For so long I tried to emulate what it's like to live a hood child. But the abuse I suffered I just couldn't translate that to the manga form. I gave up but something drove me to make my manga now. Yeah there aren't as many black characters as i like but the main character being my grandpa, who took me in after being abused, is well more than enough for me. He's a light skin black male just like pawpaw and I think I'm good there for now. I agree it's a mix of both that make a good indie manga. The issue arises when those artists make being black their whole stories identity.

Shouts out to you bro, I've been trying to find a reason to get back into drawing I've missed it but lost the passion for it fir years but I've recently been inspired by some of my old art and have been wanting to step into the comic/manga world, I honestly feel like being black and not having a bigger community and or support system is what cause me to lose my way wit it. But I'm definitely coming back and seeing this and hearing you speak on you experiences got me feeling the confirmation to get back to the flow of it! 💯💪🏾👑

Studying comic artist passing through your channel, and fresh off of watching Look Back, one of my favorite adaptations of something I already loved as a favorite. Thanks for this video. Your insight is rare and inspiring to me. Also I love listening to black artists because, until I moved to NYC, black people couldn't exist around me locally. Wasn't a good place for most people to live and I was stuck in that place people called "The Bubble" until I was physically an adult. A brown queer furry adult that didn't lose his personal culture to others. 9:45 this point is similar to something I've appreciated Hayao Miyazaki said. He speaks more harshly and from a specific fear, if I remember correctly. That kind of warning sticks with me because it feels reasonable. I think it was along the lines of "artists are forgetting what real people are like." 10:40 while I write my first story, I find myself drawing shapes and writing beats that are "what I wish the story could be like." I keep leaving from what I am and what I've been, because I'm too scared of writing a boring tragedy I can't finish, instead of a gag manga comedy that can grip the heart.
@WolvyDrawsАй бұрын
@@takemetoyonk hi. Glad to have inspired you some. We should definitely be heeding warnings from our seniors like Miyazaki.

Yeah I’ve definitely always had this gut feeling that I can’t make relatable characters if I don’t consider real life. Since I’m 14 its harder to like make any connections but I feel like the more patience I have and the more knowledge on people I gain, ideas for character personalities are finna easily come to me. Dope vid man, you’re artstyle is great I wanna make a manga too.

I feel where you’re coming from 💯. I was actually “off the porch”, and active in my days. It is unfortunate that there is so much negativity in the space. I actually gravitate towards comics to get away from that. A lot of guys say they are from the hood, but they don’t move like it. They move like they want attention, to be validated. It’s not what you say or where you claim to be from, it’s how you move that shows what’s real. My resume is thick and I’m respected in my parts, but who cares…this is comics, a “nerd” space 😂. I try to uplift people and speak sound advice. People are messy because they want to be seen. I lowkey don’t want to be seen at all, but I try to impart suggestions and advice from time to time. Keep going bro, be a positive in the space. ✊

Tru. I can't understand the attention seeking. Ion want to be seen, I wanna eat . Appreciate you tho.

@@WolvyDraws That’s real. I made some smart moves on the front end, so I could do comics on the back end. Dudes have to elevate their mindset, and stay out the way. If they don’t, they won’t even be able to sit in the restaurant, let alone eat. Let me get out your comment section though. Be smooth.

With all the drama and ego of these amateur creators out here the community has a lot of maturing to do. You're speaking a lot of facts here. I'm not done with my novel yet but once I am, I'm gonna translate it into a manga. You are either blk or you aren't. You aren't light-skinned, you are fair-skinned. Half blk biracial people although in a ruff spot have never understood the concept of the "One Drop Rule" nor how it was used to confuse blk people about what it meant to be blk, and to create a loophole where Yt men didn't have to claim the mixed-race children that they forced upon our ancestors. Many like to confuse this issue with actual colorism, but that's just not what it is. But it ain't yall fault. It's ours for never abolishing that issue created centuries ago.
