Fun fact: I have a buddy in this movie. He has black hair and is one of the ravagers falling in slow motion in the background as they escape the Ravager ship. He is also one of the guys who was getting tossed around by Rocket's weird little anti-gravity grenades in the woods. Basically, he spent like a week falling into stunt pads and on a big trampoline just falling around. If you spot him, he isn't acting at all. There is a genuine mixture of fear and joy on his face because he's falling for real. I'm typing this before watching so if I spot him i'll timestamp it for you guys. edit: 18:27 he's cut out of this edit because she was commenting on the dude getting impaled, but in this frame you can see his head and arm coming into view from the top left. More like his daughter. Drax's comic backstory is a little different from the MCU one, but in both he has a daughter killed by Thanos. Except that in the comics his daughter survives, but Drax doesn't know this. She was found by Thanos' father (not sure how that works since Thanos is an Eternal) and brought to Titan to be raised by monks. She eventually becomes the hero Moondragon who has some similarities with the MCU version of Mantis. Both characters were candidates to be something called "The Celestial Madonna" but it was Mantis who eventually bore the "Celestial Messiah" with none-other than Swordsman. (Jack, from Hawkeye!)(Well, actually his animated corpse.)

@@tarmaque The Eternals on Earth had members leave the planet after their own conflicts. When Zuras became Prime Eternal, Alars decided to keep the peace and left to found the Eternals colony of Titan where previous Eternals had made a foothold after their ship landed en route back to Earth. Alars found the last survivor Sui-San, and began repopulating the planet. The sons of Alars and Sui-San include Eros and Thanos. Alars had created a stable population and had been known for millenia as Mentor. Thanos grew into a marauder. On a visit to Earth, he did not want his presence known and blasted a station wagon on the desert highway. The Douglas family [father, mother, daughter] were his callous victims. Alars decided it was the final straw as he had followed Thanos to Earth once he arrived in the solar system and was witness to the tragedy. Alars called on his father (who had become one with the cosmos) and took the spirit of Arthur Douglas as it vacated his body and merged it with the body of Drax the Destroyer formed from the Earth. The mother had been slain instantly, and the daughter was injured but alive. Alars took her to the Titan colony and healed her and had her trained by the Priests of Pama. She chose her name as Moondragon. Drax had been given a mighty form that was driven by one objective to kill Thanos, getting more powerful as he got physically closer to his target. Moondragon studied ways to create superpowered allies to marshal an army against Thanos. Many of her test subjects became minor villains on Earth instead. She became a telepath, martial artist, and telekinetic.

"How's he surviving that?" He's Drax the Destroyer. Granted, the MCU toned him down immensely and made him more comedic, but in the comics he's literally a chosen champion of one of the Eternals. He was created solely to fight Thanos but has also been shown to be able to give Captain Marvel and Adam Warlock a run for their money. That was about the only thing I disliked in the first Guardians movie, how neutered they made Drax when he went up against Ronan. But the MCU is just one possible variation of the multiverse, so I don't hold it against the franchise, and not having used Bautista's comedic talents would have been an even bigger loss. While I straight love the Avengers films, the Guardians are still my favorite 'team' movies. It has a feel, almost as deep as the Firefly crew did way back when, that's just not there in the Avenger flicks. They're all great movies, and something 14 year old me never thought he would see in his lifetime, but Guardians just hits different.

The reason Mantis wanted to confess Ego's wrongdoings to Drax was because she understood how parents are supposed to feel when losing their child when she touched Drax . Ego's sadness was not because he misses his children or sadness that they died, the thing that keeps him up at night is having his dream being out of reach. The pond scene has always been one of my favourites in the MCU, guess I'm in the minority on that one.

