Which Persona game should Atlus remake next?

While I really like all the mainline Persona games, no game deserves a remake as much as Persona 2 Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment. Even without a calendar system, I'm sure newer Persona fans would learn to appreciate it as well.

Simple answer, P1 and P2 duology getting the P3P and P4G, HD remaster treatment for P30th and later on, after P6 release. A P4Golden getting the P3Reload style of remake. If P1 and P2 duology HD remasters, sell well, is a good sign for Atlus, to make a remake, later down the line. If they sell poorly, a remake wouldn't make any sense, to make. 😅

I think p2 remake can take element from SMT V + P5 striker, the game can have long hr if combine both story IS and EP. About the dlc story, i see wiki mentioned atlus made a P2 phone game story before which can be it. Maybe the future Persona game, P1/P2 MC persona and ultimate persona also be DLC. I really like Apollo design which feel bad not in P5 as dlc.

Its beyond stupid to have p1 and p2 hardlocked behind ancient relic hardware ps1 or psp. Obviously p4g remake would be cool but still baffeled that the best way to play either p1 and p2 is to emulate them on modern pc hardware... atlus is leaving free money on the table by not having these bangers available on current hardware, and judging by how rushed p3p steam version was there's honestly no reason to not do them.

"too much free money" lmao dude have you actually played through P1 and the P2 Duology? They're horrriibleee, they've aged so poorly that it's insane. The story in persona 1 is barely memorable and sucks, philemons appearance being the only event interesting. Persona 2's story is actually really good and bizarre but it has just aged so poorly. Adapting these games into the modern persona field would be close to impossible. Either they fully adapt the games just like they are but with reworked modern graphics, and the games performs horrible due to the mechanics being really outdated and terrible, or they make a full on remake on the mechanics and you leave old persona fans pissed off or the game ends up being adapted weird. Sorry but while Persona 2 is well written, it's impossible to remake them. At best they could just drop a re-release of the remastered versions of the games from the PSP, anything else is very risky.

⁠@@critical_6164How is it impossible? Have you played Metaphor? I've only played the demo but just from that I saw a it of familiar P1-2 mechanics that could work in a potential remake. Random encounters can be removed in favor of respawnung enemies that Tatsuya can attack for an advantage like in the other games. From there they can just use a more balanced version of Reload Episode Aigis's combat (don't fix what ain't broken). BOOM! The one thing holding newer players back from enjoying the game, fixed just like that

@ They dint need to please both. Just pick one. Reload was specifically made for fans of P5 who never played 3 (they said this multiple times) and it turned out great. Besides they don't need to adapt the social link system. No new fan is asking for that. The most I've seen anyone ask for is hangout events like Soul Hackers 2 which yeah, that can work

For a gamer perspective, a P1 and P2 duology remake would make sense, since P4G HD remaster still holds well. But for a Gamer development/publisher, after the good numbers of P3Reload. What remake to do next. What would be most profitable, lucrative. P4 is much more popular than P1 and P2 duology, the often forgotten, niche persona audience. Of course for them, would be, most profitable a P4G Remake in similar molds of P3Reload. And since an HD remaster, is less expensive and time consuming to make than a remake, the best way to test the waters, would be with an HD remaster of P1 and P2 duology, released during P30th Anniversary along side with P6. A remake of P1 and P2 would depend on the sales of their remasters. If those sell poorly, a remake of them would be a big financial gamble and risk. The answer to that, basically depends on the perspective you choose and take, the fan/gamer one or the Atlus/business one.

