I was wondering if Astrid was referring to herself doing the whole 'drop it - fetch' routine before, or if she was referring to when Hiccup and Toothless yanked her up and dropped her in the tree in the first movie. Astrid was trying to scare Drago into not attacking by thinking he was outmatched...too bad he wasn't scared so it backfired.

I truly love the message that this movie conveys. While most children’s stories would tell you something like “anyone is capable of good” and that anyone’s mind can be changed, this movie took the very bold approach of showing that some men are beyond reasoning, and they will do as they want, no matter what you try.

I personally love that scene. Valka had been living with dragons, thought not by her choice, for twenty years leaving Stoick to raise Hiccup without her, and she fully expects him to be mad at her but he’s not. He’s just relieved and happy to see that the love of his life is alive after all this time and the first words out of his mouth is to tell her she’s as beautiful as the last time they were together.
@marbles3315

I feel for the alpha dragon that Drago uses to fight for him. For context, he stole an alpha dragon egg from Valka (at least that's what's hinted in the series) and abused it as it grew up. It followed Drago because it had no free will, and it ran from Toothless because it's fear of being hurt overpowered Drago's commands. And there's a fan-theory that the egg Drago stole came from the very alpha Valka was taken in by, meaning it was forced to kill it's parent. That one's not confirmed though, but either way, that dragon went through some stuff in this movie.
@samuelvincent557
@samuelvincent557 Жыл бұрын
I think that was why, at the end, the Alpha wasn't fighting back against the group of dragons. He was controlled with fear and pain, not loyalty. The Alpha's duty is to protect others. It never wanted to hurt any of the other smaller dragons, so it stood there and took the attacks, when it could have killed them all with one or two ice blasts. Also, for all it's life, it probably only ever feared Drago, and felt pain from Drago. So when Toothless was able to hurt him and make him afraid, then stole the dragons from him, he stopped fighting because he saw Toothless like he saw Drago. Someone stronger than him.

Stoic reuniting with his wife was the most heart wrenching scene for me, im so glad it ended on a happy note. I expected him to be angry, or bewildered, or stammering over himself, but the reaction we got I wouldn't ever change. Pure infatuation with a mild sense of fear, fear that she's moved on from him, or forgotten him. The singing, hoping/expecting her to call back was an incredibly romantic move for Stoic, which is a big character shift for him, then seeing her not respond initially and watching his soul get crushed forces me to cry everytime.

Flying With Mother has to be the best score in this movie. I love bagpipes, the christmas sort of theme, the use of a triangle and the fact that this scene was almost cancelled because of several scores didn’t work shows the dedication of John Powell that he never gives up for the best animated franchise ever. I'm sorry for your loss. That would make this really hard to watch. My friend had something similar happen with watching Brave after his Mother died. That speech that Hiccup gives about being afraid of becoming like his Father because he wasn't sure he could hits me hard. My Father is my role model for honesty, integrity and respect. If I can become half the man he is, I will consider my life a success.

I absolutely love the contrast of the giant dragon in the first film and the one in this film. The first one lead with fear and made all the dragons bring him food but this one has created a safe place for the dragons and at feeding time he is the one who makes it rain fish so that he can feed all the dragons that follow him.

ETA- if you think this movie was emotional just wait until you watch the 3rd one, deff pack up for the middle and end with at least two boxes of tissues cuz it's gunna have you emotionally up and down in the best way they could have done it in a movie.

Okay so, I remember watching another reactor seeing this scene and he was utterly unimpressed with the stunt Hiccup and Toothless pull off. I remember him clearly saying, "So what they just pull this trick off on the first attempt?" Of course he also got blasted in the comments where they reminded him that 5 YEARS had passed in between films AND that Hiccup literally says "Do you want to try this AGAIN?" Meaning that they've been practicing off screen. lol.

When Astrid says, "It works every time," I think she is referring to when Hiccup and Toothless did that to her in the first movie. Also, the director confirmed that when Gobber said, "You see, this is why I never married. Well...this and one other thing." It's that Gobber is gay.

I know this is like over 3 months old and noone cares anymore BUT the attention to detail in these movies is incredible too. One not so fun fact is the weapon Dago flails around. It's called a bullhook or also an elephant goad and it's a weapon that basically symbolizes animal abuse. It can be used in in an effective and meaningful way, but you know what people are like, especially in let's say India where there's a lot of straight up elephant abuse. Sometimes when the animal is raised this way, just showing it the bullhook and flailing it around is enough to get the animal do what you want, because it's subconsciously associating it with pain and fear which is EXACTLY what you're seeing with Dago's Bewilderbeast.

It bridges the 5 year gap between HTTYD 1 & 2 and is a great show which is the right mixture of adventure, comedy, drama, romance, action, thriller, and mystery. The shows are: Riders of Berk (20 episodes) Defenders of Berk (20 episodes) Race to the Edge (78 episodes)

I love how people don't actually realize how MUCH difference 5 years can make to 14 year olds. lol. If Hiccup was already 20 years old then yes, 5 years won't change him that much. But 14- 19?? A LOT can change. Hell, anything before 20 years old will change greatly in 5 years. Just because it's animated, that doesn't mean they have to follow "The Simpsons" rules where, after 30 years Bart is still 11 years old.

