Thank you for sharing! My 15-year-old has struggled with acne and would get awful hormonal breakouts once a month. I had her watch this video with me and had her start eating keto (her dad and I have been doing keto for a while but she would eat horribly whenever she wasn't in our presence...). After a month of complaining and grumbling and declaring that she couldn't eat anything (and sneaking in junk a couple of times a week), it was time for her monthly hormonal breakout - and it never happened! She also noticed that her constant forehead whiteheads had diminished! Needless to say, she rolled her eyes at me when I declared that keto really DID work, but she also smiled and agreed.

Walker has his Mama's good looks! ;) I also have a 10th grade son, Grant, who struggles with acne (as well as ADHD.) He's done keto off and on for the past 3 years, because that's how I cook and the food I provide at home. But outside of home, he's sometimes keto, sometimes not. School is challenging. He usually skips breakfast and sometimes lunch. We've recently done gut testing (GI map), and discovered he had C Diff (toxin A and B), which he was totally asymptomatic for, but which was definitely causing inflammation. We've treated that holistically, as well as leaky gut, and removed many foods he was sensitive to (wheat, dairy, beef, eggs) for awhile. His skin got much better, but still not completely clear. We've been debating the dreaded Accutane, because it did work for his older brother, and we want to avoid more scaring. I'll have him watch this video and hopefully he'll agree to trying strict keto, with adding your ketone supplement (which coincidentally I just received a few days ago!) Grant has stated many times that he feels better when on keto, but for all the obvious reasons, it's hard for him to continually stick with. (Also, casein & whey might still be an issue.) Hopefully the exogenous ketones will make the difference. Thank you doc and Walker for this helpful video! It gives us a direction to move in next.

You might have leaky gut and some food sensitivities that are contributing. Life Extension Foundation has a food sensitivity test that's on sale (April only) for around $150. Also screens for yeast overgrowth. I've used it many times over the years and found it to be helpful. Or you can try an elimination diet (like AIP protocol) to figure out which foods are problematic. After removing the troublesome foods for 2-6 months, and treating leaky gut, you can often slowly add back in the foods to your diet without problem.

Three of our four kids are trying the Keto diet, of their own volition. I must have done a good job hyping it .. Our oldest is 12 and is developing some acne, so I suggested it (before seeing this video actually), so he's been on the diet for more than a week. We haven't measured their ketones yet, but I do use a meter for myself (first to start it) and my dear wife (who actually had a higher ketone measurement this morning than me!). I'm trying to do essentially 'keto on steroids' due to some epilepsy and the underlying cause which is likely either autoimmune or cancer... Your video inspired me to order some exo-BHB and try that out to keep my ketone levels high. (BTW, I finished hearing the audiobook copy of Anyway-you-can and I really appreciated it.)

I can see the biohacking benefits of taking exogenous keytones as a shorter term keytone-boosting practice for healing purposes, but are there any negative outcomes from taking exogenous keytones long term? Over time, could your natural endogenous keytone production system decline due to the body adapting to rely more on the exogenous keytones? Could this long-term use create a form of "keytone production resistance" where the body naturally adapts to the presence of higher amounts of keytones and thus generates a homeostatic response which results in lower amounts of endogenous keytone bodies being produced? Enjoy the videos you produce, keep up the great work. Cheers

The good/ better/ best part of the information shows you part of the answer. It is best to make them. ... but I could not have started the process in Walker. He was STUCK. There are no longterm problems reported. BUT I find that once their brain gets used the ketones ... they want less sweets. That was the cool transformation for me to witness.
@-myatlanticblue-36365 жыл бұрын
@@DoctorBoz So, maybe the exogenous keytones open pathways to a more natural affinity toward going and maintaining a ketogenic dietary lifestyle. Thank you for the reply. Cheers!
@billleach33965 жыл бұрын
I suggest that it is highly likely that long term exogenous ketone supplementation would ultimately suppress endogenous production since it is very likely that the body establishes "a control setpoint" for the amount of ketones in the blood. I doubt that there is any actual harm done by that condition however (unlike is known to occur for some long term hormonal supplementation). The difference is probably because the mitochondria that can produce ketones apear not loose that ability no matter how long the have not been doing that task. They may (and likely will) a bit sluggish to restart but restart they do.

@billleach33965 жыл бұрын
As a matter of biology, mitochondria that can use ketone as opposed to glucose will use ketones if they are available. I would suspect that high reading such as above 2.0 will show ketones in the urine. However, the therapeutic effect is that an abundance of ketones in the blood encourages mitochondria (that can use) to use ketones. While originally Dr Boz objected to using exogenous ketones she now supports their use because they help start (or-restart) ketone use by the body.
@rhondawilliams94495 жыл бұрын

@billleach33965 жыл бұрын
@@Susiesam1950 Remember, if you are keto-adapted and have been for awhile then 1.2 is a great ratio. Getting numbers like 5 and above essentially means that you are either over supplementing with exogenous ketones (which is appropriate under the right conditions), or you are not yet keto-adapted. When you are fully keto-adapted, ketone regulation will be similar to the regulation of all other homeostatic processes. That is the body will tend to produce the amount of ketones actually needed. The 'setpoint' seems to run around 1 plus or minus a few tenths. When you're seeing blood glucose levels in the 50's and lower, and your ketones are 0.6 to around 1.2 you are likely really functioning great.

@@Susiesam1950 I have been as low on the ratio as 17! I was stunned! I seem to be experiencing a period of difficulty right now though. It seems that my greatest success at both weight loss (which at the time was not a consideration) and health (which was the concern), I was really NOT eating to the keto guidelines. I was generally eating about 50-60% fat calories, roughly 30-40% protein, and 10-20% carbs. At that time I had a glucose meter but not a ketone meter so I have no idea of what ratios I was running. Loosing about 70 lb in roughly 5-6 months was a shocker since I had not been paying any attention to my weight. It was when I realized that I ran out of belt holes that I checked my weight. After getting a ketone meter (I'm using the KetoMojo meter), I have observed that at times eating too much protein does raise blood sugar and of course increase the ratio.
