I'm pretty hyped up today. I've only been on keto/carnivore a little over 3 months. I got my blood work results today. On March 30th my A1C was 10.1, and I was an insulin dependent diabetic. Today's results - A1C is 5.6. I messed up a bit for the first month or so until I worked out what I was doing wrong and why my blood sugar wasn't coming down, so I'm hoping the next one will be even lower, but to say I'm happy about no longer being a diabetic, at least according to the ADA standards is an understatement Your videos are a big part of how I got on the right track. You and DR Berry have taught me a lot with your videos!😀

Thank you for your valuable insight I have been low carb for the past 23months. I have now lost 128lbs and my diabetes is in remission. I was thrilled when my blood glucose level actually dipped below 3.8 (UK). When I started I had my own little mantra which I still use. - I can't control where the weight goes from or what my body does with food but I can control what I put in my mouth.

Hi Dr. Cywes. I am Physician Assistant carnivore 2 months and love the in-depth knowledge and am trying to pass the word on to patient who can benefit. I have a video subject request that I don't believe you have done yet but I feel would be of great interest to your audience! I think it would be a great video if there was a pattern of what to expect in health ailments improving on a ketogenic diet. Is there a pattern you see? What disease do you see improvement in sooner and which ones are more stubborn. I assume gastrointestinal problems respond relatively quickly due to the non inflammatory diet and lots of GI rest with decreased eating and more complex problems like chronic fatigue take longer to respond. As most people got into keto/carnivore due to chronic health problems it would be great to address the timing and degree that you see improvement in them. Thank you!

Thank you for all this information. I am 88 years old. Discovered 2 years ago that I was Celiacs and stopped eating wheat. As some symptoms persisted I stopped all grains. I am also salicylate sensitive so eat few fruits or vegetables. I can tolerate dairy. Reduced other carbohydrates gradually until only ice cream and potato chips left. Stopped those last week. For 4 nights I got no sleep due to nocturia every 2 hours. I had reduced magnesium supplement supplement at same time. Added back some carbs including ice cream but no chips. Able to sleep again but want to go total carnivore. I am 4'7" due to osteoporosis vertebral fx and weigh 120. No doctors in this area do your stuff. I am low income, a qualified Medicare beneficiary which means some additional Medicaid. Any advice is welcome.Thank you for your videos on KZbin.

I just keep learning with you. Thank you. The other day though, I strayed. I saw a doctor I recognized (but didn't really know) giving an interview on a show that may have just been made up for him (long ad). He was talking about nutrition. I was about 1/4 of the way into this VERY long youtube when he began the assault on keto. He said it damages the mitochondria, keeps you in starvation mode, and people gain weight and that's why they all quit. Well, I know for a fact that counting calories on a typical American diet feels like you are starving, every second. I've had many, many, many first days on that type of diet and my weight did changed. I'd drop 5 lbs and gain 10, drop another 2 lbs and gain another 10.... I went up and down and starved and just cried. It was so frustrating. Recently, while on a fairly strict keto diet, I lost 30 lbs (less than 3 months) and I am older individual with Hashimoto's so that is pretty significant. Have to say too, I'm not hungry.

Yes I learned this recently. I am 95% carnivore now because of what my body has told me since starting Keto 6+ weeks ago. I am very thankful to find Dr. Cywes on KZbin because he helped me to understand why I don't need to learn about Keto or Carnivore from KZbin influencers; I am better off learning from experienced medical doctors successful in applying their understanding in their model of care with their own patients (and even themselves). I learn the physioligical rules and listen to my body and manage my eating from there.

Experimenting with fasting is great if you got nothing else to do all day but if you got to go to work and be mentally or physically active I don’t recommend it. My experience is that 10% of the ketosis time you feel great and 90% of the time you feel crap. 2nd month in I developed serious constipation problems, now I’ve introduced salads back into my diet to increase fiber a potassium. I’m slightly irritated that there isn’t better info out there that will explain to you the challenges involved in going ketovore.