I can't quite remember exactly, but I have reason to believe that the Viking beside Stoic during the Intro Game scene was Snotlout's Father. He had the black hair and thin-ish beard. I've seen THAT Viking on multiple occasions and I think it was only in the show where he actually does or says anything. I want to say that that's where i learned about who he was. But like I said, i'm not certain and he COULD very well just be "Viking #7" lol.

This is my favorite of the HTTYD trilogy. This movie just strengthened my desire to ride a dragon irl. Stoics funeral was a very beautiful scene to watch, the emotions, the acting, and the score were all 🔥🔥💯. A Viking funeral would be awesome to watch if it had that much emotion. It was also cool to see that Hiccup was basically born to be the Dragon Chief, cuz even as a baby he was playing/taming a dragon and then as an adult: he broke through an an alphas control, actually tamed the babys, and even got the respect of an alpha. Dude definitely has the soul of a dragon. Ok that's all, and one last thing, you looked gorgeous in the reaction.

I saw someone comment on another HTTYD reaction video that the villains of these movies are essentially who Hiccup could have become had he made "the other" choice at key moments of his development. In this movie, Hiccup "controls" the dragons through love and acceptance, whereas Drago controls through fear and intimidation. And you'll see the third movie's.

Thank you so much for watching my favorite franchise of all time! It's been a while since I've watched the first movie (because, hey, I'm an Eret, Son Of Eret lover...despite being a lesbian IRL), but the second will always be my favorite, because that's the movie where I (knowingly) cried in the theater for the first time! Also, I've probably pointed this out at every single HTTYD2 reaction I've watched, buuuuut Eret, Son Of Eret shot an arrow with the others, respecting a chief that was never his! I love that detail! Also, side note: I'm going to attempt to watch this while I work on posting my (several) HTTYD fanfics to Wattpad (under QuietBeretWriter94...my OC's and Eret's ship name is Beret)! Anyway...Stoick's Ship never fails to make me cry, and Ellie Amaya made a cover of it called "Valka's Lament"...they have such an amazing voice, and I love John Powell's score work on the trilogy, as well as the animation by the crew, and the voice work by the cast!

I saw this with my nephews in a near empty theater a few weeks after it released, in that we were the only three people in the auditorium. It was a great time had by all.

Theres a pretty popular theory that drago's bewilderbeast was actually abused and too scared to go against dragos commands,with drago using a bullhook which was used to "train" elephants through abuse making this theory make more sense

It was implied in the second movie and later confirmed to be a fact by director Dean DeBlois. Gobber is gay hence the statement from him about Marriage and "one other thing".

I really live this movie, I love the entire franchise so much, I’ve been obsessed with it for over a decade. The second movie is extremely touching and never fails to make me cry. The fact that Valka and Stoick finally get reunited after 20 years of being apart, not knowing if the other one is still alive, and then Stoivk gets killed, saving his son from being murdered by his best friend. At Stoicks funeral, when Gobber says “May the Valkyries welcome you, and lead you through Odins great battlefield. Mag they sing your name with love and fury, so that we might hear it coming from the depths of Valhalla, so that we know that you’ve taken your rightful place at the tables of kings. For a great man has fallen. A warrior, A chieften, A father, A friend.” And then Hiccup continues by saying “I’m sorry dad. I’m not the chief that you wanted me to be, and I’m not the peacekeeper I thought I was. I don’t know” wich Valka follows by saying “ You came wary into this world. You were such a wee thing, so frail, so fragile. I feared you would’ve make it. But your father never doubted. He always said you’d become the strongest of them all, and he was right. You have the heart of a chief and the soul of a dragon. Only you can bring our worlds together, that is who you are, son” wich Hiccup then follows by saying “I was so afraid of becoming by dad, mostly because I thought I never could. How do you become someone that, great, that brave, that selfless. I guess, you can only try. A chief protects his own. We’re going back.” Never. Ever. Fails to make me cry.

Family reunion and then a loss of Stoick makes anyone cry lol. Now, Drago's weapon is actually taken from the tool used to train Elephants in India which is the bullhook. That is what is interesting.

12:30 "But people are not capable of change, Hiccup." "I don't believe that." I mean, of _course_ people are capable of change. We've seen it. But let me warn you, the challenge is getting them to a point where they understand that they _need_ to. I speak from experience on this; a lot more experience than one has _any_ business needing. I've dealt, over and over again, with people who _badly needed_ to change but refused to _recognize_ this fact about themselves. Thus, they wouldn't change, no matter what I did or said.

3:17 They’re not engaged. They’ve just been dating for a long time at this point. I think Stoic just said that because he’s HOPEFUL that they’ll get married someday (definitely shows how much he’s developed as a character since the first movie, being so supportive of Hiccup and all.)
