Thank you Dr Box. I have been on a ketogenic diet for over a year and have relapsed and have put a few pounds back on because of my old eating habits. It's nice to come back to the basics to jump start ketosis. I had been eating once a day and the weight was coming off and had tons of energy and restful nights. I long for that again and have committed to start today.

I have purchased 5 of your books as gifts. Anyway, to me, keto and fasting go hand in hand. I never thought I could fast. I now can do one day fasts and an occasional 72 hour fast. You can do it!!!! Down 98, off my meds, except bydurian. Recently the sugars have gone up to 100, time to increase the fasting.

I like the campfire analogy. It’s like body needs more energy to constantly carry inefficient fuel e.g. twigs and leafs, and less energy to carry a log from time to time to feed the fire. I’m one week on keto and IF (OMAD). Now doing 72h fast. planning on doing 48 and 72h fasts at least every week. I have chronic fatigue syndrome and I don’t do much activity. I want my body to switch to burning ketones as fast as possible. I set a goal to stick with keto and omad until at least New Year 2021 and see how I’ll feel.

Thank you Dr Boz for this enlightening presentation. I know so many people, who are adopting the keto diet, but then are either ignorant of, or refuse to do fasting. Its really sad, because fasting is such a potent tool to not only break weight loss plateaus, but to enhance so many aspects of ones health. In my own life, if it were not for fasting, I would not have broken through my lengthy weight loss plateau. When I started the low carb diet, I lost my first 65 lbs in a little over 9 months. However, then I hit a weight loss plateau that lasted more than 8 months. It was only after encountering the work of Dr. Jason Fung, that I decided to give fasting a try, and when I finally did incorporate fasting, it jump started my weight loss. Through using fasting in conjunction with my low carb diet, I was able to lose an additional 40 lbs, to get my final weight loss total of 105 lbs. I am lighter and have a smaller waist line now, as a 42 year old man, than when I was an athletic teenager.

Congratulations Drake! I'm hoping to have my own success story some day. I've been keto for 10 months, lost 30 but have stalled for 5 months. I fast occasionally for 20-60 hrs depending my circumstances. What was your fasting protocol? Weekly? Duration? Thx
@alphacause5 жыл бұрын
@@randygretz8195 Thank you. With regards to my fasting protocol, I do an OMAD (One Meal A Day) style of eating. I basically just eat one large meal a day, thus giving me around 23.5 hours of fasting, with just a half an hour window where I consume my calories for the day. Every two or three weeks, I will do a 48 hour fast 2 times in one week. So I will eat one large meal at lunch time Monday, and then not eat until Wednesday at lunch, and then not eat again until Friday at lunch. Then I resume to eating one meal per day every day for another 2 or 3 weeks.
@randygretz81955 жыл бұрын
@@alphacauseThx Drake, that sounds similar to what I started... last week OMAD and this week I did 2 longer fasts 48hr and just finished a 60hr. Next week, because Easter weekend is coming I'll do another 2, 48 hr fasts and then back to OMAD. I guess I'm on the right, I just need to give it time to work 😊 Thx again and have a great weekend! @@randygretz8195 All I can say is you got to keep persisting. The closer you get to your ideal weight, the slower and slower the weight loss is. It can be frustrating at times, because we are inured to expecting fast results, because when you started implementing low carb and intermittent fasting, initially, weight loss is quite rapid. Unfortunately, much like with almost everything else in life, the law of diminishing returns applies. When I started to approach being 10 to 15 lbs away from my ideal weight, even with being strict low carb, using OMAD, sometimes my weight loss would slow to 1 lb per MONTH! However, over time, even at this excruciatingly slow pace, I finally did reach my goal. Its nice, as a 42 year old man, to be one of only a handful of guys at my place of employment, which employs more than 600 people, to have waist size smaller than 30 inches. This is something I could not even achieve in high school. So keep pressing on. The transformation is worth it.

Dr Bosworth you are great at presenting the in and outs of the ketogenic lifestyle. Personally, I have been strict Keto for almost a year and during this time I have been sorting through many sources to fully understand all the particulars to include effective practices and the science behind the lifestyle. I eventually return to your videos as a solid source of information. Which brings me to this thought, I think you would be a great "representative" for ketogenic lifestyle in the national spotlight. Although I am not fan of the Dr. Oz show, I believe you would be a great guest as subject matter expert. I know this show is not a very in depth show, but as a guest I believe you could explain/defend keto and in the process at least pull in some viewers who could find all the further knowledge and inspiration from the combination of your writing and videos. This answers SO many questions about my ketogenic journey. I'm determined to reach a 130 lbs loss, AND I AM HALF WAY THERE. . .But these weightloss stalls and setbacks are disheartening. I'm reluctant to do the 36 hr. fast because I am disabled, on oxygen with lung failure (toxic copper smelter smoke for whole childhood). I'm afraid I will stress myself (heart especially). I can fast 24 doing OMAD... (doing it often in fact). I just can't get my head wrapped around a 36 hr. or longer fast. I will pray about it. I've lost 65 lbs in 6 months! I need to keep going. Need these stalls to go away! I'm on day 12 with no losses...again!