Love the Guardians movies. The whole MCU is a huge, fun spectacle show, but they are special even in all this. :) It's the way the writers managed to combine all the fun stuff with moments that *really* get you in the heart. Like when in part one Rocket is drunk and gets mad. That's an actually dramatic and well delivered monologue he has there, about being experimented on and what that did to him. It's all about friendship, getting along with each other and oneself as the main, core theme, and it's done well. Also, one of my favourite movie tropes is "in-voluntary unlikely heroes" (when done right). Like Han Solo. The one prisoner in "The Dark Knight" who gets the bomb key for the other ship and throws it overboars. The kids in "Attack the Block" (*great* movie!)... And the Guardians are one of the best examples for that trope I've ever seen. Also they come with the bonus trope of "people who hate each other but are forced to work together and end up as friends". Good stuff. :D

Hey, Vicky! Slapstick and sentiment are what this franchise is about! Much like Vol. 1, "Guardians Vol. 2" was an acquired taste for me since the characters differ so radically from the '90s Valentino era and lack the nuance of the '00s Abnett/Lanning era. I take science fiction very seriously. Its deeper themes and allegorical references resonate deeply with me making it a challenge to immerse myself in these goofy antics. The plot centers on the mystery of Quill's parentage revealing that he is half-Celestial whereas he is half-Spartoi in the comics, a prince of one of Marvel's staple interstellar civilizations. In spite of changes such as that, these movies, much like the team, prevail against all odds delivering endings that pack an emotional wallop! James Gunn earns my admiration each time for pushing the boundaries, diving deep and bringing impossible characters like Ego to vivid life! It takes a wildly creative sensibility and a deep affection for this mythology to get this many disparate parts to mesh properly and Gunn has both in spades. I cannot wait to see what he does with that tease for Adam Warlock. The production has an incredibly varied aesthetic that is a feast for the eyes including the golden realm of the Sovereign, the neon-lit tundra of Contraxia, the misty forested world of Berhert, and the lush splendor of Planet Ego. Traditionally a Thor villain, Ego the Living Planet is difficult to comprehend and challenging to render so I give Gunn tremendous credit for reducing him to a relatable stature while retaining his planet-with-a-face appearance. He does get an upgrade to Celestial status but he is his own entity in the comics. The Celestials are titanic armored space gods with Knowhere station being one of their severed heads! Despite varying from their comic counterparts, the returning cast is as game as before including Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Michael Rooker as Yondu Udonta, Sean Gunn as Kraglin and Karen Gillan as Nebula. Bautista is a stand-out who continues to mine Drax for impressive comedy gold but Rooker steals the show with Yondu's gut-wrenching death scene! Also returning are a high-pitched Vin Diesel as Baby Groot and Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon who remain the only Guardians adapted faithfully except in one regard. According to Gunn, Baby Groot is the offspring of the original Groot rather than a regrown Groot retaining the same memories as in the comics. New characters are Ego, a sentient world that manifests as a man to pollinate other worlds across the universe with his essence! He is played by Kurt Russell as an expansive, avuncular aging hipster who is digitally de-aged to his 1980 likeness in the prologue. Pom Klementieff charmingly plays his empathic pet Mantis who is given a completely different personality than in the comics although she gets to keep her antennae! Elizabeth Debicki plays golden-skinned Ayesha aka Kismet who is transformed into the haughty High Priestess of a golden-skinned species known as the Sovereign. Sylvester Stallone plays Stakar Ogord aka Starhawk whose complex comic backstory is simplified to that of a respected Ravager Captain. He is accompanied by his First Officer, Martinex, a crystalline Plutonian played by Michael Rosenbaum of "Smallville". Both represent a nod to the Valentino Guardians of the '90s. Chris Sullivan