Keto saved my skin. Also cured my insomnia, adrenal and hormone issues...I don’t know if it’s the solution for everyone but it was for me. I did full keto for a year and now I do a carb day once a week which is the sweet spot for maintaining energy and health for me.

I suffered from acne for years (well into my thirties). Dermatologist just prescribed me cleansers and meds that were hard on my insides. It wasn't until a met a Naturopath who told me to cut down on carbs (it turns out gluten makes me break out like crazy lol). After cutting out gluten and lowering my carb, dairy and sugar intake, my acne vanished.

I’ve been doing keto (switched to low carb) for 3 years now and it has helped my acne immensely! I had horrible acne on my cheeks and chin/neck area. Now I only get a few small ones during my cycle. I’ve learned a lot about nutrition during these 3 years and don’t feel low carb is restrictive at all. Other benefits was reducing my hereditary high BP 🙌🙌 and have so much energy! For myself, low carb has been amazing!

I ate keto for about a year and a half, and I suffered from horrible acne all over my face, back and chest for the entire duration. I felt lethargic and had digestion issues as well. When I decided to try out a plant-based diet, my skin completely cleared up within a couple of months and so did my other issues. I've been vegan for nearly a decade now and have never felt better.

Dr.Dray, thank you so much for your videos. You are an inspiration . I had a lot of trouble with my sensitive skin , rosacea, irritation and inflammation from most of the face oils. I tried almost all brands from Sephora, thousands of dollars ... everything that helped with my wrinkles (I’m 42) irritated my skin or made my eye watery, everything that was good for my skin and eyes didn’t helped me with my wrinkles. I started to watch your videos and I started to look a lot at the ingredients list. Now my skin is looking so good, no redness. I’m washing my face with Kiehl’s ultra facial cleanser, I use kiehl’s vitamin serum with hyaluronic acid ( no base on oil or water) , ultra facial moisturizer. In the night time I’m using retinol 0,25 % from first aid beauty and their moisturizer repair cream. No more red cheeks, less wrinkles, no watery eyes, no oil skin... sometimes I’m using La Roche Possy toleriane cream for sensitive skin /babe, no parfumé . It contains niacinamide, ceramide and squalane. My skin looks superb😊Thank you! God bless you!

I'm glad that you mentioned the drawbacks in starting keto, they are real but can be prevented if you have a solid plan. I was off of refined sugars for a full year before I started keto and I think that helped prevent a lot of the issues that people face when going keto straight away. Focusing on electrolytes and vitamins along with increased hydration helps alleviate those "keto flu" symptoms, be sure to do the research into this eating plan and have your doctor monitor your progress. I started just as I was entering perimenopause, so I'm unsure if my skin looks younger because of keto or because I started following your skin care advice around the same time, lol!

I’m about to dive into keto (plus intermittent fasting) for multiple reasons and boy I cannot wait! Weight loss is the by product and not the reason I’m doing this though it’s not a bad effect that will happen. I have severe issues with inflammation (skin, joints, muscles, sinuses…) and I’m also hoping I’ll get relief from my microbiome issues and severe migraines. I’ve tried everything including a slue of medications and nothing has worked. It’s been like putting bandaids on a wound that needs far more treatment. For the past 2 months I learned everything I can about the diet and this is like a Hail Mary for me and I’m praying it’ll work. If it doesn’t I don’t know what else to do but tons and tons of super positive raves about the amazing changes people have gone thru give me lots of hope! I also have guardianship of my youngest sister who has a severe form of epilepsy that medication does an ok job at helping but not good enough. She’s going to try the diet with me, with docs consent, and we’re hoping it’ll help her out too since it’s been shown to. Thanks for this video Dr. Dray!!! ❤️

You did great in explaining that. I started very slow (like you said too), 4 years ago. I started with cutting the extra sugar in coffee etc, then looking out for it in foods innkl. carbs (like souces etc), than eating less fruits, but still eating it (berries etc). Than i did interm. fasting. After that it's a lot easier to go on a very low carb diät or keto. I'm going for a max of 50g carbs, so that i can still eat some fruits or different kinds of vegtables. I also drink water with lemon, bec. of the hydration. If you start slow, then you won't have many issues going into ketosis, only mild version of it. When it comes to inflammatory issues. The most important thing that you can do, is to stop using oils like, seedoil, sunflower oil and soya oil. Use butter, olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil.

@jessicah3450
@jessicah3450 3 жыл бұрын
Better to study efficiently than for longer hours. We know you don't retain or recall info well when you're sleep deprived, your brain checks out when you're tired. Even 30 minutes of extra sleep will improve your cognition the next day. Sometimes it's better to put it aside and come back to it in the morning after you've slept. I found audio versions of some of my texts too, so I could multitask a bit. Loved listening to lectures or books while commuting or eating. Some people can power nap, I can't, but it helps some people feel refreshed. You just want to nap about 15-20 minutes, set an alarm, longer than 30 minutes, and you'll go into a deeper stage of sleep that will make you groggy upon waking. Personally, stepping away for a few minutes too, just 5 minutes to take a cool shower, get fresh air, grab a healthy snack- when I returned to my books, I felt refreshed and could think more clearly. If possible, don't study in your bedroom. This can confuse your brain, and make it more difficult for you to fall asleep when you want to. Your brain associates this room with sleep and that will be on your mind instead of studying. I utilized my library as much as possible and was there until it closed every day. My brain associated the library with studying, and I could focus so much better there. You also want to develop good sleep hygiene, so you can get the most restful sleep possible; a short routine you do every night that makes your brain ready for sleep. You want to get the most from your time studying and your time sleeping, it takes planning and discipline.

