Of his own admission, Draymond is at his best when there is a belief that they have a shot at being a winner. Things do not go well when the team is not good. So much of his skill is a function of mental engagement. He loses interest when the team is not in the hunt. Its been two seasons since they had a real squad and shot. It good to see him accepting the lower minutes so he doesn't wear down so far and tweaked offense that doesn't always run through him. But in some of his podcasts he was mentioning the need to change how they play so, I think he knows what they need to win. And defensively he is every bit the superstar Curry is offensively but, most people do not pay attention to defense. They have some defensive trap schemes they are running with him, Payton II and Podzemski this year that are elite.

that's probably why the Warriors never really invest in a 7 footer, or height. In the modern nba, lateral quickness is more desirable and effective on defense than shot blocking. You want to cut off the driving lane and cause mid range jumpers rather than trying to block shots at the rim.

And the lack of the real big, real center has cost them numerous times, especially in recent seasons Almost all their championship runs they have real bigs... JaVale McGee/Festus Ezeli, and a few others I am forgetting It matters, as shown here Dray can hold his own at the 5 but can struggle with severe size mismatches and get into foul trouble. Dray's versatility can offset a lot of that but even so. Also usually they have had other versatile big wings + active smalls to help too. GP2, Wiggins, Iguodala back then, etc And at the end of the day most things come back to the rim, the paint even now in this 3-ball era is probably still the most important thing to protect. Why do you think Gobert has 4 DHPOYs (besides regular szn performance) or Wemby about to rule this generation? come on now

The thing is with Draymond, the triple single narrative, most of the stuff he does isnt on the stuff sheet. My argument was that Klay might have been one of the if not THE best 3&D player but his skillset can be replicated to an acceptable level. While Hield isn't close to being as good a defender, he definitely is as good a shooter. Whereas Draymond's skillset is almost impossible to replicate. Maybe Bam is the closest player I can think of.
