My mother had a French Provençal dining room set. Over the buffet, she hung a gilded mirror (portrait) and around the mirror lots of antique plates that we would get her in antique shops over the years. It looked quite beautiful. It's an idea.

Me too! I love green!!! My great room is a classic color of green and we also painted the mantle and the surround of my fireplace the same color as the wall. It is so beautiful. My kitchen is open to the great room so we painted the bottom of my island the same color and it looks fabulous! You just can’t go wrong with green.

3:09 that light should stay in the green room the light picks up all the tones on it and your eye moves around the room. The dinning room the mirror needs to be landscape just over centre to the right, just a little and also positioned near the cornice. The sideboard leave there and hang artwork above it.

That smoky green paint adds such dignity and weight to the room. It's fantastic with the chandelier glass! I am team portrait for the mirror. Carole is right that being able to see the reflection of the chandelier in the mirror is desirable. The new placement of the sideboard is a nice balance across from the window. It will afford a pleasant view for those sitting with their backs to the window. Maybe a small gilded wall-hung table/shelf under the portrait hung mirror (giving the same effect as a mantle) would ground the mirror and support the visual weight of sconces or pictures hung on either side of the mirror???

I have always loved Lincrusta too. ♥️♥️♥️ I’m jealous; no place to put it in my smaller house. Though I’d liked the mirror landscape, I like portrait better. It makes the room look taller. With smaller sconces/candle holders than the original plan, there’s room for a bit of art too, if you wish. Love the wall candelabra in the living room, though I can see spacing is tricky with the lamp. Great idea to print the hanger; my brother has a 3D printer and he’s always doing stuff like that. I wouldn’t say he uses it daily, but probably a project a week, from practical to fun. He didn’t like the front end of his scooter, so he turned it into a Godzilla head (which he designed himself). The headlight shines out of its mouth, and he steals a bit of that light to make the eyes glow. 😁

I think the landscape position of the large mirror works much better with the square or rectangular dimensions of this room. Otherwise, you are trying to fit a rather long mirror (portrait view) into a smaller room with much less height than what you are used to in the chateau!

The mirror looks fine portrait as long as it is centered on the room and chandelier. Those sconces are too busy for the mirror, though. They look much better in the green room. They really pop in that room. Less busy sconces in the dining room. Maybe with shades. The chandelier drops really sparkle with that wall color. And Adrian is right about the GOLD clock. That color will make any gold in the room stand out.

Carole that particular mirror simply is wrong for the dining room. Go shopping for a wider fancy gold mirror, I said this last week or put up a beautiful painting perhaps. Sconces are good to use if they are fancy enough for a dining room. Watch out with creating a dark cave in rooms. I think two walls was enough with that green.