I have spent countless hours watching MCAT prep videos on metabolism, bio chem, metabolic testing in metabolic chambers and our body fuel utilization ratios, etc. trying to understand how this all fits together and its obvious science and medicine are just making a lot of theory and have very little facts eapecially about what type 2 diabetes really is. Its obviously a fat storage dysfunction and liver dysfunction disease not a glucose storage issue. The biggest problem with all of this is not all of us are the same which doesnt make sense from a mechanical perspective, most deer or tigers are exactly the same mechanically and they dont contend with these abnormalities with metabolism and disease humans do. Largely because science, medicine and agriculture have messed with our normal evolution and mostly not for the better with antibiotics and childhood vaccines being the exceptions and emergency medicine. I lost a tremendous amount of weight eating a low carb paleo type diet of meat, fish, eggs and low glycemic/low starch fruit and vegs. Yet i have struggled for 1.75 years with anxiety, heart palpitations, POTs and other odd blood pressure abnormalities, blood glucose trending in the low 100s instead of idle at below 100, low power and endurance in exercise. All my issues would go in cycles and i of course addressed electrolytes and still have struggled with consistency. I recently after starting to gain back weight slowly reduced my fat intake and increased my carb intake systematically after exercise and meals with root vegetables and fruit. Within 2 weeks everything seems to have largely normalized my weight went back down and so far my blood glucose has dropped back down to the low 90s at idle, my blood pressure is normal and POTs issues are largely gone. So apparently depending upon their activity level and potentially some weird stuff going on with glucose regulation, vagus nerve issues, some of us need some exogenous carbs for our bodies to regulate themselves. It could potentially be damage from all those years of drinking mountain dew habitually all day messing up the sensing mechanism from over exposure of glucose. Very hard to say exactly the what and the why but at 57 years old shite just also starts malfunctioning.

I feel your pain...lol, I think we all gravitate towards content that reinforces the things we already believe, it's just human nature. Lately I've been very unsure of anything I see. The more i learn, the less i feel sure about. There's got to be some universal truths, but also some individual nuance. I am a mess of autoimmune conditions, so inflammation is the key for me. I've never been obese but now in my 50s I definitely have the dad body, basically a spare tire around the waist, I've been on and off low carb, bordering on keto for years , when I try to reintroduce low carb veggies like brocolli I get extremely painful gas. Yet when I eat some potatoes or slow cooked tomato sauce I feel good.(maybe my Irish lineage for the taters.) So what can you do but to press on and keep learning. I think Dr. Cywes is someone I'll keep listening to and I look forward to his next video. I am also batting around the idea of a consult with him, but he may run away when he hears the complexities of my situation. Autoimmune, heart disease (7 stents), emphysema...arthritis of hands, wrists, elbows, sternum..., but I feel it's all driven by inflammation.

Urine tests only indicate ketones you don’t use and that are being eliminated by the body. The longer you’ve been in ketosis, the adapt your body becomes at using ketones as a source of fuel, so they no longer get excreted. I use a keto mojo and get ketones and blood glucose measured by what’s in my blood stream…way more accurate.

I should be the one coaching people. I don’t know why all these overweight people are trying to give people all this wrong advice. Unless you are dangerously too lean you will not run out of ketones trust me. You don’t have to be eating all this fat or all these ketone supplements.

I've started leaning towards Dr. Westman's trend of adequate protein for lean mass preservation or gain with newfound exercise, and less fat for encouraging fat use from the fat stores. Some carbs may be tolerable by those that are active and have larger muscles that can absorb the majority of blood sugar excesses..

But aren't you an internet gumflapper?

Depends on the value and validity of the gumflapper -surely. Dr Cywers is knowledgeable, generous with his explanations and gives data which can be checked. It is up to you to drive your life however you like and enjoy/suffer the consequences.

Sorry but no, nobody benefits from Saladino's diet, what the hell is this? Health is not subjective, subjective is not science. While some individuals need different approaches or might differ a little bit their diet from others for many reasons, most people need a carnivore diet because that is the one the human body is made for, has nothing to do with "programming", we are talking about what is the "fuel" the human body needs not programming, this video is programming and in the wrong way. Saladino's diet is good for no one, that is a fact. It is true that you can't go from high carb to carnivore too quickly and needs a transition period, but that is different.

Of the 8 billion people on earth about 5 billion exist because of carbs. Don't mix up scarcity and abundance. The issue is not carbs...it's a person's relationship w them. It's mental health dysfunction that drives pathophysiology in an era of abundance.

It seems to work very nicely for Dr Saldino.
