As far as I'm concerned, the only live-action Superman movie costume is the same comic version which Reeve wore. It's not dated, nor is it impossible to embrace. "IT'S SUPERMAN"! It's one of the reasons I don't even bother with these new incarnations. It's simply all wrong. Chris was the last real live-action Superman in my book, and always shall be.

I can’t be the only one who thinks Christopher Reeve is the perfect Superman, in appearance. Being an alien, Superman does not need to be big and beefy - this is how Batman should be. But Superman can be any shape, and still be an absolute powerhouse, due to the nature of his powers. Reeve’s wide eyed innocence, naivety, and general range of facial expressions really sold the character for me.

There are 8 billion people on the planet and millions of people have seen the Donner Superman films. The book is on the way! I love your capturing of the Clark/Superman and Chris/George Reeves characterizations at 3:22. The scene in the first movie where Clark almost reveals himself to Lois - changing his posture, body image, even his HEIGHT, and then changing his mind and shrinking down again has stuck with me for so many years. I think you are right and this performance has cast such a long shadow that no one else has truly been successful. Henry Cavill has tried really hard, in researching the part, being as true to the source as he has been allowed to, and his appearance, but Chris's shadow is still there.

He just is Superman. Christopher Reeve was so kind and genuine before his death and his portrayal of the character perfectly encapsulates that. This version of the character will live on forever. I’m 21 and this and the DCAU Superman are the versions of the character I grew up with. For the DCAU Tim Daly and George Newbern respectively, though I prefer Tim Daly to George Newbern. But Christopher Reeve is Superman in my eyes and his version of the character is my favorite version of Superman. And the suit is just perfect. It’s absolutely beautiful. This Superman always reminded me of my grandpa so every time I rewatch these movies I think of my grandpa the entire time. I miss him. He died when I was 6. So Christopher Reeve’s portrayal of Superman will always keep him in my memories.