plays the traitorous Ravager Taserface whose unfortunate name is actually an authentic deep dive into the comics! Returning in small roles are Laura Haddock as a pre-cancerous Meredith Quill, Gregg Henry as Grandpa Quill, Wyatt Oleff of "It" as young Peter and Seth Green voicing Howard the Duck seen patronizing a Contraxian brothel! In bit parts, Brit character actor Tommy Flanagan plays Tullk, a Ravager loyal to Yondu, Ben Browder of "Farscape" plays a Sovereign Admiral and Elizabeth Ludlow of "The Walking Dead" plays a distressed alien mother fleeing from Ego-matter. Michelle Yeoh as Aleta the Arcturan and Ving Rhames as Charlie-27 the Jovian appear briefly at the Ravager funeral and in one of the end-credit scenes as another Valentino tribute. TRIVIA: 1. James Gunn wore a motion capture suit and served as the model for Baby Groot's opening dance sequence! 2. Vin Diesel had actual scripted lines written for his eyes only so that he could inflect "I am Groot" appropriately. 3. The idea of a self-aware brain like Ego's spontaneously coming into existence is a philosophic thought problem proposed by physicist Ludwig Boltzmann! 4. In between Guardians films, Nebula stunt double, Olivia Jackson, fractured the left half of her face, suffered a traumatic brain injury and had her left am severed in a motorcycle stunt gone wrong! 5. The Zune was an actual Microsoft digital music player developed in 2006 that was discontinued due to its lack of popularity! 6. According to Gunn, this film occurs just months after the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" meaning it is set chronologically before "Avengers: Age of Ultron". EASTER EGGS: 1. When Peter is granted cosmic awareness by Ego, his eyes fill with stars and he says he sees eternity. This is a reference to Eternity, the personification of the universe in Marvel comics, who appears as a silhouetted humanoid whose form is filled with starscapes. 2. The larger replacement head-fin that Yondu wears makes him look more like Centaurians do in the comics. 3. Cosmo the canine cosmonaut and Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster from "Thor: Ragnarok" are seen in the credits themselves frolicking. 4. Among Stakar's reassembled Ravager team in the end-credits is Krugarr, a red, serpentine alien from a species known as Lem. He is a member of the '90s Valentino Guardians and the 31st-century Sorcerer Supreme meaning a successor to Doctor Strange! 5. Seen listening to Stan Lee are Watchers, a race of observers who monitor all that transpire in the universe but never interfere. Uatu is the Watcher assigned to Earth who observes us from his dwelling on the Moon. CAMEOS: 1. Ego momentarily transforms into Peter's imaginary concept of his father, David Hasselhoff, who appears as himself! 2. Miley Cyrus voices the disembodied robot head Mainframe in the Valentino tribute end-credit scene. 3. Stan Lee appears in a spacesuit regaling a group of Watchers about all his cameos when Rocket, Groot, Yondu and Kraglin are jumping through space! END-CREDIT SCENES: 1. Kraglin tests his ability to control the repaired yaka arrow but misfires puncturing Drax whereupon Kraglin sneaks away. 2. Sylvester Stallone's Stakar Ogord addresses a reassembled team of Ravagers from different clans who collectively represent the Jim Valentino Guardians of the '90s. They include Michael Rosenbaum's Martinex the Plutonian, Michelle Yeoh's Aleta the Arcturan, Ving Rhames' Charlie-27 the Jovian, a CGI Krugarr the Lem and Miley Cyrus' Mainframe the A.I. who is a character from the tertiary MC2 universe but is nonetheless included. 3. A frustrated, vengeful High Priestess Ayesha monitors a birthing chamber she claims will produce the next step in the Sovereign's evolution calling it 'Adam'. This is a tease for the introduction of Adam Warlock! 4. Quill scolds a now-teen Groot to clean his vine-littered room to which he replies with obnoxious, disrespectful iterations of "I am Groot"! 5. Tired of Stan Lee's prattling, the Watchers wander away leaving the old boy stranded in his spacesuit on the desolate planet. The next chronological stop in the MCU are Episodes 11-19 of Season 2 of "Agents of SHIELD" but watching the "Guardians' Inferno" music video first is mandatory! It is located on the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" blu-ray, Disney+ as an Extra or on KZbin.

