jealous of them little kids of how much gifts they used to get on Christmas and birthdays but I never ask my parents anything or harassed them for more things cause I know they situation. Beginning of this year I had more free time so I went to my subscriptions after years not looking at it and I was shocked I had 900. I can't remember who is these people I did subscribe to at the time. Now I have 271, I did subscribe to so many family channels. Now I only watched like 20 channels.

When I was little and was on KZbin ( I got social media at a VERY young age) I would love seeing family channels and like u said in the video, a lot of the toys and stuff like that I would see I would ask my mom or dad for them and we never had a lot of money. And a lot of the family channels would be like “ we got a new house” and i got very upset bc I wanted the same lifestyle.

i would watch family youtube channels as a kid because i was just so bored and i was always so sad that they had a rich happy family with their bio mom and dad who loved eachother, i always wondered why my family was divorced and both lived in apartments and not living in a mansion. it made me jealous so then i would hate watch them just to be like "ugh they are so spoiled and mean. i don't like them" but then when the day was done i would sit there and wonder why they have all of that stuff while i dont. i really do think that it is toxic to show kids opening 50 christmas presents while i would get 10. i think that its fine to do a day in the life where you and your kids go to the park and have fun on the slide. i will admit i watch famila diamond or something while doing homework just for some background noise but i do think that it is toxic to show your kids getting all of these great things that most familes dont get.

I don’t know why People would do this… Why the hell would my parents put thousands of baby photos on the Internet where old men would could save them to the computer or something like that The reason why I kind of stopped watching the family channels is because every year they get worse and worse. No go to sound rude to the Norris nuts or anything but but maybe like two years ago they never asked for subscribers and they promised us they wouldn’t really ask for subscribers we could do whatever they want but now in this generation they keep on saying subscribe to our channel I know not everyone’s going to agree with me on this but it’s kind of like every time we move up a year, more faker and toxic social media gets…

i used to watch family channels when i was like maybe 8, the soul reason i watched them was probably for comfort. My parents were huge workaholics when i was little so i loved watching videos of other families who were always "there for each other" (looking back none of those families were f=there for each other lol) as i got older i started to realize those families were most definitely not healthy and theres a lot of horror stories with them. anyways I loved this video and i enjoy listening to your rants ben!! :)

when i watched family videos in primary school, it was bc i was lonely as an only child and usually in the videos of my favourite channels they had a girl who was roughly my age and the middle child so they had the experience of being the older and younger sibling. i lived vicariously through them bc i found my home life lonely, and theirs was exciting with lots of presents. everytime it was my birthday or christmas i would ask my mum for the presents they had gotten in the videos, and even though my mum did give me some of them(which i really was grateful for) i never felt satisfied bc it wasn’t to the scale of theirs. Now that im in college, i see that the scale and grandeur of these presents is inappropriate and bad for both the children receiving and the children watching, and i hold nothing but empathy for little me who just really wanted familial companionship, especially as i wasn’t allowed pets.

When I was 6 I tried to go to Walmart with my mom and I tried to get a WHOLE BOX worth of these kids toys that I saw on a kids chanel and I wanted that so when I tried to get it my mom said she couldn't afford it and I didn't listen and I started crying, but now I understand the sad look that my mom gave me everytime she said we couldn't afford toys

When I was around 9-11 years old I would watch family channels A LOT. I feel like it was damaging because I would always see the kids get hundreds of gifts for their birthday or for Christmas and it made me more disappointed whenever I got gifts that weren't nearly as big . I would always dream about becoming a youtuber or whatever and I didn't ever think about all of the negative things that would come with that. Even thinking about it now is kinda sad because real life will most likely never be as exciting as it seems in those videos. I just feel like it sets most kids up for whole bunch of disappointment and having unrealistic expectations.

i lived a financially secure life and i still watched these channels, i was very bored as a child since my parents didnt always want to watch me play with my toys so i would watch people on youtube play and i found these channels of kids playing and having fun and it was kind of like they were my friends in a way i had friends but i didnt spend all my time with them the bright colors and high saturation really helps with children because it helps keep the attention of young kids and for them being loud too or even some making weird songs omg i just realized how lonely i was--- i was like 6-11 when i watched these channels and the channels i mainly watched were evantubehd, fgteev/fv family/skylander boy and girl, familyfunpack and a couple others but not too much i really have concern for the kids when they get older because their entire lives are on the internet for people to see and starbucks doesnt wanna hire some kid who was on ryans toy review

I was obsessed with Family Fun Pack when I was small , now I realized that the whole channel was like “making a kid” “preggo again” “kids” “kids” “kids” and omfg I didnt even realized when I was watching it that the parents show the kids personal life with weird fake scenarios 😭😭
