These pencils are exactly as described on this review! I recommend a KUM long point sharpener, and the Pentel Light, or Sakura SumoGrip erasers. Both are a must with the Pitt Graphire pencils!!

I’ve only just started this drawing, and I’m amazed at the HB pencil, how light it will go, for example not being brave I did do a partial grid for the cottages, and what was fantastic because I did it really lightly, it lifted without any trouble at all just using my kneaded eraser not damaging the paper, the same for the tiny mistakes I made lol. I’m really looking forward to using them all for the rest of the drawing and using them for another drawing I’m running in the background - Flatford mill, especially when I do the horse and tree trunks. Thankyou for helping g me to build up my not inconsiderable art supplies, but these I think will be well used along with my beloved FC 9000’s which have been my favourites

I’m just getting into hyper-realism drawing and found these and really found these mat pencils a definite plus for portraits. They’re easy to use and are great for the softer details of the face and skin❤ ‘

These pencils look fantasic and i definately think the "Matt" claim is absolutely correct if you're using these pencils in multiple ways. For the darkest tones, i reccomend extracting the lead from a 14b, finely grinding it and then using cotton balls to pick up the graphite and lay it down on the paper. This will get a super dark colour saturation covering large areas very quickly without damaging the tooth of the paper thus keeping the finish shine and glare free. For finer details, i would use a fine artist brush and some orange solvent or odourless mineral spirits and mix it with a small amount of the graphite powder and actually paint finer details that are very very dark. As you mentioned, super light tones willl be achievable with the harder graphite or mechanical pencils. And the medium tones of the matt pencils look matt and glare free anyway. These methods along with drawing with the pencil will yield a truly matt result and achieve darker tones than you would otherwise achieve by only pressing firm with the pencil! :)

Thanks but brush..? Hmmm i m a drawer bro..orange solvent, mineral spirits , paint with brush.. i mean why would use those while there are watercolors or guaj there and is it a pencil drawing still? (dont misunderstand me, just these materials and brush is so different for me, i dont know them)

I purchased this set following your last video as I have a few graphite commissions to do. They definitely tick all the boxes regarding reduced shine and tonal values. I usually use the FC TK9400 clutch pencils and I'm with you 100% that FC should introduce 'leads' for mechanical pencils. For me they were a bit of a learning curve. Whilst they do blend satisfactorily, they don't seem to blend as well as a regular graphite pencil. In fact my paper stump is still spotlessly clean apart from the very tip. I've been using them to draw a black Cocker Spaniel so my 14B has been well used. I've tried to buy open stock of the 14B and I only found one supplier that has any in stock. So they're obviously very popular. As you say, they don't erase quite as well as regular graphite, or as cleanly/sharply. I found this an issue when trying to pull out highlight's in the dog's curls. It just means I will have to adopt a different process in the future. I'm glad your review basically echoes my own views of these pencils, especially as it appears you are quite light handed and I'm terribly heavy handed. Anyway, enough. I love your channel, your work and your fabulous unbiased reviews.

Thank you for the video review of the Faber Castel Pitt Graphite Matt Pencil. I also watched your earlier video on them. I have only started drawing this year and have struggled to get dark values in my graphite drawings. I have ordered some of these pencils from Jacksons Art Supplies in London (I am in New Zealand) - apparently they have arrived in NZ, but not here yet!!! Can't wait to use them. Really enjoy your videos. :)

Thank you. I am going to pick these up. As a side note this is an absolutely beautiful picture in graphite. The past few days i have been attached to the 12 pitt monochrome set. I bet your picture would look wonderful in those sepia tones. I cant afford your patreon in my budget at the moment but i really wish i could draw with you all. I will try to fit you in soon.

Really good quality overall. These and the Staedtler Mars Lumograph, are ,y favorite for drawing. As he said, Faber Castell should release the Pitt Graphite for the mechanical pencil leads, or at least for 2mm and 5,6mm Lead holders leads!!

I haven’t tried these pencils yet! I can’t wait to get my hands on them. Loved your review and agree on separating the 3 types of carbon sets. graphite, carbon, charcoal way easier to describe that way. I don’t care for charcoal or carbon I tend to stick to graphite though I also use Mars lumigraph

Pitt Graphite is the closest thing to Staedtler Mars Lumograph pencils, than any other Faber Castell pencil. Both are my favorite for drawing. It's jsut that you have to get used to the Pitt Graphite, they are not as fast as Lumographs are, but I still like them very much!!

Such a thorough and insightful review! Since you said that this piece was exclusively done in the "Matts" except for some fine branch tips, I'm wondering if that includes the initial powdered-graphite background?
@predragdjokic37613 жыл бұрын
Smoothie how do you compare 14B graphite Matt with 8b mars lumograph black in the richness of the tone.I know it's carbon vs graphite but still in your video 14B pencil looks extremly dark for something that has a matt finish .Also one more question would you like to have 14B 0.5mm mechanical pencil leads from faber castell in the future.Will 14b in 0.5 be a good option for having a little more detail and not having to sharpen the pencil non stop????
@TucsonBillD3 жыл бұрын
I suspect that Faber-Castell modified the clay in the leads in these pencils to make the leads much softer than conventional graphite pencils, which may explain the improved shading properties of these pencils. Frankly, I think that these pencils are the best things to come along since the invention of the clay-graphite ceramic lead. Also, if anybody tells you that all these leads are all carbon, remind them that diamonds are all carbon.
@smoothie77drawingpainting3 жыл бұрын
You might be right Bill, I agree about these being the best pencils to come along since...

The problem with making mechanical pencil refills from very soft grade graphite is that they are much thinner and break when you as much as breathe on them.
@smoothie77drawingpainting3 жыл бұрын
That's very true, but I'm sure Faber Castell could come up with something, even if the leads could only be use in a Pentel Orenz, they wouldn't break, maybe FC could make their own version of the orenz to be used with the softer leads, just a thought...
