how would you recommend starting fencing? ive taught myself dueling/polish saber but i've never had anyone to spar with. would you recommend sport fencing before continuing to do hema or?

I’m would recommend seeing if there’s a Hema club in your area. However there is definitely value to practicing some Olympic style fencing for at least a while. Foil in particular because it forces you to work on your footwork more than anything else. At the end of the day though finding people to spar with and pressure test your technique is king when it comes to hema

How does it work with coaches? Do they also have a coach?

It depends. Some do, whether it be someone more technical than them in their style or someone who's trained in a specific style they want to learn. Some self study and others are satisfied with where their skill is and are just looking to teach and refined their own style. There is no "final boss" of coaching.
