Decided to start a Steven Universe series because I LOVE Steven Universe. It's literally one of the best series to come out of Cartoon Network! Here's my take on Jasper!

I always wondered if that’s another reason why she wanted Lapis to fuse with her again so badly. Not only did Lapis make her feel strong, but when fused, there was a clear goal in mind to stay fused and stay trapped. It was a horrible purpose, but it was probably the closest she felt to fulfilling one and filling in a role someone expected of her.

Jasper had way more to her than people give her credit for. She was tactical, dedicated to her job, knew what she wanted and sadly deprived of a healthy relationship that she secretly wanted. Remember how dejected she looked when another corrupted gem refused to fuse with her. She wanted thst closeness with someone so bad. I honestly hope she gets a healthy relationship post the end of the series. The last we saw her, she was just enrolling in the school Steven and the Crystal gems set up. We need more for her.

Jasper is honestly my favourite character in Steven universe and Steven universe future for two reasons. 1. Her character growth reminds me a lot of one of my still favourite characters Katsuki Bakugo. Her personality and determination remind me of him too, except for the obvious differences. She goes from hating Steven and calling him Rose, to wanting to protect him in the end. 2. I had a huge crush on her, thinking she was a boy, but then found out she wasn't. This caused me to have an even bigger crush on her 😅😅😅. And not only that, she's an inspiration to me for determination and strength and growth as a character. I love her so so much

I couldn’t emotionally handle how dirty she was treated throughout the show. Pretty much everyone was given a redemption ark, but Jasper was treated like some Sunday-morning-cartoon villain. Despite having her be treated like the antagonist, they still show that she had unaddressed pain and trauma. Especially after the malachite thing. She had no support system of any kind, was alone on an alien planet, lost her purpose, etc, and yet the show celebrated every time she was beat up by the crystal gems.

Jasper, in my mind, is a war veteran with ptsd. She was in war, made for it, and it was suddenly ripped away and nowhere to be seen when she next woke up. That kind of sudden change does stuff to a mind.

It’s also worth noting that when ever we see Jasper fight the gems she does it in the name of Pink Diamond who is her creator. Jasper was displaced and was left without meaning while the diamonds had to find out what to do with her since she lost her main service. (To protect pink diamond and her colony) While grieving Pink. Jasper fights Steven who she thinks is rose quartz because she is angry that she couldn’t protect Pink diamond and angry that she lost the meaning of what she was built for she was faced with a big change. Change is something we see homeworld Gems often get angry when they face it because they usually don’t have to face it and are expected not to. Jasper was forced into change. Jasper shows her panic and distress in anger a lot and she most likely blamed rose for having her go through such a big change that made her feel threatened.

She didn't consider Steven a threat until she made the connection that he had Rose's gem. This is because Rose is one of the few beings she considers to be genuinely worth the energy. And once she has her sights locked on a target, she isn't going to let it go until Steven literally kills her. She doesn't respect you unless you prove to be superior than her in strength.

Jasper deserved a real redemption arc, she was handled so poorly and still mistreated by multiple people.

I always felt sorry for her. Like Steven said in Future, she’s just waiting around for a war that isn’t going to happen. Because that was her purpose. What she was literally made to do. In little Homeworld they have a class on how to make decisions for yourself, but Jasper was a highly respected veteran from the war for earth, she knew the terrain and knew the gems she was facing. She took them on so easily because she knew how they worked. She is a soldier and knows nothing else because she wasn’t really allowed to BE anything else. She helped Steven break through some barriers with his abilities, but the result was her own shattering, and Steven saved her. She then began to refer to Steven, and respect and salute him like a diamond. Like the last era was still going on.

Jasper is the so called "Perfect Gem" which is kinda proven in the episode where they find her hole. But she also has her emotional flaws. When she becomes Malachite she loves how toxic the relationship was so she literally hunted down Lapis just to fuse again. I think Jasper is really unique and cool!

Jasper is such an interesting character, she's the gem equivalent of an orphan and no one knows or cares. The closest thing to a parent that the gems have is their diamond and Jasper's diamond, was Pink. She was made as a super soldier to fight in the gem war. She was formed on earth, by order of Pink Diamond, and she was a great fighter. Pink's best warrior. But even then it wasn't enough and Pink was "shattered" making Jasper and the rest of her army failures as their side lost and they needed to be split among the remaining diamonds, orphaned. And now Jasper serves whoever will take her, eternally feeling the loss of a gem that was never meant to die. Believing that she is at fault, because if she had only shattered Rose Quartz, her Diamond would be there for her and the rest of her earth-born siblings.

I feel Jasper as a grieving character, is over looked. When we first meet her, she clearly to the viewer, just another one of Yellow's lacky. Indifferent at best, callous at worst. Then as the story continues we see Jasper taste "power" and her mind slowly break down to its coreself. Feeling powerless and outside of control. Then in the Kindergarden, we see the epicenter of those feelings. Grief / Confusion. Grief for the gem she was made to serve. Who she saw. Who she was programmed to love. Then to have that ripped from her, by another she believed to be on her side, from the same "home-world" (meaning Earth here), betray and kill that idol. Jaspers story I feel is overly looked, as for me I see her as a shame filled character for not being able to protect the one being she was made to do. She is a soldier who failed her first and only mission, and was reassigned to another leader. - Earth made gems seem to have this theme of shame and the trend of being more emotional. Look at Amythest and look at Jasper. Polarizing but mirrored stories. Grief for the loss of Pink/Ross. Shame for not completing their mission / not being how they were designed to be for Pink Daimond, and Anger for not having the power or feeling powerful / in control. Amythest had a support system, the Crystal Gems; however, Jasper did not for the longest time. - Just my thoughts though.

One thing I noticed after re-watching the episode where Steven accidentally shatters her and then fixes her was that after getting shattered the stripe of orange across her eyes was broken- the entire series up until that point it was completely solid well except for one part that didn't go all the way through. After that episode in the future there was two of them

You should do a series of drawing star vs the forces of evil characters if vou haven't watched it it's basically about When magical princess Star Butterfly receives a royal magic wand for her 14th birthday, she proves to her parents that she is not ready for the responsibility that comes with it. As a result, they send her to a place that doesn't have magic -- Earth -- in hopes that she will gain maturity. Upon her arrival, Star is given a family to help guide her, so she moves in with the Diaz family, which includes teenage son Marco. Star takes Marco with her as she battles villains - both in their high school and throughout the universe - as she attempts to protect her powerful wand.

Also my take is that since she is “perfect”, as Peridot says when they go to her kindergarten, she has always had this image of being perfect and if she isn’t then who is she, which is why she trains all the time even if there’s no one to fight. That’s because that’s all she’s known since birth and she has come to accept it as who she is. It’s also like in the real world. People who are “smart” naturally often do well in school and almost never need to study in early grades to get good grades. They are told they are so smart and the work ethic is never judged so they don’t believe they have to study. But as life goes on they lack the necessary skills to study and when they actually have to they might fail if they don’t have the skills or have never practiced. I’m saying this because it’s happened to me. I didn’t fail at almost any assignment, except for when I took my first honors class in 4th or 5th grade. I learned to study and am still learning good work ethic. Luckily for me I didn’t learn too late and am ỉn highschool. My midterms are coming up so wish me luck 😅 And that is why I think Jasper is an interesting character
