I love your choice of palet and the way your painting process is described in the written notes and then just enjoy your painting process as you work both from photos, real experiences and from imagination and intuition … 🎶💜🎵🦄😊

Wonderful to see how you use a quite "bland" reference and then giving such lively vibrancy to it in your painting using colour. This type of painting should just be the exercise for me who tend to always slip into the rut of painting a scene "exactly" as it looks. Thanks again for a lovely video. I cant wait to try.

Love that! I’ll be taking another look at my photos. I some some really nice ones but I didn’t paint them because I thought the lack of colour made them boring. Now I can try this. Thank you!

I had somewhat lifeless sunsets, but I had watched another video you had done where talked about the transition of colors in the sunsets. You mentioned including the transition to and from green. I had never seen green in sunsets until you mentioned it. It brought life to my paintings. In this one you used even more green and color notes. Fantastic!

Do u use any medium in ur oils? I just love ur style…so loose and vibrant👍
@MalcolmDewey11 ай бұрын
Not during the actual painting. Make sure the paint is soft from the tube. Paints like Rembrandt or Maimeri are easy to work with bristle brushes and mediums.
@lindagiese960911 ай бұрын
@@MalcolmDewey ok..but if my paint from the tube needs a tad softening, is there a particular medium u recommend? I sometimes use Gamblin Neo Magilp or the Solvent Free fluid…
@MalcolmDewey11 ай бұрын
@@lindagiese9609 just use a few drops of linseed oil. Work it in with a painting knife until soft.

Hi! this is so inspiring . I love your work and have purchased at lest four of your paintings which I love to look at when I paint, to own anything you have painted is truly a blessing and inspiration. I have registered for many of your classes, but I was wondering if you had more classes about clouds. I am very insecure and feel I need to learn even more. Also I was wondering there seemed to be a few more blue colors on your pallet and I was wondering what those colors were. Also I am missing two of the colors you had used, would manganese blue gambling work for cerclean blue? Would winsor and newton orange work for cad orange? Thank you soooo much for you lovely lovely work
@MalcolmDewey2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I am happy to hear that you enjoy the paintings and classes. Have you joined my live channel? The monthly classes and critiques may be helpful. Take a look on my school site. Re manganese blue? Not sure it would work for cerulean. Blues vary a lot between brands too. Try Maimeri Classico cerulean of you can. Yes the orange will be fine.

Are you switching paint brushes when you switch colors? Or just cleaning the same brush? Great video!
@MalcolmDewey Жыл бұрын
I try to switch brushes from light to dark paint. But more importantly is to wipe the brush regularly every few strokes. If it is too far gone I wash it, dry it then carry on.

Do you use any medium with your paint or that’s just Rembrandt oil paint texture?
@MalcolmDewey2 жыл бұрын
No mediums. Just use a soft buttery paint like Rembrandt. Maimeri Classico for a student brand that is excellent too.

How do you get your paint so flowy? You don’t seem to use that much thinner. I paint with Cobra Study water mixable oils and it seems I need to use quite a lot of paint media or water to get the pint flowing for as long as you do, but then it’s so thin 🥴
@MalcolmDewey3 жыл бұрын
I'm using Maimeri oils and they are soft and buttery out the tube. If paint is a bit thick out the tube prepare it with a few drops of linseed oil. Mix well with a painting knife. It should then be fine. Not too much oil though.
