I 10000% agree about the missing vibe through the missing character interactions. It was very well executed to not put them in the way when the shit‘s happening, but otherwise the little slice of life content and some not-so-outfleshed scenes really let it feel kinda rushed several times. That’s what I was thinking during my playthrough as well, and I was more than happy to engage in some specific scenes, for example when Momo and Pollon had some time together. Maybe there‘ll be some drama cds or extra materials sooner or later that will give these characters (which had phenomenal roles indeed must be said) some more time to shine ✨

I'm 100% with you on this. Just finished reading A;C, and wanted to know if others shared my feeling on it. I loved the game SOOOO much, but I feel that besides Pollon and Momo (and to some extent Asuma), everyone else were just background characters I had zero attachment to. BUT the world building and the lore were so great and moving at such speed, I just couldnt stop reading (unlike most VN with slower pace which I need to read just a little bit every night because of how bored I get during the "slice of life" moment). There was no down time, no fat, just pure action all the time (if it makes sense in a VN). But I agree that an extra 5-10 hours of character development would have made those "shit hit the fan" moment hit even harder. Anyway, great video! Thanks for it!

Great video! I’m sold. Outside of starting Steins;Gate once and not sticking with it, I have basically no experience with the series, so I really appreciate that you said the game seems good for newcomers like me. I’m wanting to get started streaming with a large focus on adventure and puzzle games that I’ve not played before like this, so I think this would be a perfect fit for that. I’m excited to start! Oh, I wanted to add, I really like the whole save/load thing being integrated into the story. It sounds like a more fleshed-out version of what we saw in Virtue’s Last Reward, which absolutely blew my mind at the time of its release. Also, that whole hacking bit was golden. “They’re forcing me to download more RAM!” had me ROLLING. Simply amazing.

Each story can be enjoyed on its own, even A;C, but just note that you will probably have a comparatively degraded experience than if you'd read it in order as you won't be able to make some connections & the lore implications will go right over your head. If you don't particularly care about the grander lore of SciADV as a whole & just want to enjoy the ride, go for it. Otherwise, absolutely start with Chaos;Head Noah. Just my two cents though.

But, if you just want a fun time? No reason why you couldn't just jump in here and go backwards. Totally agree with the character depth and lack of slice of life. In contrast to the other SciADV VNs, you don't have character routes, so you don't have as many moments focused towards individual moments. Gameplay-wise, the level of interaction "you" have with the story was refreshing, considering I finished C;H prior to starting this one (which was A LOT of re-reading back to chapter 6 each time to finish all of the routes). There just wasn't enough background or transparent motivation with each of the colorful characters. And in between the quests, you have weeks that are skipped past that could've been reserved for more of that character interaction. It was still a fun story and the overall concepts I thought were pretty rad. Plus, we still have STEINS;??? to look forward to.

Mostly just not pleased at how it felt like the ending and chapter 11 felt so rushed. There were a lot of strong ideas that faltered due to needing to speed through it. It seemed like they ran out of money and had to sprint to the finish line, so it made all of those cool moments not resonate.
@hooinkyoma9704 Жыл бұрын
@@culIen that's validate, they sprinted through the ending like the entire game. What we saw wasn't bad, it's just that it feels like they opted for the hype moments there. I mean that's clearly not all, but in response, the lore is now an utter chaos (at least to me). Maybe it was intended and they will come back to some of the shown stuff in the future (like so often), but the scientific ideas really did not feel too fleshed out tbh. This together with so few character moments really are two lacking SciADV core elements that are nagging away at me. I'm also not too much of a Shounen guy and was 1 a bit overwhelmed by the terminology, like what were they even talking about at some point xD, and 2 wasn't too much of a fan of how they handled the climax. I thought previous games in the series went a bit overboard with the slice-of-life stuff. You could easily cut several hours from S;G, R;N, and the Chaos games without losing anything in terms of plot and character development. Even still, from all the reviews I've seen, it seems like they overcorrected a bit. Having all that downtime was essential for becoming emotionally attached to the characters, even if it dragged at times. I will still buy this though, and maybe if sales are good, we'll get an Anonymous;Code Elite with extra scenes to flesh out the characters.

