As a member of gen z, I’m happy to hear your nuanced analysis on this topic. I was fully expecting some tired old bashing of wider leg pants like every other millennial men’s fashion channel on KZbin, but this analysis was thoughtful and clever. You earned a subscriber.

@@aaroncampbell1752 hey, thanks my man! Yea that kind of negative take on style is not what I hope to do here. I always feel like with personal style, there’s really no such thing as right and wrong, it all just part of the fun of expressing yourself with what you put on that day. Glad to have you on board, bud!

Hey thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying the channel! I'm kind of mixing up the format a little bit to be able to get monetized, but I'm gonna make sure and keep the ideas a' flowin'! Happy to have you on board!

This is such a good video. I just found your channel from your army trainer video, and i really love it. Really insightful, but also just really a chill and fun to watch. Deserves way more views than some other bigger fashion channels tbh

Hey thanks my man! I really appreciate that - Sometimes I can’t tell if maybe this kinda “podcast style” is too chilled out, but ya never know what kind of pace everybody wants to watch. I’m glad you enjoyed the vibe!

I was hoping you'd mention Jnco Jeans. I always thought tighter jeans were direct defiance against wide leg jeans like Jnco. Cool video!

I tend towards confirmation bias over information ops. Clearly someone says, well, pants can't get any skinnier, let's push the needle in the other direction, everyone after that either believes the hype or is unwilling to take the backlash for buckling it. Skinny pants (the whole cropped men's look) was an incredible innovation, bringing into discussion ideas of masculinity, health, fitness, and even binary dress. I think that's why it lasted 15 years. This wide-pant moment is cute but will only be smoke in 2 or 3 years.

I think you're exactly right. For us who remember the days before skinny pants, there seemed to be an era where pants didn't seem to have much of a fit at all - they were just kind of generic straight fit, no? And sure Armani might have had his days of generous pleats, but most pants we would go out and buy were just kind of there. And yea, I agree - the skinny fits did seem to coincide with the entire "metrosexual" era where guys could journey into buying fitted clothing and take notes on self improvement. I don't know, I have a few pairs of wide leg pants and a few pairs of skinny pants, and I'm just happy to be able to have a choice in a range of styles depending on what I feel like that day. I hate to see any style being labeled as in or out, why not just enjoy the variety?

I'm curious to know if you could give your two cents on Polo's new(ish) Salinger and Whitmann chinos that are inspired based off of some of RL's more classic, 80s chinos which have certainly gained an almost cult like following in recent years?
@SomeNotesonStyle2 ай бұрын
Oh sure! Admittedly, I have not seen these in person, so this is somewhat of an educated guess here - of course, trying them on would always be best - but here goes - First off, they both have a 12" front rise according to the description, which is a good sign. When I worked there, we would sometimes be guilty of shrinking that rise to fit more like a jean, but these days with a more vintage fit at 12"/15" front/back rise is pretty spot on with the 80s Polo versions. And the Whitman's 16" leg opening is also nice, not too tapered - so when you'd cuff 'em, with the sturdiness of RL's chino quality, the cuff with have some staying power and not get crumply or fall out. Secondly, buying a new iteration of a classic RL chino is gonna be better cause the fabric will probably be a little bit softer and more in line with a premium chino you'd find from other mid/high price brands. Sometimes if you buy true vintage Polo, depending on the year, they can sometimes be kind dry feeling and not so soft. But some folks like that too - but sometimes feels a little stiff 'n crunchy by today's standards. BUT - the only thing I'd be a little nervous about would be the pleat depths on the Whitman - which they don't detail online. We would always be a little skimpy on the pleats when we would remake old pleated chino styles, cause the old versions really went deep - usually like 1"-1.25" on the inner and .75"-1" on the outer. Usually the newer ones we'd shave off like .5" off of either. Cause if they're really deep, it might give you kind of a rounded hip line - maybe a little feminine? But if the rise is high enough and they really sit on your belly button or higher, the deep pleats can have a nice soft, falling line. Although I could be wrong - like I said, I haven't tried these on - I would just say, sometimes, if you really want a good distinctive pleated look, sometimes the vintage is better there - and also safer to size up and pay for a tailor to take 'em in at the waist, cause you never want a pleated pant bunching out at the pleats if it's too trim across the waist/seat/hip... Hope this helps!

The fad is bad. Stick to classics. Avoid clothes that try to hide the body.

The fad is bad - this phrase alone is perfect! I think Cary Grant and Clark Gable were some of the only guys who could pull off the wide leg pant look in the last 100 years! The rest of us can only dream!
