The lead guitarist, Allen Collins, nearly lost an arm in the plane crash. His dad convinced the doctors to not amputate it. The very first line of this song was from a fight Collins had with his wife, when she asked him that question. Unfortunately, she died in childbirth a few years after the crash. Collins started heavily using drugs and alcohol, resulting in a car crash a few years after her death. It left him paralyzed. He died about 10 years later of pneumonia. As bad as the plane crash was, surviving was almost as bad. Allen Collins was a monster on guitar, yet routinely gets overlooked.

A lot of people say to watch the live in Oakland version, but I think the live version at Knebworth in England in 1976 is better. IMHO. Oh and the guy making the beautiful slide guitar sounds the first half of the song is Gary Rossington.

The grand masters of Southern Rock, or, as I like to call this band, along with all my other favorites from the later 20th century, GUITAR ROCK. I've been a fan since I first heard them at 15 back in 1976. In my world...if it aint' got bitchin' electric guitar work goin ' on, I just don't go there. Guitar rock speaks to me because the electric guitar lends itself so incredibly to producing an endless variety of human emotions like few other instruments have or can. ROCK ON !

Everyone seems to react to stuff after the 60s-70s. I've played and produced music (ooooooooooooooooooooold) for a good 20-30 years. There's amazig things you can find form over 100 years ago. Elgar's Nimrod (originally meant clever hunter). Wagner's (Nazi scum who inspired Hitler) Ring Cycle. Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountian. When you consider that there were no electronic Instrumentation and all they had were orchestal instruments, they're pretty fucking amazing!
