As someone who watched the whole series on this topic, this is a great summary, but all 3 55 min phys videos were incredible and definitely worth watching. Andy’s done an amazing job as usual 👍👊

Great work Dr. Galpin! I myself used several imaging techniques to image muscle sarcomeres back in grad school so this video was informative and nostalgic! Looking forward to the more detailed video too.

As usual... this (from you) is great, but please, make a new one ( or another one) where you may kindly explain/covering more in depth one very important factor..... Balancing ( at the 26;30i ish to 27;30 ish) Respectively, I see a to kick in & out of that IMPORTANT factor..... making previous ( or say your part 1, 2 & 3 in depth) incomplete !.... My opinion in all respect to you incredible shared info. Much appreciate and grateful to all what you bring. Thks

Hi Dr Galpin, After viewing some of your work, I was thinking, "Would the following help me get strength, hypertrophy, and strength-endurance all in one -- 1. I get in a push up position and a friend puts a 25 lb plate on my back, and I do 4 reps to failure (strength) 2. My friend takes the plate off - I do 10 more push up to failure (hypertrophy), 3. I go knee push push up and I can get another 10 to failure (all in - I get muscle endurance)... (I don't think I could squeeze in any clapping pushups - so no power included...) What do you think of this routine, say every other day? Would one accomplish strength, hypertrophy, and muscle endurance reasonably well?" Any tweaks to make this routine more overall effective and/or add a power component? Thanks! John

Total guess but I'm guessing that years of working out when your body is already very sore(muscle soreness). Sending a strong stimulus repeatedly to muscle tissue that IS ALREADY BROKEN DOWN is what causes hyperplasia. Basically making the stimulus for growth very strong repeatedly so that when your body does get rest and does recover it recovers with a greater adaptation Because the stress period was very long. Unlike the typical person who might work out every 3 days or 5 days. This will cause growth obviously but the stimulus just isn't strong enough to invoke that kind of adaptation

Nucleus overload if you have read on that, or just in basic terms overtraining would suggest this idea. Never tried it, but many people have and have got great results. But its still something we should look more into.

If you take two identical twins, one which undergoes in-series hypertrophy, and the other which undergoes radial hypertrophy, how would their performance/biomechanics differ?

3:51 there has been a mistake in the structure of the muscle. Many sarcomeres in series make up a myifibril. In the figure, which is from a 2019 review by Brad, a myifibril is composed of sarcomeres in series and in parallel... That's not quite the structure of a muscle fiber...

i wonder what happens to the quads when a professional cyclist undertakes a hypertrophy/bodybuilding style program...do they grow larger since type one fibers are larger than normal?
