I wonder if you’d consider demonstrating how to paint a blue sky with yellows such as this one, alla prima, without turning the sky green?
@DafyddTimothy2 жыл бұрын
It is a great question and a real challenge... there aren't many options - the green effect is a real problem! with this sky, I'd usually start by painting the canvas with the blue as a gradient sky, let that cure, then oil back in (coat the painting with a fresh layer of clean oil) and only THEN go in with the yellows; basically using the blue as a priming layer. The other option would be to go heavy impasto with a palette knife, but rework is impossible and the slightest smear will green up in a heartbeat!

@@DafyddTimothy thank you for the tips! I was sort of stuck on that issue 🙂🙂

You speak of Michael Harding Oils as a favorite so I went searching for "Permanent Blue" and see no listing of such a color. Can you clarify or perhaps this hue is from a different manufacturer ?

Hi - Yes... I'm definitely a fan of MH, but I do have a wide selection of tubes from other manufacturers picked up along the way! I believe that permanent blue was the Daler Rowney Georgian range...
