I really appreciate that you took the time to make lessons like these that are free and readily available to those who don’t know where to start and can’t afford art classes, you’re a great dude. Personally I’ve been drawing for a while but I’ve been struggling lately, and feel like maybe I should slow down and study some fundamentals to help me get back into it and improve. This is exactly what I’ve been looking around for and wish I found it sooner. Excited to get started :)

Hi I am 30 Years old. I am so mad about myself. I use to draw there and then but not constantly my last 10 years. I use to draw a lot around high school up to 21, then I stop. Then I drew around 24-25 I think. I may drew a little around 28 and a little around 29. I love learning art and design but I don't keep it consistent. I blame myself, I blame my gaming Addiction and mucking around with life etc. However I am going to try this year as I am getting older and I don't want to miss out on all the things I can learn. I also love learning musical instrument so I am training myself in that area but casually. Am I too late to start because I fair I wont work as an artist but this year and the next few years Im going to give it my all. I found out why I am not drawing consistently, because I am alone when I do art I am not getting involve in communities like I use to when I was young and other barriers. Do you think I am wasting my time? maybe theres too much too learn at 30, I wish I was 25 again doing this because thats the age where I started to understand how art works? please what are you thoughts?
@Uncomfortable
@Uncomfortable Жыл бұрын
There's no need to be concerned about your age. When decided to change careers from programming to concept art, I ended up attending classes with another student who was 36 at the time. He went on to become a successful concept artist and art director - you can see his work here: www.artstation.com/tppnr The bigger concern is how much focus you're putting on "blame". It's not useful, nor helpful, nor productive, to worry about what you could have done - although it's extremely common to see students self-flagellate in this manner. It convinces them that they're doing something productive, that punishing themselves will somehow help them make up for their perceived mistakes. It doesn't help. It takes time and energy away from what you could be doing now, from recognizing the choices you're making in this moment. Your past choices are what got you to where you are now - the starting line of a long journey. There's value in that, in the fact that you're here now. So don't waste your time on negative thinking, on blaming yourself. Put it to better use.

Hello i am confused i just started 250 Boxes challenge after completing lesson 1. what are this new videos you are uploading. should i watch them again i am confused
@BernardoSutter
@BernardoSutter 2 жыл бұрын
Uhm, so, I am no expert, so please someone else reply to this question as well. But AS FAR AS I KNOW, he constantly replaces old videos with newer and improved versions in an effort to make the course better. But I am pretty sure he would want you to just keep going, don't be too perfectionistic. There isn't much new stuff, just saying the things in a different way, trying to answer questions people had, etc. These are all the videos from Lesson 0, so you already know this stuff, it just wasn't as pretty and maybe as well explained. You can watch it again if you are curious, but you really don't have to, just keep going. He replaces the videos on the website where the old equivalents were.
@Uncomfortable
@Uncomfortable 2 жыл бұрын
The new videos are basically revisions of the old content. The material isn't changing, but we're improving the quality, and trying to increase the parity between the written and video content. If you just finished Lesson 1, you'll notice that the videos for the Lines and Ellipses section are way newer (and better) than the videos for the boxes section. We started the overhaul with L1 last spring, but our apartment flooded and we had to put all our equipment into storage, so that got stopped pretty quick. When we were able to start again, we decided to bite the bullet and go back to L0, starting from there. Those videos had been posted in January, but I reuploaded them because I had to edit in new sponsor cards/recommendations. As to your question, wouldn't hurt to watch the new Lesson 0 videos. There's only 4 of them out right now, and they may help you catch anything you may have missed previously. For example, the only one that's new as of today ("Getting the Most out of Drawabox") does get into explaining more directly that people should not do more work than was assigned, how to get feedback, etc. All of that info was available before, but people tended to miss it when it wasn't fed to them via video.

Definitely go through the course from the website, starting here: drawabox.com/lesson/0 . When videos come up, watch them, then go back to the website and continue the reading. It may feel a bit redundant, but going through the material in different formats helps improve the chances of you absorbing the material effectively.

@Uncomfortable Жыл бұрын
Me neither. I actually made a video about it for Proko's channel, which you can find here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gojKiYauraqdndU The important thing to keep in mind however is that when it comes to building up these core fundamental skills of drawing, that ability to visualize does not actually replace the need to develop one's spatial reasoning skills. In my experience, having taught many students who can visualize, is that the visualization is more of a distraction. It convinces students that they should be able to draw better than they can right now, and makes them very frustrated when they don't meet those arbitrary standards. Without that visualization, we go in without as many unreasonable expectations. It makes it somewhat easier to just accept that learning this skill, like any skill, takes time and effort, and that at the beginning we are all babies who don't know a damn thing. But that such things can be learned.

just wondering, is it possible to dedicate to drawabox while a full time student?
@Uncomfortable
@Uncomfortable Жыл бұрын
Drawabox has no deadlines, and no specific expectations on how anything will take. All we ask is that students do the work to the best of their current ability - which means committing as much time as they need, even if that means spreading an exercise or a single drawing across multiple days. As a result, students in all different situations are able to take the course. Some will be able to complete it more quickly, while others will take a lot longer, as a result of their other responsibilities.