I think that's a completely fair read! I just really dig the comfy hang out vibes, and when the cast is as likeable as this or R;N I could spend hours just seeing them goof off and relax. As a huge Sci;Adv fan I always prepare myself for "The Scene" that seems to come up in every game... I did not expect to right-click and reveal worst punchline in the game within the first half hour of gameplay. Like you said, super weird since the rest of the game doesn't do anything in the same vein again. I hope I'm just misremembering though, there has to be a SciAdv game without some weird boomerism... r-right? Either way, great review and it captures a lot of my own feelings towards A;C. To me, it really is a culmination of a lot of SciAdv as a whole and it feels so good to finally have my hands on. But that's as a lore lover. The vibe-side of me definitely thinks there are places SoL could have helped a lot as well, hell, Christmas was a whole chapter which is like...??? Often when I'd progress into a new chapter early on I was thinking "Huh? Already?". With it being shorter than other games, and feeling how close the end was, I was expecting disappointment, this game that took so long to develop being done so soon... but no, I also grew to love this game that wasn't what I expected it to be. I really need a cast as strong as this to hook me in again.

I’m fairly skeptical on Science Adventure, having liked the first Steins a lot although not overwhelmingly so and bounced straight off Robotics having liked nothing about it by the time I jumped off. I’ve been trying to figure out if I want to jump on board this one as I go through a minor VN phase, and keep pinging back and forth on the particulars. Superficially, I truly cannot bear how this game looks at all, either in artstyle or modeled execution. But I’m intrigued by the idea of a much faster paced ; game. But I’m wary of the thematic aims being so similar to a lot of other VNs lately, especially having just played what I think is by far the best of any of these meta takes. I think your aside about that early scene here, though, is what will finally scare me away for the moment, since I suspect if I’d just casually reached that in play I’d probably put the game down. Question about the "boomer cringe/anti lgbtq" scene. Wouldn't it be more non inclusive to never write a character that is put off by this situation? To say that no FICTIONAL character should ever have feelings other than what we want them too seems wrong. Should stories never have villains? Essentially a villain is a character with a view/drive that we don't agree with. And often times they turn into sympathetic characters. Not everyone is comfortable with every single thing the world has to offer. In my opinion, saying there shouldn't be a character with a character trait we disagree with, is essentially saying having a difference of opinion is wrong and shouldn't be accepted. If we should be accepting of all types of people, it shouldn't stop at people's emotions we don't agree with. Just a thought.
@culIen Жыл бұрын
These aren't our villains, though, and this is not a trait they can improve with. The series has several mean-spirited protagonists who experience gay panic scenes. While they aren't great, they still fit more than this because you can believe it. The characters have plenty of room to grow, and the games were written in a generally unsympathetic time period for these kinds of issues. So, they make sense. Pollon and Cross' entire characters are that they're well-meaning kids who help anyone in need. They're good kids who are also internet savvy, they probably wouldn't hold the same views as an old man in 2023. This isn't a character trait, this is a one off gag where the writer is disregarded the characters written to make fun of people mining their own business. Also, finally, bigotry isn't a quirky character trait in real life. We should accept people who live their lives without harming others, I see no reason to accept anyone who believes that people don't deserve equal rights just for being different. I see no reason why we should give people a pass because they refuse to throw out cruel traditional ways of thinking. They choose to do that, people don't choose to love who they love.
@brian728 Жыл бұрын
@@culIen I agree with some of what you said. "We should accept people who live their lives without harming others". True. Someone feeling uncomfortable in an unexpected situation shouldn't be shunned. My point is that if the world wants everyone to be included and accepted, you can't stop when you don't agree with someone's feelings. In that scene Pollon expressed his surprise and being uncomfortable with the situation. He didn't harm anyone. There is a large amount of media that conveys lgbtqs uncomfortable feelings both with themselves and their day to day lives. How is this any different? I'm extremely pro Lgbtq, but I'm also aware that shunning someone's feelings is the same as discrimination. Discrimination against a strait characters uneasy feelings in that situation, is essentially saying what you are feeling is wrong, you're wrong for thinking it, and there's no excuse. If the roles were reversed, the community would applaud their ability to express their uncomfortable feelings in a situation where their sexuality doesn't fit. As far as this being a character in a novel. To say there shouldn't be a character that feels this way is essentially limiting art. These people exist, and their existence shouldn't shunned.
@culIen Жыл бұрын
@brian728 I don't really wish to engage in this further after this, but you are trying to say that a majority group being uncomfortable of a minority group would be the same as the minority group being uncomfortable by a majority group. This is a false equivalent. Being LGBT is something worthy of discriminating against in a lot of parts of the world, so any people uncomfortable with them minding their business and just trying to be happy is something I just don't accept. Straight people were not born to hate others with a different sexual orientation, that's something learned. I don't think everyone wants everyone in the world to be accepted, because by that logic we'd have to accept the ideals of hate groups. I don't think we should stand hand in hand with those that mean to belittle, oppress, or even kill people who just want to live their lives. Are we only drawing a line at ignorant conservatives or centrists who are uninformed and lack empathy? I don't think uninformed people are the same as hate groups, obviously, but I don't think a fundamental lack of empathy for oppressed groups is a trait that should be accepted in the modern era. Not everyone acts violently based on these beliefs, but these are the same beliefs that motivates oppressors and maintains a status quo where innocent people are oppressed. However, the great thing about life is that we can make choices. Ignorant people can choose not to accept others, and I can choose not to include those kinds of people in my life. Alternatively, you can be friends with these people if you wish, and I genuinely don't care because it doesn't affect me. We all draw our own lines, and I don't have to agree with yours and you don't have to agree with mine. Also, LGBTQ people being uncomfortable and learning to accept themselves is just a part of life. We literally all have that period of time where we don't know how to be truly proud of who we are. The difference is that straight people are largely considered normal in society, so they have support systems in place to help them by default. Also, a group being critical or unsure about themselves is very obviously different than another group doing the same thing. I'm not limiting art, artists can do whatever they want. But that does not mean art is ever free from criticism, or that everything has to be an artistic statement. With full context of the game, this is not setting anything up or meant to be a character trait. This is the writers trying to make fun of people for being different, and I think it's just pointless and mean-spirited. The disconnect here is that you think I'm shunning a real person who is being uncomfortable, and I am not. Pollon is not real, like with all protagonists he is a vehicle for writers to convey themes and ideas. I am shunning a writer who felt the need to speak through the fiction and say that we should be uncomfortable by a group of consenting adults just minding their business. It never comes up again, and both Pollon and Cross don't show this kind of judgemental behavior to anyone else. It is out of character, which is my point. If you think it's fine, more power to you. You can like it, and I don't have to. That's all.