I feel P2 duology completes the first trilogy and P2 could just be adapted to have the press turn system (like in metaphor, as I don’t think one more would fit the game). Both Maya and Tatsuya should never be forgoten. Nor Kandori or Philemon and Nyarly. On the other hand, P4 would just print money. Character portraits and anime cutscenes are on par with P5 and the makeover and added content in the Golden version is very good, aside from Marie. lol. As they did in 2008, they could use the same unreal engine and modifications they did to P3. Add shifts and more types of melee and magical damages and maybe turn the dungeons like Tartarus with some palace-esque moments and you would be golden (maybe even give Hanako some ozempic, who knows? lol) And put back in the game the Yosuke romance Route so his homephobia is kinda explained. Thinking back, however, P4 is riddled with sexual and gender issues and in 2025+ some of it would be very distasteful and Atlus should thread very carefully on this path.

As much as I love Persona 4 Golden, there, really isn't much you can do to further improve the game. Sure it would be nice to have palaces but it might take away the charm of the original plus the rogue like areas makes them infinitely replayable. Plus, the writing is there gameplay is there music there it's all there as it is, P4G is just perfect from a fundamental level the best you can do is just idk, bring back missing PS2 graphical features and release it as a free update and you've got yourself a perfect version of Persona 4 Golden. Persona 2 duology though, if you're remaking it it's not just for money, it's about remaking it because it genuinely deserves it plus it is a criminally underrated duology of games in media like dude, the story and characters make the game so grandiose it's amazing how Atlus hasn't given the duology the respect it deserves not to mention Persona 1 (though tbh Persona 1 could be left out for another time considering that game is quite the fever dream from what I've seen and heard about).

I think P4 justifies itself due to both it's popularity and due to the same argument for remaking both P2 games: Asset Reuse. P4 also reuses assets from P3 so doing a remake for 4 would not mean as much work as starting from zero for the first remake of 2 due to them having the assets from Reload in hand, this is pretty much why I think it might get it before 2.

They should do what Konami is doing with the early days collection for YGO. A super pack of P1 and both parts of P2 as one connected release. Maybe it doesnt have to be full 3D but I mean with the success the franchise is having these days, it would be worth them at least considering going all out from the ground up to make it as polished as possible. Nothing stopping them from adding QoL features and even some new content to align it more to what the series has become too 🤷‍♂️

Their biggest problem is going to be aligning a price point that's fair tbh. I still haven't bought P3 Reload because frankly it's fucking ridiculously priced when imo P3FES is still the best way to experience the game and the graphics haven't aged badly at all.

Persona 2 absolutely deserves all the love the modern fans could give it, and I'm sure if Atlus doesn't fumble the original story in a remake, the new fans would eat it up!! I'm in the middle of my own P2:IS PSP replaythrough via emulation (just finished Aoba park dungeon) and literally the only complaint I have is the gameplay with the absurd encounter rate. Other than that, the story is superb, the characters are super unique, and there's just the right amounts of serious and goofy moments to balance everything out. Again, I just hope Atlus keeps all the distinct "controversial" stuff like the darker themes, queer characters, no calendar system, and no social links

Definitely persona 1 and 2 (both of IS and EP). Persona 3 and 4 imo is just fine as it is. Both has a certain charm in original version. For example looking at P3 reload, i think the reload missing certain atmosphere of darkness and desperation from the original version. Even the character portrait imo is better in the original version of P3.

The Persona 2 duology needs to be remade. The story is S-tier stuff, but the gameplay is slow and dated (yes, even the PS2 versions, personally I just don’t enjoy auto-battle gameplay), so even if they did a low-effort remake that did nothing else but make the combat more in-line with modern SMT, that would be amazing.

I think P1 and 2 will get a remake at some point, but I think P4 will get a remake first. I know the P4 doesn't need a remake but watch it from Atlus perspective. It is a game with PS2 level graphics. P3 reload sold very well, so this game will probably also sell well. the original P4 is basically a rom hack of P3 so they can use a lot of assets from 3 reload and also a few from P5. The game probably comes from after P6, so a lot of ideas and mechanics from P6 can be used for the remake

