I think his mountains are the most satisfying thing to watch, the way he sharply parts the light and shadow with one movement of the knife. It always looks like such a natural snowy rock texture at a distance. There are others that can replicate his style pretty faithfully with their own twist and whatnot, but no one quite captures those mountains. I feel like I could spot a convincing forgery.

A friend of mine got the whole set of Bob Ross series for me. I practiced until I could create these beautiful happy clouds, with Acrylics. I watched him many years ago. This world lost one of its brightest lights when Bob passed away. He changed a lot of peoples life, gave hope in a world that’s busy telling people what they CANT do. Bob always said, “Yes you can!”

Years back in my teens, I got up at 7am to meet the lads on a Saturday for a big bike run. This guy popped up on the TV and I fell back asleep and woke up at 9. Oooops. Bob was not just a painter, he was an entertainer. Such a lovely sounding person whom loved his animals too

Oh I love Bob Ross, I've watched every episode, I've tried painting with GESSO and was surprised how easy it was to work with. He is legend, an inspiration to us all. 🎨

What do you mean, PAINTING with gesso? It’s a canvas preparation medium, to make it as smooth as glass if you wanted to, or textured. You paint on top of it to make the paint float easier instead of being absorbed and lost in the fabric of the canvas. Are you working with expensive raw canvas that you stretch yourself? If you’re getting panels from Michael’s, gesso might be a nice touch to prepare your surface for painting to slide easier, it’s not anything magical. Now what IS magical is retardant mediums (for acrylics- it’s extending the drying time and makes acrylics act a little more like oils in terms of being able to paint and work your details on your timeframe). You can get thick gel, glossy, or matte, or iridescent, or even floetrol, used quite differently than painting a wall of course

Thanks for the compilation . Whilst I do love his clouds. His trees 🌲 are my favourite - at least in my world. I also use his videos to send me to sleep when I can’t sleep at night, such a soothing voice and choice of words and phrases.

When I first saw him on television, I was just a kid and neither knew his name nor that he had died. I guess it was a rerun on PBS like they do these days on Sunday mornings with Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. I had those old memories of that painting show unlocked when Bob Ross streams became a thing and he even had a Chia head of him advertised. From now on he's my creative inspiration and I'm not even a painter.

I love this. I actually gave up on painting. Not that I don't enjoy it, but to get Bob's results you need Bob's paint or expensive paint with less oil and wax. Clean up is a chore especially. Acrylic doesn't do it for me either. I still wonder if Bob's cancer wasn't because of the thinner, beating the brush.