@@culIen That was a disappointing rant. I'll make sure that if I ever enter into a situation like that, and I feel uncomfortable, I will know for a fact that I'm a bad person. If I'm ever hit on by a sex/gender that I don't find attractive, and I'm uncomfortable, again, I'm a bad person. I'll know that how I feel should never be represented in any fiction, because why would anyone ever relate to how I feel. For someone who reads so in depth to a series I truly love, it's disappointing to know that you think I'm a bad person, as well as anyone who has ever felt uncomfortable around situations like these. You turned a simple "he's uncomfortable" to "hate groups and bigotry". I'll be going now. Thank you for years of science adventure series coverage.

@brian728 its very clear that you did not engage with a single thing I wrote if that's what you took from it. I never called you a bad person, I said I think your logic of accepting people without empathy is the kind of thing that hateful people will take advantage of to perpetuate bigotry. You jumping to ignore all of my points about writers and fiction, call it a rant, and then claim I personally said you are a bad person reeks of projecting. I don't think you're a bad person, I don't know you enough to make any statement on you as a person and never would. You wanted to have a discussion, so I did. Good bye, and take care.

I dunno man, I mean, I've been waiting for this game for years and was super hyped about it, but after I played it... To me it feels like the worst sci;adv game (yes, worse than DaSH). It's just so shallow... The caracters feel really empty and have little to no development and while there were some unique ideas in the game everything else just feels so bland. Yes, the narrative is tight, the action is high-paced but what does a;c has to offer besides it? I just don't understand all that praise for the game, all I wanted to do while playing it was to laugh and facepalm at its stupidity (seriously, stealing concepts from The Da Vinci Code in 2023?). I really wanted to enjoy a;c but after finishing it I just feel so disappointed and empty...

I've recently found your channel and your videos are great, but please, could the subtitles match what is being said?🥲💔 I use subs because I can't always make out the words being said or stay mentally on track and the subs help with that, but leaving out sentences and changing the phrasing... I can't focus on the meaning when I hear one thing and read another. Auto subs are okay because you do speak clearly, but they are messy and can be hard to follow. People often talk about SoL in terms of its quantity, but I think the problem lies much more in its _quality._ Many works simply seem to struggle to make the SoL actually interesting/entertaining, and often it's repetitive on top of that: in Steins;Gate, Daru making an unoriginal pervy comment for the umpteenth time was just not fun. A story does not even need to have a "sol time" because character moments and interactions can be woven into the plot while still keeping it moving. It's a shame that A;C apparently just instead laserfocuses on the plot, missing the mark once again. Still excited to eventually play it though.

Thank you very much for the feedback, I'm sorry this tends to slip through the cracks. The videos change from initial scripting, and then I go back and try to change the scripts to match the new stuff after I hit render. Unfortunately for time, human error, tiredness or a large amount of dumb personal reasons sometimes I miss things and the script I upload just doesn't line up. I'll try to improve on that for future videos, I'm sorry and thank you so much for letting me know 🙏 I appreciate your kind words and support!
