Learning can be challenging, but did you know it can also be fun and empowering, taking you places you have never been before and helping you achieve your goals and dreams? In this podcast, I spoke with master brain coach, top podcast host and NY Times bestselling author Jim Kwik about how learning how to learn is one of the best things we can do for our mental and brain health, why our ability to use knowledge is our superpower, and how the brain is truly limitless, allowing us to be as intelligent as we want to be!
As a child, Jim suffered from several traumatic brain injuries, when affected his ability to perform in school. Eventually, his desperation led to his inspiration: Jim set out to understand how the brain and memory work, and how to learn how to learn. As he notes, this is something that is not often taught in schools, where we are given lots of knowledge to learn, but are not taught how to make the most of this knowledge. Indeed, many of us incorrectly assume that intelligence is something that we are either born with or not, that it is a “fixed” thing, and that is why some people do well and others fail.
Yet, as Jim has shown in his own life, which he describes in his incredible book Limitless: Upgrade Your Brain, Learn Anything Faster, and Unlock Your Exceptional Life, he went from being the “boy with the broken brain” to a world-renowned memory champion and brain coach who has developed a reliable and scientifically sound set of tools to enhance memory formation and learning. He now teaches his techniques to others with astonishing results, and is an in-demand speaker, a brain coach for celebrities and CEOs, the head of a large online learning program, and the host of a podcast with tens of millions of listeners!

Love this! Jesus Christ is both my hero and my mentor and love that science is continuously proving Biblical truths. God the Creator understands the power and abilities He interwove in our brains. In the story of Babel, God recognized that with the abilities of the brain and the willingness to work as one, anything was possible. In the New Testament, we are encouraged to renew our minds. Wonderful work both of you. Thank you 😊

I was in the passenger side of a friend’s car when I clicked on KZbin and immediately saw this video!!! I just about jumped out of the seat! You two are 2 of my Heros!!! Dr. Leaf, I was first introduced to you 8 1/2 years ago at King of Kings Worship Center in NJ. It was from your lips that I first heard the word NEUROPLASTICITY!!! You gave me hope in that I was not stuck with the brain that I have! I was introduced to Jim a few months ago through KZbin commercials. I viewed a few of his videos and was immediately hooked! Jim’s book LIMITLESS arrived in the mail 3 days ago and I dove right in! I can not wait to start Learning How to Learn!

You mentioned something that really hit me (well you mentioned a lot of things) but one, in particular, is that people have a fear of failure because they don't want to look bad. And this was really interesting because I couldn't help but think about the origins of the concept of failure. A lot of the time our environment; during the formative years, covertly teaches us that failures are shameful, as opposed to it being an opportunity to learn. This discussion was so enlightening. Thanks a lot!

YES! I have never been afraid (maybe a little unsure at times) of change, trying new! Doesn't mean I didn't fail numerous times. A friend said that she thought I'd given myself permission to fail. I thought a minute and replied, "I have given myself permission to get back up." I am just 77 and still get back up!!

I’m listening to this As my first keyboard piano got here. I always wanted to play the piano as a kid but I grew up really poor so we had no money for instruments. Honestly feels very powerful just to be able to fulfill a simple childhood want. I don’t know if I’ll be any good but I finally have one and I want to learn! Yay 😁

I changed my mindset regarding my goals, thought process related to motivation, energy, more reading and studying with a purpose/understanding, procrastination isn't an option, Lastly, I'm working on the ridding myself of the "energy vampires" (acknowledging them but couldn't think of this great term)!! Keep up the wonderful work and I'm going to tell all of the "goal-seeking" people that I can.

Hi. Have you ever done brain scans of people while praying? I'd like to see some info regarding that please? (I know they've done experiments in the US Army where they target a certain part of the brain with specific frequencies that turn down people's inherent sense of God or want to rebel and protest for instance... And would think it's closely related...)

Tell the boy what you learned I guess. Tell him that he can change his brain and that simply believing that he can grow and do something has a powerful effect on the brain as well. Give him praise if he does well and reward him sometimes. Never stop teaching him to love. We are to copy Jesus Christ and all of his ways.

You guys should start helping kids from young age how to learn and study the right way. Schools do not teach kids how to learn or study at all. I doubt even the teachers know how to. When I was in school I battled to study, keep info in my head. School didnt help of show me how. I was just thrown aside as part of the helpless kids. My dream was to be a psychologist. I didnt make it to university. Grades too bad. After school i learned how to study. I just kept digging into psychology books, subjects, blogs in my own time for myself. Especially in south african schools...the kids need help on how to study and keep the info fresh. Its a huge problem here for all races. Most teachers are so young (early 20's). They would rather yell at struggling kids than help the kids. Also I noticed that teachers would rather ignore struggling kids so they can keep up with the hectic syllabus. Sending kids for expensive private extra classes to learn what has been taught in school has become the new normal