I always get choked up when Yondu held Pete’s face as he died. Like a father caressing his child. Yondu loved him like as if he was his own son.

When I saw this in theatres, it came out one month after my dad passed away. Which naturally means, when I saw this, there were quite a few scenes that hit me right in the heart. Like when he's playing catch with his dad, for one.

This is a great movie, I like it better than the first which is also amazing. Rocket realizing that even though he was being a jerk before and his friends still stayed with him was such a powerful little bit at the end (“…and he stole batteries he didn’t need…”), makes me tear up every time. Also, Nebula’s journey through the rest of the infinity saga is one of my favorite character arcs, there is so much to look forward to what goes on with her in the future. Both she and Gamora are so damaged and traumatized by what Thanos did to them, but their growth out of it is fantastic to see.

This movie has a special place for me. I saw it with my grandma when I visited her in Daytona Beach. We saw 3 movies over 3 days which were Wonderwoman, Pirates of the Caribbean 5 and Guardians 2. She hadn't seen Guardians 1 so she was so confused but still loved it. Also sorry to hear things are not going well and I hope things turn around for you. I was pretty down but things are looking good for me so I know things can get better. Just wanted to say that and that I just found your channel but really enjoy your reactions.

Everything with Yondu hit me... _so_ hard when I first saw this movie. At the time, I was a fairly new stepdad to a wonderful kid (who is still wonderful), who had a pretty awful "first dad." So... it really resonated with me, and Yondu is legit one of my favorite MCU characters. Just realizing that I don't have his Funko Pop for my shelf... I should fix that...

Another fantastic reaction! 😊 Once again, the soundtrack was stellar! Dancing Baby Groot in the be, and just any scene with Baby Groot is an absolute win. I really liked how Gamora and Nebula kinda worked out their differences by the end of the movie. And I liked actor Kurt Russell as Ego. 31:39 This quote gets me every time. Such a beautiful, yet sad scene. Next up in the MCU: "Spider-Man: Homecoming". Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊

I almost passed out laughing in the theater when I saw this the first time on opening night. It was the scene where Rocket, Yondu and Groot are traveling to Ego through the space warps (or whatever they're called) and they're getting all funky and distorted. All I could think about was those gift cards that were really popular years ago with the distorted animals on them with the huge eyes and snoots, and I laughed so hard that I couldn't breathe and actually started to black out before I got it back under control. Still one of my favorite MCU movies and it's one that me and my friends throw quotes from all the time (DIE SPACESHIP!!!)

The Ravenger captains gathered together make up the Original Gaurdians of the Galaxy. Minus Yondu. It’s a reference for the old school comic fans. Now I noticed you did notice Ben Browder’s cameo as the sovereign’s general. So I must now insist you check out the only other sci fi show to that has this much insanity. Farscape. It’s over the top, fun, and has like zero fundamental science. The lead character is probably the only other man in the universe deserving to be called Star Lord.

This is my favorite one out of the two. I remember reading a while back that this is the story the director wanted to tell in the first film, but he knew he needed to set all the characters up first so that there would be more emotion behind it.

Part of the genius of the Marvel movies is that if you took a one or two sentence synopsis of the plot, they'd sound pretty silly. (Sentient planet tries to eat universe. Stopped by talking tree, gun-wielding racoon and friends.) But even at their strangest (and Guardians is that!), the Marvel movies always find the point where you can empathize with the characters. They wedge themselves into that crack. Suddenly, you find yourself getting misty over the death of a foul-mouthed, blue-skinned thief because suddenly you can feel for him! It happens in every movie! Seeing you feeling these moments makes me relive them myself. Thank you! I look forward to seeing you in these! You're doing great!

My father left me and my mom right after I was born, and wanted basically nothing to do with us. Didn’t even pay child support. And I’ve grown up to be who I am, without a dad, without someone to truly bond with (except my mom and her family). Whenever I watch this movie I always think of that… but also, how lucky I am to have people in my life who care.
@greywolf7577 Жыл бұрын
I think if all pregnancies were ended unless both parents wanted to have a child, then any child that did get born would always have two parents that love them and want to support them. That would help so many children have happier lives with two parents instead of just one.

There is a cameo in the movie. The Golden LT standing next to the Sovereign Queen is played by Ben Browder, lead actor from the Farscape series that was on the sci-fi channel. All 4 seasons are on Amazon. It is as good as Firefly. “Fire with the intent to kill”

I lost my sister shortly before this movie came out. When I was a little kid and we had next to nothing, Tea for the Tillerman was one of the few LPs in the house. When she’s come home from school, we would lay on the floor in the dark and listen to the album. When the album cover pops up in the zune and the song starts to play during the funeral, I lost my cool. It took me hours to regain my composure.