Love the keto diet! Down 26 pounds so far 🙌 Many people think the keto diet is just pigging out on bacon, cheese, butter, and mayo but really you're able to enjoy most veggies, berries, and nuts. I eat way more veggies now than before keto and I cut out most refined sugar and carbs. I also love when on this diet I feel full for hours without the nagging temptation to snack constantly, definitely feel so much more satiated for longer periods. I've also noticed a decrease in body odor and flatulence 🤣 I don't know about any skin benefits yet but I'll gladly welcome them if they come my way 😆

Thank you for the video. Your content really encourages a science based approach to improving one's skin and life in general. I think it's important to recognise how sorely lacking robust research often is in "wellness" space. I know your particular focus is skincare, but I considor that to be a significant dimension regarding one's personal care and I can't thank you enough for your great advice. I was wondering if you might considor doing a video on the potential benefits of fasting and autophagy in regards to skin health. I've attempted to consult the literature myself, but I lack the education to truly understand the terms, theories and results of the studies and derive a proper conclusion beyond "maybe it has benefits and probably won't hurt." I think it would be an interesting topic to delve into.

In 2014 Istarted experiencing neurological symptoms, such as numbness and tingling in my legs. At first, the doctors blamed these issues on my weight. However, after nine months of worsening symptoms, my doctors referred me to a neurologist. Right away, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). In December 2016,I suddenly lost the ability to control my legs during a shopping trip. It was terrifying. I had to call my husband for help getting home. Although I spent some time researching the keto diet, and came across a book on keto diet. After reading it, I decided to give it a try. Before, I always struggled to read long articles or look at spreadsheets. Within three weeks of starting keto, that was gone. And I had a lot more energy. during my first year on keto, I lost 60 pounds.

Been on keto for 5 years. Lost 50 lbs and got off diabetes meds. Got rid of my digestive issues. Lost the belly fat. And my skin has never looked better! Have lots of organic veggies, high-quality proteins, and good fats. Don't miss sugar or starches. Have plenty of veggies with my meals. Have no problem sticking to it.

Hi there Dr. Dray 👋🏽 I was wondering if it was safe to use Differin with the It’s Skin Power 10 Li Effector? You mentioned this product n one of your videos. I’m taking a break from the Differin dark spot correcting serum (as you recommended 😁) but in the meantime I was wondering if it would be okay to use the It’s Skin serum after I apply my Differin gel?

You could try low acid coffee. I couldn’t believe how different it is. It comes decaf and regular and is infused with antioxidants is a plus. It’s Tieman’s and I get it at sprouts. There may be others that’s just the one I tried.

I just got diagnosed with irritant contact dermatitis and the dermatologist prescribed Tacromilus 0.1% ointment. Apparently the Cerave salicylic acid cleanser and cream caused this.... Dr Dray was right y’all the skin on the eyelids is super thin and sensitive. I should have never put that cream all over my face. My eyelids suffered the worse of it red, inflamed, itchy and have a nasty rash 😭

I'm glad you mentioned the pro's, the con's and the unknowns. I've had to study the Keto diet in my psychology undergrad because of its use in treating epilepsy in children and this was well before it became a fad diet. It was often said that we just don't know the long-term effect of this diet. There are some possible detrimental outcomes pointing towards premature dementia as well as cholesterol issues though it's very limited on data; a common plague in nutrition science. Keto diets definitely can be useful when done correctly but it became a pet peeve of mine when people think it's the only option to lose weight. The longest living people on Earth consumed a diet largely carbohydrate based and we shouldn't ignore this when trying to look at the big picture. We really shouldn't be considering extreme options unless it fits a very specific goal requiring it. Weight loss itself can be done on any diet granted the caloric intake is under one's personal metabolic rate.

Dietitian here and so very impressed that everything was perfectly on point in the presentation and backed with science(or lack of) 🍎 💫 FYI: many of the same theorized benefits of keto can also be theoretically gained by intermittent fasting. The two states have many biological similarities 🧬 Can you do a video about sunscreens that are Ocean and Reef safe? I want to wear more sunscreen but not at the cost of ocean life and it’s so very tricky/confusing finding ones that are really, truly safe. 🌊✨❤️

I feel the same way! In fortunately, all of the physical sunscreens I’ve tried (about 12 so far) have made my skin so dry that it itches and peels! Then I spend days and days trying to restore my skin barrier.😢. Are there any moisturizing chemical sunscreens that are ocean and reef safe????

I remember in several videos she pointed that those studies that claim ocean damage from chemical sunscreens are nor very acurate. They've DROWN coral cells in those chemicals, on a dish and, of course, they've shown adverse signs. But in the actual ocean that's not what happens. Most likely, coral reefs are being affected by global warming rather than sunscreens. Corals are very sensitive to temperatures

I am a registered dietitian and did keto initially to be able to help my neuro clientes but I ended staying on it for 8 months with no issues. I would recommend eating a good variety of veggies with all your meals (the best would be not restricting non-starchy vegetables). I am considering doing it again to help my rosaceae.

I work in the er and have had so many people with complications from keto and even end up in the ccu with issues. There's way more data to back up other diets for health and longevity such as mediterranean, blue zones, plant based etc. Something to think about.

Hey, Dr. Dray, I was wondering, in terms of sun protection, if there was any additional benefit to it if I wore SPF 30 or 50 underneath a UPF 50+ garment? TIA & hope you are doing well :)
@austaneousc5802
@austaneousc5802 3 жыл бұрын
Generally, no. Since they offer the same amount of protection, and overall spf doesn't stack with additional products, that might be overkill. Having the UPF clothing seems like a good idea, though. It's more convenient as you don't need reapplications like sunscreen.