I need to update this for you. I realized that the Mentos gum was a hidden sugar culprit.even though the container says, "sugar free ", there's maltodextrin in them. Also, MSG is so prevalent in most Asian restaurants and other cuisines AND many of your seasonings at home. MSG severely sabotages weightloss. Eliminating these 2 things has spurred my weightloss results. Yay! I am back in the game and down 76 lbs as of today. (6.5 months of I.F. and the ketogenic diet)

I am 70, healthy, and moderately active. I have refused all carbs and sugars in general. I don’t know if I fully adapted to ketones before starting OMD. Should I continue, and expect that I will fully adapt, or should I restart from Keto diet day one, to be more effective in the long game. I was 40# overweight, and pre-diabetic. My glucose has dropped to more normal levels. I don’t know how to test for insulin. Thanks for your clear and interesting presentations.

Thank you for this video. I like the way you explain things in a way that is easy to understand. I've been keto for about 3 weeks, and I am already eating no more than 2 meals a day, some days I am fine with just my noon meal, which is usually a large salad of greens topped with avocado, grated cheese, chicken and a home made low carb salad dressing. I've also been going to the gym before work in the morning. One morning I thought I really couldn't stomach breakfast before hitting the gym, so I just had my lemon water, and I had an amazing workout. I have about 80 lbs to lose, and once I hit 30 minutes on the elliptical I felt almost euphoric, so I kept going for another 15 minutes, and even then I felt like I could just keep going and going. Is it okay to regularly exercise in a fasted state?

What would be really cool Is if you could compare the non-Keto subjects charts and numbers with On-Keto subjects charts and numbers

Well - the good news is ... there are lots of folks in our communities NOT on a keto diet. It won't be as difficult to find a non-keto patient as it was to find the first few keto patients.

Dr. Boz [Annette Bosworth, MD] could u use yourself as the candidate (I’m assuming u are already on Keto)?

Dr Boz, I have had radiation therapy a few years ago. I am on Keto and IF for 7 months now, I am not on any medications but I am concerned about my immune system in the wake od COVID19...because of the radiation therapy. Do you think it is possible that I can still have strong immune system?

@MySelf I have watched on TED a woman who has inoperative brain tumor, doctors gave her 6 months to live max and she is thriving on Keto, its been 5 years or so now. It is worth a try for sure. Personally, I dodged amputation off my leg thanks to Keto. I was so much in pain before that (many times tumor came back so many surgeries), my ankle was damaged and according to doctors only option was amputation. Believe it or not, I can run now! No pain, no pain medications.. I learned my limits only and live happy.

@MySelf I don't know. I sure do hope that at least would stop the tumor growing or slow it down.

That's incredible! I can see how it would be benifitial for the brain power to increase with no food so it would help humans hunt more effectively...thank you for all this great information doc! 😀 Go Keto! 😳

On a 4 day fast my sugar was at 44, and ketones at 12.0. I felt okay, but the numbers were concerning. Should I be concerned? Thank you!

Is it safe for my 82 year old mother to be on this diet? She has no health issues. And also for myself, I am 62 and have celiac disease and also disseminated lyme disease with lots of issues.???

Hello, what method have you used to measure the Insulin levels please. Are you also aware that the thumbnail title is misleading in stating this posting is "Repairing Brains with Ketones" which it isn't. Thank you.

I had been fasting for 16:8 for six months before I started Keto. So when I started keto had my body gotten ketosis adapted by doing it that way or should I stop fasting for a while?

Wonderful information. I'm a t2d and my insulin must be high but I'm finding the idea of fasting difficult. At around noon, on day one, I want to eat. If I fast should I continue taking my metformin? My docs dont understand keto.

Sue... in cases like yours - I would follow the plan that I did with Lachlyn. She consumed exogenous ketones for weeks before she fasted. The higher she got her ketones ... the better she did. Use the advantage of the 21st century -- "ketones in a can" for a couple of weeks before you do a fast. Watch what happens. Your appetite will decrease, your brain will clear (less swelling when ketones are burned instead of glucose), and your sugars will stabilized.

@@DoctorBoz thanks so much for responding. Ok. Today I finally ate at 4:30. I have some of your ketones in a can. My sugar was still 95 and ketones only 1.3. I will continue to shrink my eating window and keep adding ketones in a can. Maybe my hunger will dissipate.

I have been on a ketogenic diet for about 3 weeks and I did a 72-hour fast in there as well and I have noticed that my armpits really smell sour and that goes for my bowel movements too. Any explanation for this and will it ease off? I wonder if I'm eating too much protein and not enough fat. Thoughts? Thanks.

3 weeks is still a time of transition. Your armpit bacteria are still adapting to the new microenvironment found in your armpit sweat. LOL Stay the course

Frustratingly, in Australia, we cannot get the ketones in a can or the pique tea crystals. Amazon won't send them to us!.
