growlingbehemoth Wow you are ignorant for that comment in 2017. You have no clue how Brutal and Vicious new Supercar BEVs have become. They are not silent and most have a vicious sound because gears going past 10,000RPM. NIO EP9 current record holder for 2 seater on 20.832km lap of Nürburgring has Heartrate & Biometrics monitor for the passenger to record the ferocious effect. You have no clue what you are talking about instead your head is in the gutter "electrical things mom keeps in the drawer by the bed"

When I originally heard about this record being set, I remembered the late Ed Rannberg, who built 'Lightning Rod', the first EV to set an FIA record of over 200mph at 215.3mph in 1997. I was involved in EV circuit racing back then and spend some time talking to Ed. Lots of great memories from those days.

Hi Kelli, I wish I had someone who 'did the sound editing' fo me. Sadly it's just me making a mess of it. I thought I had solved the sound issues, clearly not, I did check with headphones before I finished and I didn't notice, but then I'm old and probably a bit deaf :-) I'll try harder.

An old friend from school also drives for Barwell. In fact you can see him standing around behind the car toward the end (Jonny Cocker). Robert, I know this won't be fully in keeping with the channel, but it would be cool for you to check out Nissans ZEOD car that will do Le Mans this year out of Garage 56 (experimental). Now while it has a 1.5 3 cylinder petrol engine, they are going to attempt to achieve at least 1 lap of La Sarthe purely on electricity per fuel tank. If they can do that for the full 24 hours it will be impressive!

Interesting how so many miss the pause of shifts in a transmission. Yet another bit of re-education of the masses that newer technology must over-come.
@Grumpy_old_Boot
@Grumpy_old_Boot 10 жыл бұрын
Many people don't so much miss the part of shifting, as they miss the part of being involved in making the car go faster. The less there is for the driver to do, the less "heroic" he is, and the less satisfied he is. Humans are emotional creatures, to a very high degree.

@Grumpy_old_Boot 10 жыл бұрын
Will Davis Well now, that's an interesting thought. I have tried a bunch of cars by now, as my neighbour own a car dealership, so he lets me try things out if I ask nicely. And while EV cars do have good acceleration, you often don't feel it as much as a petrol car since there are no gear shifts, it's just one smooth acceleration. I do like it, don't get me wrong, but I don't find it particularly engaging. The most fun I've had in a car in the last few years, was in the Morgan 3-wheeler - It's hilarious! :D And also the Caterham Seven 160 springs to mind, and that only had a tiny 660cc engine producing 80hp. But it's fun! I have driven a few real monsters, I have even driven a few amateur dragsters, and yes, EV's are fast and all, but they are generally somewhat .... wallpaperpaste-ish with beige on top. That'll change though, as manufacturors get the hang of them and experiment some more, but right now the driving experience in most EV's are frankly a bit lackluster. They are very good at being reasonable, but at the same time they are also not very good at being un-reasonable. You could say that Lord Drayson is working on changing that. Let's hope he succeed. :)

This is a great suggestion if this electric car added solar panels surrounding the whole race car, not only for charging batteries, but also running the car much longer on sunny days until dusk.
@Muskar2
@Muskar2 8 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Barton It wouldn't go that much further. Especially not a racing car. The energy consumption in a car is much greater than solar panels in such a small surface area could produce. I'm no physicist, and have neither looked up the numbers in a long time - but I believe it's insignificant in orders of magnitude. It's also very inefficient because the panels are rarely facing the optimal direction. And much more expensive (which would although matter less in a supercar of course).
@kevinbarton9052
@kevinbarton9052 8 жыл бұрын
Well I tried my best if bigger improvements on longer lasting rechargeable batteries built for speed, Especially solar panels charging the batteries quicker is the kind of big improvement.
@HexaSquirrel
@HexaSquirrel 8 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Barton The weight disadvantage of adding solar panels compared to 2016 levels of regenerative braking simply out weight any small advantage solar panels would. Road cars maybe might get more of an advantage out of them though.

Why support it when alternatives exist that work just as effectively, if only these short-sighted firm execs realised this fact? Plus we're still not certain if fracking is responsible for local 'mini earthquakes' causing property damage, etc.

Why can battery cars not simply swap battery packs and carry on as long as you want? That way smaller, lighter battery packs and also no limit to how far you can go. The car would pull in drop its battery pack pick up another fully charged battery pack and away it goes. Exiting pit stops and the tech would then develop to do the same on road cars.

Dan Lingle That's a terrible idea, that has been tried by the now defunct "Better Place". You are looking at a massive, expensive infrastructure being built up, and on the manufacturer's side a LACK of possible innovation in chassis design and battery forms and chemistries, as none of them can just run with a "better concept" by themselves.

Joseph Stott YES the P100D motors are designed to go upto 20,000RPM but safety limited to 16,000. Meaning its gear ratio would allow it to go past 200+. Problem is such high speed introduces Aerodynamic and Handling problems. All current Tesla cars do not have the Aerodynamics to safely handle 200mph. FYI Lucid Air prototype achieve 217mph at Ohio Transportation Research Centre.

Range is more than enough for most people: A 380 mile Volt would last 10 days for the average suburbian and 7 for rural folks; the average daily drive total for urban-based cars was just 36.5 miles, while rural-based cars drove an average of 48.6 miles. Weight is offset by lighter materials: a Tesla Roadster weighs 1220.2 kg. 2000 USD per year for battery replacement every 5 years may be a lot, though.
