I always tried to finish my drawings as fast as I could when I was a kid. Usually just an hour or so. In my early 20's, though, I got out of drawing, but most recently - I'm 39 now - I've gotten back into it mostly just to see if I could still do it. I started getting back into it by just drawing a couple of simple perspective drawings. Then I decided to go for broke and try my hand at drawing the cover to my favorite comic book, the Death of Superman, and I did it! That was the first drawing that actually took me a few days to complete, but I did it! Now my current project - featuring an American old west theme - has taken me a little over a month. Still quite a ways to go on it, but I'm loving every minute of it!

I started to draw almost year ago, because I wanted to do something more in my life than playing video games. Now everytime I start play something I got feel that I'm wasting my time. Does anybody have similar feeling? EDIT: After 3 years, I think the reason why I felt like this is bc I felt I have to work enough time to consider myself "done for the day". I based my self-worth as artist (and as human being) on how much I could draw given day. Now I didn't got out of this mindset of time "spent on drawing = my worth", but at least I recognize this so here's that lul

This is exactly what I needed today! For a long time I've wanted to draw, and to be good at drawing. I've always been a writer, and I continue to write, and it's wonderful and I'll never stop, but there are so many times I wish I could supplement my stories with visuals, but I haven't had the skill to draw them. This year, I started setting out to really learn to draw, to practice daily, to put in the work even when it was discouraging how far I was from where I wanted to be. And I've been very discouraged lately. But this video really helped me get encouraged again. It's okay if I'm not any good now. I can be like a child, and just draw. One day, I'll be able to draw the things as clearly as they are in my mind. But until then, I can just draw, every day, and remember that just the act of drawing is worthwhile and wonderful. Thank you for making this, and helping me get out of the rut I've been in.

Outside influence is a big topic nowdays! I'm not sure if this has something to do with age but I noticed while getting older that I like to do the simple things I did before, also as a kid. Drawing, is one thing but also playing an instrument, spending time outside and avoiding the internet's social media or the internet itself while beeing on holidays. I think the most important things are being ignored by even younger people or even kids already.

Dan, your videos keep getting better and better the more I watch them! You are an AMAZING artist who is very humble and a great teacher. I don't know how old you are, but from watching your videos I guess only in your late teens or early twenties, and to have the ability you have at your age is a credit to your hard work and dedication! Have you ever considered becoming a tattoo artist? I reckon if you did, you would become a very wealthy and sort after young man, considering that one of the top tattoo artists in the world is charging $1,000 per hour!! If you went into a tattoo studio with your portfolio, I reckon they would probably snatch your arm off, or may feel you would be a threat to their business! Lol.😆 Please keep making you drawing videos, they are FANTASTIC and very inspiring 👍. Many thanks, Neil.

I'm old, but I had the exact same dilemma. I lived for art and really wanted to go to art school. But I went to high school in Nebraska and this was before the internet, so I had no idea how to make that happen and neither did anyone around me. And honestly, my parents didn't have the money for that anyway. So, I joined the Navy. I drew aboard ship, I drew daily life there and drew all the places that I was able to see overseas. I absolutely hated the Navy, though I look back now and see what an incredible experience it was, and how much I learned. If you do join the service you can use your GI Bill to go to art school afterwards. And THAT'S where the catch really lies. Because it's at this point most guys get married and have kids and end up not doing what they had planned in the first place. I'm all about people getting married and having kids, but if you really have a dream you need to make sure that you make it happen. I'm rambling now... time for my Geritol™
