@@danger450 This statement is both true and false. While the intrinsic value of $100k is $100k. However, the value given to it differs from person to person, depending on their given financial circumstance and other potential factors. For example: a highly nutritious meal to an average person is fine, but give to some who had not eaten food for a week may prove fatal. The sudden introduction of excessive nutrients after having not eaten for days is ill-advised, as it most likely will cause refeeding syndrome. This is why gorging food after several days of no food is a bad idea. So while one thing can hold the same intrinsic value, how it is valued from person to person isn't always the same. Also, you may have missed the joke.

Solid picks but i’ll swap the miata with a 996 gt3. Seems way overbudget but i’ve found a work around : 1. Lincoln town car from a used fleet (there is an rcr video of it, you can get it for 1900$) 2. Toyota 4runner Sr5, one sold just recently on cars n bids for 5500$ 3. 996 gt3, high milage (70k miles), 85-90000$ No late model cars but i think i got all bases covered.

The Viper is my dream car. I could stop right there. I tried to get one several years ago. It was a 2004 or 2005 from a seller in CT. If I remember correctly, it had ~13K miles and was selling for ~$35K. The jerk seller never answered my e-mails. One day I will own one.

UKs a bit different and so are the values so I'm gonna limit myself to £80,000. First choice Lexus ISF around £25,000 for a nice one. Second choice the daily driver Skoda Octavia vrs estate, you can get a very nice one for £15,000. Third choice Jaguar F Type R, around £35,000. The remaining £5,000 would cover car tax and insurance. The only thing I'm missing is an AWD car for winter but for the Skoda should be able to handle it.

Good solid picks. This was actually pretty difficult as a lot of cars are relatively expensive these days, especially brand new. If it was brand new, I'd pick Toyota GR Yaris, Mazda MX-5 and Dacia Jogger, which just barely fits within the £80,000 limit. Second hand, it's still tricky because there's such a huge range of choices. I'd go for Toyota Supra for £42,000, BMW 128ti for £27,000 and Suzuki Ignis for £10,000.

The s class was my favorite, but the check engine light was on since new and mercedes could never fix it. The 7 was like driving anything else on the road. The lexus is the best choice, hands down, no questions asked. I will say the XJ was gorgeous and classy inside and out, when ford owned jaguar they should have put the town car drive train in it vs jaguar trash in all of the ford's. Along the lines of the SS, I’m surprised the Kia Stinger didn’t make either list as a daily driver. A decent top trim GT from 4 years ago is $30kish… but with Kia’s warranty, it still has 6 years and ~60k miles of warranty left. That’s better than many new cars. It leaves a lot of budget to play with.

The Fiesta is a great daily that’s also fun and gets 33mpg highway. And the Focus RS is a fun weekend car that’s AWD and comes with 350hp but can easily be tuned to 400+whp.

Alanis's list is entirely composed of impractical vehicles, even the sedan. The Miata is a great choice but there should be something in there with a hatch like a sporty wagon or something that is useful. The SS is just another fast but limited use vehicle, unless her husband has an actual useful vehicle in his stable. Doug's list at least has an almost sort of useful vehicle with the Mercedes. Alanis, just get the Karnival and get it over with.

A guy’s gotta pick stuff up from Home Depot. 1986 Buick Grand National - $35k for a solid driver example and it’s quick enough for me on the road, and it’s just cool. First year with the intercooler and you get 90% of the GNX performance for a fraction of the price. Honestly, if you want to : $1500 crown vic / town car (need to find one at fleet auctions) $3500-$4000 4runner (found some “decent” on autotempest) $4500-$5000 mx5 miata (negotiate 5k listings) All these are obviously high milages, poor exterior/interior conditions, but runs and drives.

Interesting thought excercise. My 3 current cars cost me roughly $125k. 2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon, 2019 Genesis G70 3.3T, and 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Ultimate. Not sure I would buy the same 3 cars if I bought all at once with a new budget. Would at least ditch the Hyundai for a Miata. Not sure of the wife would appreciate me selling her car though.

If you want a viper, get a 2nd gen. 2nd gens have an aftermarket and you can fix its problems. Own a 2nd gen for 5 years and its a great car to drive slow or fast.

I agree with this but I will say if you have the money definitely get a Gen 5 and if you can chose the GTS is the way to go. But I do have a biased opinion on Gen 4s as well. Both generations are incredible cars

For me, it will be a very mildly crappy 240z with 5 speed short ratio(15k) for that special weekend drive, a S211 E55 AMG wagon(30k) for road trips and hauling stuff, and a FL5 Civic Type R(55k?) as a reliable daily and canyon weapon under warrenty. Close enough to 100k

I added a difficulty level: $CAN instead of $US. For me, that’d be a spanking new GR86 (41 000 $CAN), a really in shape AWD manual Honda Element (18 000 $CAN) and…wait for it…a really in shape BMW i3S REx for my fuel sipping car (around 30 000 $CAN). With what’s left, I’d fill my garage with all the Element spare parts I could find.

I've given this a lot of thought over the years and have come up with my perfect 3 car garage. The cars are pretty specific (two are modded in specific ways) but this is my dream so... 1) Early (round tail light) BMW 2002 (or 1600) with an S14*, 5 speed and upgraded brakes and suspension. 2) Mercedes W123 wagon. (and here's where I piss of the purists) With an LS and 6spd manual (along with commensurate brake and suspension upgrades). 3) Steyr-Puch Pinzgauer 710M. Only mods are at least an electronic ignition upgrade (if not a full on EFI upgrade). And maybe some more comfortable seats. I think all 3 could be had for just under 100k. Worst case the W123 would have to be less modded. *That's BMW S14, not Nissan ... so basically the drive-train from an E30M3

My grandma had a white 2002tii for 22 years. It was a second gen, with squared rear lights. She managed to rack up 200.000km, (some 130ish thousands miles), without any major issue outside of regular maintenance. I drove it only twice because a range rover rear ended and totaled the car when I was 19 and there was no fixing it, it was a really bad accident, totalling the range and another car involved. Luckily my grandmother walked out of that almost unscathed, but the car was completely demolished. I vividly remember the driving experience to this day: that thing was actively trying to kill you every time you pushed the throttle down more than 20-30% and every time a single drop of rain was falling from the sky, but if you could handle that, it was very, very, very rewarding. I always dreamed about getting one for myself, but I barely fit (I'm 6'3), they are very old now and very rare, so I don't know if I'd ever drive get to drive one again. Still, great choice.

@@12gark Your grandmother is cooler than most. I've owned two late (square tail light) 2002s over the years, a '75 and a '76. I'd gladly take either one of them back at this point.
