I've been doing pyrography for a good few years now, and I also always kinda struggled to get proper clarity in my lines, especially on hardwood. But then I bought a proper temperature adjustable tool thing with the wire nibs, and it changed everything. Doubt anyone will see this, but if you do, and you are seriously interested in pyrography, I highly recommend going for the blocky temperature adjustable ones over the cheap soldering iron like ones. Get a better product in half the time, and have more fun doing it.

Hey Jazza, I've done stuff like this before and to make sure your image pops do the torch burning first and then use some sand paper to clear the center. It helps keep the grains of the wood from overpowering your image. Have a good one man, love your stuff!

I love how fast you learn, adapt and figure out what to do from mistakes. The end results even though it was made of wood it looks like a actual painting where wood was not involved. It just goes to show how amazing of an artist you are, Jazza. Thank you for always being such a huge inspiration to me.

Yay, Jazza did pyrography! I've been waiting for this! A couple tips (pun intended): 1. You CAN actually erase a little bit with sandpaper. You have to balance erasing it enough to fade away with the damage it does to the surrounding wood, but it works really well and can save a piece if you need it. 2. If you want a smaller, more manageable version of the blowtorch, you can use a culinary torch. Basically it is a small, one handed use butane torch that is safe for indoor use. 3. I like the idea of using gouache, it made for some cool effects, but since it is water based it will raise the grain of the wood. I actually bought a set of decently cheap alcohol markers specifically to use for this purpose. They are, however, less subtle, but again, you can sand the wood to fade it out if you don't like it.
@MizusSparkles
@MizusSparkles 2 жыл бұрын
I was actually wondering if he sanded it before at all and if he didn't could he have had a result he was even more happy about. Also I was thinking he could have sanded the rustic tree one to make it pop a bit more like he wanted.

Ooh, so that's what's going on with a wand that I recently carved and painted with watercolors! I couldn't figure out why the wood I sanded smooth looked rough again after painting. I just wanted to add some color without hiding the grain. 🤔
@MrJoeMaster13
@MrJoeMaster13 2 жыл бұрын
To elaborate on the sandpaper can you use a pointed Dremel for a more precise erase? They makes Dremel heads textured like sandpaper so I thought this could work.

Sandpaper, an eraser in drawing and painting can be as important and/or more so. And when it comes to wood that means sanding and removing marks or (works well on staining and colorants) softening them with intention, with the right tools. Going back and forth, adding dermal work and more burning, can take things even further. Thanks, and Keep the fun coming Jazza!

I am very jealous of how good your practice work looked. The last time I messed with wood burning didn't look so good. I want some wood rounds to make viking shields, lol. So, for Americans you can get a cheap wood burner at Walmart, Hobby Lobby, or Lowe's/Home Depot. You will never get the scent of burning wood out of your sinuses. Use bare wood with no treatment cause the chemicals will be very bad while burning. You might want to do this outdoors or at least in well ventilated area. I still remember what it smelled like and it's been like 7 years or so. I'm not expert but this is the information I can pass on. Good luck. I need to go to town and get a new wood burner now.

I had a woodburning class in highschool and also did some woodburning in a workshop at a place I lived for a few months. As a tip, some mistakes can be corrected or at least partially corrected with sanding. That's one of the reasons it's good to burn lightly then trace back over it. This also makes an easier path for darkening the lines without getting sucked into the lines of the grain as much bc of the different hardnesses of each ring which is what can cause lines to come out looking splotchy and uneven

When I was a kid I used to watch my dad do wood burning all the time and I loved the smell of it so much and thought it was so cool I really wanted to try it. So I asked him and he let me do it. Of course he supervised. I ended up making a really cool rose and then I painted it and gave it to my mom as a gift. It is still hung up in her office to this day. I'm still proud of it. I want to do more wood burning. I loved it I've always loved drawing and always been good at drawing and this was just a more fun version of drawing to me. I used the angled tip that you showed off. He had other ones I could have used but I chose that one because I liked that it had a pointed tip that I could make fine points with and with the flat part I could make thicker lines. Plus, I used markers and things like that with the same angled tip all the time so I figured I was used to that type of tip. I wish I could share my wood burned rose in this comment. That would be cool!

would you ever consider trying the traditional Ukrainian art of pysanky? it involves using a stylus of melted beeswax and writing it onto an egg, then dyeing it, waxing again, and repeating. You can make any design you want, doesnt have to be traditional and you dont have to have slavic origins to partake or anything. It takes a lot of patience and skill and i think it would be fun if you wanted to try :)

Also he could try many different ways to dye it so it'll be fun. In my home it was kid's job to decorate eggs and we were using paint

I went to an art camp when I was younger. we did stained glass, stone carving and wood burning (among other things). It was all so much fun and I learned a lot, but wood burning was my favorite! I knew you'd eventually get around to this, Jazza, and I'm glad that day has finally come!

This is kinda how I got into laser engraving/cutting. Now I'm obsessed and starting a little business lasering. It's not exactly the same thing but it's very similar and I love the precision you get with lasers!

I am starting to love this series about all kinds of different art mediums and see how you would apply to them and what you can do with them. Although, I am a bit concern for your safety this video.

Always listen to the wood. If something doesn't seem to work or get stuck, mostly there is a reason for it, forcing it won't bring the wanted effect. The grains give a piece character and if it is possible to include the specifics of the kind of wood and its natural colour or quality, there is so much to win for a final piece.

This was really cool. I'd love to see what you could do with different wood stains now. Wear gloves tho, your hands will thank you lol.

Yay! You tried wood burning! It’s so much fun and quite satisfying. Yours looks pretty high end quality. The one my cousin and I bought you felt the heat through the plastic and felt like you were going to burn yourself just by holding it. Would recommend getting gloves for it. And careful not to drop the tools. I burnt my favorite blanket in an attempt to be comfy but have fun burning epic pictures. Also! I love that you’re doing roleplays. That was my favorite thing to do as a kid. Creating stories and improving all the story dialogue creating something amazing! It’s like acting but without all the budget needed.

Your videos are amazing! But I really struggle when you do the end and there's alot of rapid movement and flashing. It's not great for people with epilepsy or photosensitivity 😥

Those burning tools would lend well to this drawing method used a lot in nature sciences, where you have an outline and then everything else is dots. Lines closer to the light and the viewer are thinner, lines further away from the light and from the viewer are thick. The dots grow closer together, the more the area is in shadows or further away from the viewer.

Wood burning is fun it's such a nice medium plus you can technically burn with more than just wood such as leather, cork, thick watercolor paper, bone, ect.

Just a tip, oil paints thinned with linseed or mineral oil are great for staining wood. You color it while preserving the grains, and when it dries it helps to preserve it

I just want to say first of all, thank you. I found you years ago, i dont recall from where but you had collaborated with another youtuber and I recognised the accent and had to check you out. Through you I found drawfee who are currently my favourite channel, they bring me a lot of joy and i may not have found them because of you. When i found your channel I watched your content religiously. This was around the time when you were drawing monsters in 3D with the oculus. I kind of grew out of your content when i took a huge blow to my art self esteem. I stopped watching all art content on youtube but recently i came back because I started making art again and honestly i am really enjoying your content again. You seem to be really enjoying making these more tactile things and it really comes through and makes super enjoyable content
