Is it possible and normal for a patient to gain a bigger waistline after a tummy tuck? And if so is it just temporary swelling and will become smaller down the months?

It depends on which technique your surgeon will use. If the tummy tuck is done without liposuction then there is a possibility of this, if liposuction has been used then there will be swelling which can seem like this but will reduce in the coming months.
