I’m rebuild a 1982 Honda ATC200. Same motor. Thanks for the Video. It Helped to rebuild my grandfather’s ATC for my Dad. I’ve done a few 3Wheelers. Down here in Southern LoUiSiAna, in the swamp. You just can’t kill a Honda ATC. She was still running but decided it was time to break her down. Very helpful video, thanks again.

Someone told me to loosen the jam nut, push down on the tensioner, then re-tighten the jam nut while still holding the tensioner down. I did this and couldn't figure out why it was louder than before I started 😂 ended up on your video and saw how to do it the right way and now she is quiet as a church mouse, thank you!

It sounds like your choke plate screw is hung under one of the valves, if so then most likely the noise your hearing is the piston hitting a valve which means it is bent. I have seen this very thing happen, but it can be fixed.

@burdman1954 No problem bro. The stator coil (under the flywheel) is known to go bad on that series of atv. Where the wires come out of the motor near the fr. sprocket cover, unplug the black wire with a red stripe, hook it to a volt meter (ac volts) and spin th' motor. 12-15 volts ac is normal. The oem stator is expensive, but you can get an aftermarket one for around $25.00 Let me know what you find. Ignition coils and cdi units typically dont go bad. Hope this helps!

You are good .... so easy to understand..... With you direction my 1984 Big Red is like new again... I have a question I am so frustrated with my 1986 honda elite 150. I bought a new top end kit which consisted of piston, rings, barrell, head and valves... The cam sprocket timing chain and rockers I reused.... I cannot figure it out ....... When I have the plug out , I get suction and compression.... When I put the head cap which contains the rockers I get no compression..... I am not a beginner mechanic but this has me feeling like one ..Please help......

ATC200 1983, was unused for 10 years, changed carb, oil, spark plug,cleaned the tank the best I could, the way it's made there is hardly no place to put a gas filter, started after two cranks, but choked up after a few seconds. Friend played with carb pilot air, now cannot even start. The old spark plug was black as hell.. can you direct me on what to do next? Many thanks ( my arm hurts from the crank tries.. :D )

What happens if the chain jumps a tooth and snaps while the motor is running? Will it mess up the valves and damage the engine? My ATC needs adjustment and I'm genuinely concerned because I don't want to screw it up.
@ahmaddarwish14867 жыл бұрын
didn't think I would find you here! if the chain jumps and breaks, it may hurt the valves, but unlikely...if the chain is loose you should be more worried about wearing your chain and case down.
@balabay777 жыл бұрын
PiggyPin Thanks for the info. My atc is making a clunking noise at low rpm. I think it's the loose timing chain or something. I haven't messed with it yet but eventually I'll get around to it. Cheers mate

how do you tell if the ignition coil is bad? my 1984 atc200s the spark seems to be weak also the spark plugs keep fouling out on me every 30 minutes. then i clean or replace the spark plug's i even used a non fouler spark plug it does not work. i think the coil is so weak when the spark plug gets enough carbon from normal combustion that it can not send the right amount of spark to the plug. can you help me? is it hard to replace the ignition coil? also is there a high performance ignition coil that msd or accell makes for the 1984 atc200s?
