After getting the 78' MGB running, we noticed a problem with the transmission, it wasn't able to shift properly. I traced the problem to the clutch slave cylinder and rubber clutch line. I was able to fix the clutch problem by changing out the rubber line, the clutch slave cylinder and then bleeding the clutch! Here is a step by step how-to so you can do it yourself!

Nice vid! Question: How do you know if it's the master or the slave? Today my clutch just died. Pedal is mushy. Master is full of fluid. I just drove it a few weeks ago.

@@DrDExplainsStuff When mounted to the bell house the rest air can not escape 100%. The design of the slave s*cks. Fill up the reservoir to the right level. For the last drops of air I disconnect the slave. Open the nipple, rotate the slave anti clockwise. You ll see the last air drops escape. Carefully return the slave. The fluid level should be fine now. This has worked well for me the last 30 years... I keep following you. I love your video's. 🤛

Dr.... couple of questions... What size of fine thread nuts and copper washers does the clutch slave cylinder hose use? What size wrenches do I need? Or could you send me a complete list of these items. My MGB Roadster is a 77. Any help will be appreciated

Hi Dr. I really enjoy your videos , just have a question for you. I just changed my clutch and pressure plate and now it is making a whirring sound. Can you please tell me what's going on? Everytime I think that, all is fixed and something happens. .

The power to the wheels was not properly tested. Should have braked while wheels running freely or do road test. Do not yet know if clutch is engaging properly to give full power to the wheels while under load. Clutch could still be slipping under load. Also don't trust after market slave cylinders. Check University Workshop video on same subject. He is the MASTER.

do you know what you do if you break the freaking line while trying to remove the rubber hose. UGH It would not move and I tried to hold it and slipped and the metal line to the rubber line broke in half. UGH

Dr D, Before you cut the rubber hose and used a socket and a wrench to remove the hose from the bracket attached to the body, did you remove the pipe fitting on top first? After you loosened the hose from the big nut, it appeared to fall out of the hole. I didn't see you loosen the pipe fitting. I have a 67 MGB and I will be working on it today. New slave and rubber hose.

I don’t recall, but I may have. I’m sorry, I can’t be of more help! I don’t think it would matter either way. How did it turn out?

@@DrDExplainsStuff I tried to loosen the fitting on the end of the tube to replace the hose and it is frozen to the end of the hose. There is no room to get a wrench on it and it must have been installed before the engine was put in. I'm sure it is possible but I was unable to do it. Thank you for the reply.

Just watched this clutch slave bleed vid, and I gotta say you got lucky. I've tried vacuum, gravity, and pressure bleed no luck. Seems I've gotta get a partner. Have you tried other methods?

I'm with you brother............ I'm in a similar situation right now, I also tried pressure bleeding without success. What I have found is the rubber boot split on the slave cylinder, suspect that this might be allowing air back in on the return stroke after the press and bleed stroke of the pedal. Due to the master cylinder design with the two internal seals and the very small hole allowing displaced fluid back in it is easier to suck air than suck fluid. Thats my theory anyway :) .

should have taken that pin out of the clutch fork and then remove that pushrod. When you took the old one off, the pivot pin was rusted in. Did you remove that pin and clean it up so it pivots?

Good point. I will work on this next. This is probably contributing to my shifting problems. Thanks for the tip.
