I have been OBSESSED with Demon Slayer for the last two years and just NOW am I finally getting around to drawing all my faves from this show!! So here's my take on Shinobu Kocho from Kimetsu No Yaiba, or Demon Slayer!

I think there's an argument to be made that it being closer to her sisters death might make her easier to sway. Tanjiro's desperation to save his sister might resonate with her all the more.

Shining canonically believes that if a demon starved themselves and refuses to eat a human than she will defend them. It says this in tales of Fire and Water the spin-off.

Honestly, the fact that Nezuko hadn't eaten any humans would definitely be the main reason for Shinobu to not kill her. That and how Nezuko acts around her brother, likely reminding Shinobu how kind her own sister was. I have no doubt that this lady wouldn't have harmed her.

I have to agree with your second theory! It makes a lot of sense that Shinobu would spare Nezuko because of Kanae's beliefs. As a manga reader (this isn't spoilers, don't worry) I can say that Shinobu does still hold her sister's beliefs close to her heart, though it's not great for her mentally. Really lovely art!!

Plus Tanjiro’s protecting of his sister would resonate with her a lot. Having lost her own just 2 years before. And seeing Nezuko defend Tanjiro would all impact into an emotional scene where Shinobou makes the decision to save them both.

What I think is that that is some incredibly beautiful art

shinobu makes an appearance in the fan book “stories of water and flame” which whilst not ‘official’ is widely accepted as canon and the official backstories. in this she says “if a demon ever chose to die of starvation… instead of eating people… i would care for it to the very end” in the scene where they meet giyu nezuko can be seen crying whilst pinning down tanjiro and protects him instead of eating him, which means that shinobu might see this and recognise that nezuko should at least be given a chance especially if tanjiro says the same thing he does in the show of “she hasn’t eaten anyone” and maybe shinobu’s scientific side would come out and she’d run some tests on nezuko too either way i don’t think shinobu would kill nezuko in this scene if it plays out similarly to/at the same time as the giyu version

In the gaiden,while Giyu did not care for Yae,Shinobu stood there looking like she will cry. She asked her to stay strong. This was gonna shot herself… I do not hate Giyu whatsoever but the way Shinobu treated Yae was so kind😭