I'm very much certain, that P4 will get a remake once the P6 release is finished (meaning after the 2 rumored DLCs / conventional re-release), as it's an easy and profitable way to bridge the gap between P6 and P7. P1 and P2 are imo very unlikely to be getting full remakes. I do believe that the reason that some SMT entries, Etrian Odyssey and Catherite already gotten remastered, while the older and more obscure game from the much more popular Persona franchise didn't, is because Atlus wanted to leave that opportunity open for themselves. Sadly I also believe, that the effort of modernizing the games and re-creating them on a modern engine will be seen as not worth it, judging by how Atlus was even reluctant to green-light the low effort Episode Aigis DLC. Also P3 and P4 are Hashino games, who has atp probably reached godlike status within Atlus & Sega. There will be great reluctance to ever introduce the fans brought on by Hashino Persona to pre-Hashino Persona (even as he stepped away from P-Studio), as they may be afraid that P1 & P2 will taint Persona's image. But who knows, maybe the impressive sales numbers of P3R and the constant outcry from the hardcore fans will make them change their mind.

While the story is absolutely the peak part of Persona 2, it's obviously not the only thing we like about it. I don't think an anime would garner as much love or attention as a remake would, they were still games originally after all. Also, considering the dubious quality of the Persona 5 anime, I wouldn't trust Atlus to produce a P2 anime with that same late 90s feel and complex story themes

1. You do realize Persona 6 is already being developed, as of now, according to leaks, which is in the final stages of localization. And 2. Probably 90% of Persona players don't have the console to even play Persona 1 and 2. So saying "We already have the originals" is a dumb argument when most people can't play P1 and 2.

P5's gameplay is objectively the best in the series and Reload/Episode Aigis improved the balancing too so you can have P5 gameplay with actual challenge. Even so the story takes priority for most fans. It's why people still play the original P3 and P4 even though their gameplay is pretty standard (and in the case of FES downright bad)

If i was being biased i would say that SMT 4's gameplay is objectively better than any game atlus has made but you dont see me or other people saying all persona games should play like SMT 4. Changing the combat system isnt improving it, its just making it completely different. You might as well just be asking for a mod of P5 with the story of 2 or any other game. This mindset is why remakes lately have been leaving behind the original ideas that were had and failing to preserve what made them unique. The resident evil remakes are a lot of fun but you have to admit that the loss of the fixed camera angles took something away from what made resident evil special in the 90s. I would really hate if P2's gameplay was reduced to the same tired and slow combat of the modern persona games

@ It's not biased. It's fact. Also why are you bringing up SMT 4? We're talking Persona. In P1 you'll constantly die for reasons that aren't at all your fault. Besides that, it's just your standard JRPG gameplay. If you want that, that's fine. That game already exists. It's called Revelations/SMT Persona. But why bother remaking a game if not to improve the the player experience? Also you have some semblance of a point with RE but Persona 1 literally has NOTHING unique to lose. The most unique mechanic was the formations system and it just boiled down to "Make a formation for when you're ambushed". Besides that it's literally just basic JRPG combat. P2 at least has fusion spells which is unique but that can easily work with P5 combat. Also you wanna call modern combat slow and tired. What do you call P1 and 2's? At least modern Persona combat requires some thought instead of being focused on auto battle or rng

@@connorharnage6697 Modern persona combat does not require thought, all you do is target weaknesses provided to you by the navigator and then do an all out attack and rinse and repeat while watching slow drawn out animations that are even slower than the psx games. Also i brought up smt 4 because it is a (in your words) objectively better combat system to show how foolish it sounds to say that a vastly different gameplay style is superior to something that is completely different.

Persona 4 doesn’t need a remake. Persona 3 FES is quite dated and the amount of things P3P added made a Persona 3 remake necessary. But Persona 4 doesn’t have those issues. Aside from graphics and maybe a little bit of modern JRPG streamlining, there’s not much to do. Persona 2 has an amazing story but the gameplay is (to be frank) kind of ass. Though I do agree, I can wait for Persona 1, no one cares about Persona 1. Though they would probably be more likely to remake Persona 4 considering how much of a cash cow that would be.
