I've been doing pull ups my whole lifting journey. When I was 15 (6'3, 75kg) I couldn't do any, now I'm 24 (6'3, 90kg) and have 35kg attached to me for a 3x5. Can't wait to be doing 50% body weight in a couple years.

Thanks for the video Andrew. Quick question when you talk about +10% weighted negatives, you mean the added weight, or the total weight? I've been kinda stuck at +20kg for the past 4 months so kinda looking for ways to improve
@CaliToTheCrowd8 ай бұрын
Sorry, yes that was unclear. So for example. if you can currently perform a 20KG 1RM pull Up, I would recommend starting with a 22KG Weighted pull up negative because you are stronger on the eccentric. Then as you get stronger, working with more weight. Let me know how it goes - hope you smash through your plateau!
@Junaid-xd9sz8 ай бұрын
I was stuck at +20kg for literally 9 months, tried everything negatives, static holds even hit arms / forearms but made no difference. What helped me break through the plateau was doing less i.e training 2x a week weighted pulls/ eating more protein daily and following Dominik Sky’s step loading method. (It’s known as the russian step loading method.) Can pull +40kg now I used my strongest grip (neutral) every Mon / Fri and on Wednesday I did pronated for volume but ensured I was not going to failure and bodyweight only. Hope this info helps keep pushing.

pullups are a big weakness for me. once i started attempting chest to bar pullups i realized that most people, myself included, can't really perform even 1 chest to bar version. even trying to hold a static of chest to bar is impossible at the moment. i have had golfer's elbow issues that impact my training. not complaining, just being realistic.
@userunknown15788 ай бұрын
Chest to bar lat pulldowns with a pause at the chest really help with this... Same with chest to bar pike pull-ups.

@@CaliToTheCrowd thanks, andrew. i had built up to about 8-9 chin over the bar pullups that are nowhere near as hard as chest to bar, but i haven't been working on those lately either. good to you on the weighted reps!

Does bodyfat affect our weighted pull ups sir?
@CaliToTheCrowd8 ай бұрын
It will and lowering our body fat will make it easier to perform weighted pull ups. That being said, it is important not to aggressively lower body fat too quickly as that will impact our ability to keep the muscle that underpins the whole movement
@Frezzaroukos.8 ай бұрын
You suggest to do first the +10%orm negative weighed pull ups and then do the weighted pull ups?
@CaliToTheCrowd8 ай бұрын
No, the other way around. So in an example training session, I'd do 4-5 sets of weighted pulls (about 3 reps) Then 3-4 sets of weighted negatives with a heavier weight 👊🏿

how do u manage CNS fatigue, like any tips on frequency of training heavy? I can also do 50% but going further has been leading me to various ups and downs in my performance

REALLY GOOD QUESTION! Tbh I used to have the same problem before I started periodising my training and adding 2 rest days a week rather than 1. For example I will do 6-8 weeks of hypertrophy (8-12 rep range, lower weights etc.) Then take a whole week off. 0 workouts. Nothing (I still hate these weeks). Then I'll do 8-10 weeks of heavy work (3-5 rep range. Big breaks). Weds and Sundays are my rest days, and ever since doing this, my progress has been way more predictable 💪🏿 I go through it all in detail here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2XTqqyAp8Zkf80 Hope this helps!

I would agree that pull-ups are way more sensitive to body weight changes than dips. Which is strange because the entire body is suspended in the same direction in both moves. Maybe it’s because a pullup takes a bit more strength to do than a dip.
