I've struggled with this for years to the point it killed my desire to draw. The endless, mind-numbing exercises. Drawing eyes, heads, hands over and over and over and my art never really improving. I'd draw 20 hands with reference but without one my hands didn't look any better. I think a problem with Drawing tutorial channels is they have to keep making videos of new things so you feel like you have to learn everything before making your own thing. At least that's how I felt. I gave up my dream of being a comic artist/writer and just tried being a writer and it's much easier. I didn't watch any tutorials, I just started writing and the experience of writing has taught me more than any tutorial I've watched. It's not great but there are some scenes that I read and they're genuinely good. No amount of writing advice will help if you don't write. I don't know if I can do the same with drawing but this video has made me consider it. I find drawing aimlessly and studies boring but I enjoy projects that require creative thinking like character design or comic thumbnails as they stimulate my creative thinking.

Facts! Years ago I joined a drawing group on Deviant Art and their weekly or daily assignments made me finish drawings. Also inking over professional artists let me realize how much more I could be doing.

@@MakimonoEntertainment Muscle memory. Greg Capullo ( I think that is how you spell his name) artwork looked VERY different when he drew Guardians of the Galaxy. Huge THighs, with tiny calves and feet and hands. After inking and drawing over TOdd Mcfarlanes breakdowns, he got much, much better.

@@MakimonoEntertainment Sorry. Not Guardians of the Galaxy, QUASAR! I collected them both at the same time and there was some story crossover a few times. When he first started drawing that , he is unrecognizable to his current style. By the end, you can see it getting there.

The thing I wish I had started doing A LOT SOONER was working on projects. Take an idea, maybe it's a comic book idea, and start putting it together a little bit at a time, day by day, month by month you'll see it come together and it will refine your skills better. You want to do an animation...start storyboarding it. Whatever it is, just start and it will reinforce what you know and show you weak points and will make you get better at them. That's what I would do, but that's just one opinion 😁

@@-kurow-7113 and how would I get to that point? Sorry but making art is so incredibly painful because I am so afraid that I'll never get where I want to be. Making art is so important to me but if I can't get to a point where I can make the things I want to make there isn't much left for me in this world. @@ashleybanks-wm4cg yeah been trying to get help for over 2 years now. I am now conviced that god is real and that they hate me. I am not quitting. I can't. I used to be pretty decent, but now I can't get halfway through one figure without feeling like shit. It's just a mess of lines even though I have been doing line quality excercices like crazy. I've been practicing primitives, manipulating them and making organic shapes. Art is the only thing I actually care about and just thinking about it makes me sad now. I wanted to animate like Milt Kahl and make comics like Mike Mignola. Now I just pray to get through one practice session without crying.

@@itshel2677 That's incredibly hard and I feel for you. First I would recommend stepping away for a while, a day or three...maybe a week? then come back to it fresh. Clean slate. Try it in a completely new way then you have before. I would recommend the Pewdiepie way. That works for a lot of people. But if not that way then try things you haven't tried before. Subjects, styles, anything you're not used too. Good luck and wishing you well 🙏
