I used to sweat a lot and have a strong odor under armpits. It got worst when I was at a job which boss was screaming at me and verbally abusive everyday all day (I worked there 3 months). So I sweated and stink because it was my anxiety. I used Perspirex, it's a roll-on antiperspirant, and it worked! I also washed by hand my bras and shirts and coats with pure coconut soap, letting it in the sun for some minutes with the coconut soap rubbed there under armpits, sometimes with a little bit of sodium bicarbonate. And then I washed rubbing it on my hands (in Brazil we have a type of sink only to the laudry area, it's called tanque de roupas 😅 I know that it doesn't exists in many countries). I washed it there, yes, one by one.... And let in the high sun again. I also used a cotton with a little of hydrogen peroxide (for wounds and not in the same night I applied the antiperspirant treatment deodorant). And of course my mental health treatment helped a lot. But all worked! I still sweat, Brazil is hot. And I can stink a little if I don't use the deodorant (Herbíssimo in cream ❤️) , but is so much less! I feel healed! Sorry for the long comment!

There was a guy in residence at university who smelled so bad, everyone talked about it behind his back. He really did smell that bad, underarm stench. One night I got up the nerve to talk to him personally about it, I had a few drinks and brought it up. He didn't realize it was bad he said and went to the dr. He was wearing deodorant so he wasn't sure why it would still smell. He came to me a week later and thanked me, he had some issue where only a certain deodorant would work. I use benzoyl peroxide for 2-3min and then soap in the shower every day, I use deodorant twice a day, I soak my shirts and bras in Oxiclean for 12-24 hours before washing in enzyme detergent, and my scrub tops (work clothes) get the soak PLUS a wash in special activewear enzyme detergent PLUS a second wash in regular enzyme detergent. I switched to a cream deodorant that washes off my skin and out of my clothes instead of trapping odor like waxy formulas did. I'm vegetarian and I rarely drink. I'm still stinky fairly often, especially when I work up a sweat in my synthetic fiber scrubs. However, every single thing I've listed here has helped, and when I skip even one step, I notice that my body odor gets really bad again. The only thing I won't do is go back to antiperspirant. I switched to an AHA deodorant without antiperspirant a couple years ago and my hydradentis supparativa completely went away in my underarms. I think that letting my sweat glands "breathe" and the exfoliation are responsible!

BENZOYL PEROXIDE PSA: If you have hair under your arms, benzoyl peroxide will soak up inside the hair, and then particularly when you sweat to any minor degree, it will come out and bleach whatever touches there (shirts, bedding, etc.). This is something you never hear, because the people talking about it (on youtube) are generally all people who shave under their arms, it's just a giant collective blind-spot they have. I did that for years. The alternative I have been using for a couple weeks now is The Ordinary glycolic acid 7% toner. I don't smell at all for at least 3 days, sometimes 5-6 (I don't sweat very much at all throughout the day). Apply it liberally, I use a spray bottle to dry skin, and then pat it in. Don't breath it in. I reapply at MOST once every 3 days, still figuring it out there. It will likely be a bit sticky, but the next morning you could wipe it off with a wet towel, or just wait till your next shower and then the days after will be more comfy, though it's not that bad.

I have 2 clients who have this. I feel so bad for the. Trimethylaminuria (TMAU) is an uncommon condition that causes an unpleasant, fishy smell. It's also called "fish odour syndrome". Sometimes it's caused by faulty genes that a person inherits from their parents, but this isn't always the case. There's currently no cure, but there are things that can help.

Sometime ago, I read that some people don't stink, at least not in the underarm area, due to their genetics. They also tend to have dry earwax. I thought that was interesting.

Our fam isn’t prone to smelly pits. It takes days where others take hours to produce their ripe smell. They’re Asian (far east). Heard that’s more common there. Same with the earwax.

You frequently mention ingredients in products that can be potential allergens. I've don't recall hearing you mention an issue with benzoyl peroxide. As someone with a severe benzoyl peroxide allergy (itching, swelling of face, eyes swelling almost shut, blisters on whites of eyes), I'm wondering how common it is.

Dr. Dray could you please address a smelly scalp/smelly hair? 🙏🏻 One of my sons has this (age 19)..his body does not smell at all, no body odor, but his head has that 'old man smell'. He uses a prescription shampoo from our dermatologist but it is not helping. I have not been back to the dermatologist because they acted like I was crazy and pretended they couldn't smell anything. 😞 It is very strong and his siblings can smell it as well. His entire bedroom smells like it. I'm not sure what to do! He showers daily, sometimes twice a day. The smell remains in his bedsheets no matter how many times I wash them. ☹️ I would be so grateful if you had any recommendations I could try.❤

I use apple cider vinegar (ACV) on my hair to pull off all the build up from shampoo and conditioners. You don’t need a lot to rub into to the scalp. I do it once a month. He may need a few more than that. If you do try it make sure he holds his head back so it doesn’t get in his eyes. My hair feels amazing and clean afterwards. ACV also helps with smelly feet and other body parts. I hope it helps someone.
