I’m not rich and I’m also very young but I’ll have you know the average price of a new car in the US is now $48,000. All that gets you is some kind of mid level boring crossover or minivan or something. 50k for some kind of fun enthusiast level car by comparison IS cheap. Of course you can get something good for much less but $50,000 for a car isn’t as special as it was even just 10 years ago…

Interesting video,Doug! My truly guilty pleasure of all time is that I still love and want my first car back. 1966 Corvair Corsa, with the four one barrels. I loved it and would still have it ,if I hadn't backed up between two vacuums at a car wash, fast, only to realize, to late that there were three vacuums on concrete stands. Made a 90 degree dent in the rear deep nuff it shoved the engine almost into back seat. It was an aquamarine with white convertible top. No other car ever sounded as sweet!

Mini-vans absolutely make the list. You can keep your dumb Maybach or three row SUVs. A mini-van is the ultimate car for hauling your buddies around and then getting a stack of 4x8 plywood home from the store dry. The only reason 90% of F150 owners don't have a Minivan is out of embarrassment.

This issue is country wide, just different cars. You could take any type of person and there is a version who is not paying attention to the road. You go to the suburbs and it's moms in big SUVs texting, or In the city it's guys in suits texting while in their BMWs. Grandma is still driving her Toyota Avalon talking on her phone because she can't work the Bluetooth. Each is wrong and just as dangerous.

Kia Carnival is in the vein of a good minivan, which folks put down as a soccer mom car or what not but they carry a ton of stuff in relative comfort, easy to load, lots of them have features like fold away storage, easy to maneuver, so I get that. Hummer EV also a great pick, and it's miles per gallon equivalent on highway is the same as a Ford Maverick hybrid, which is just terrible for an EV, the F150 Lightning has about 50% better efficiency...the F150 lightning! But the Hummer is what is was designed to be. I think my picks would be a Chevy SSR, it's a convertible truck that's not too good at either but looks super cool, or maybe like a Challenger Demon 170, which I think they measure gallons per mile instead of miles per gallon on it.😅

My guilty pleasure car is a Nissan Versa with a CVT. I had one as a rental a couple years ago, I drove the piss out of it and I had an absolute blast. I'm not sure I get Alanis' definition of a guilty pleasure you know if it's something you want but don't need, isn't that just the definition of wanting something 🤔 sure, I don't need a 911 GT3 RS but like h3ll I want one ❤️😩 However, I like her way of being practical even in the hypothetical to stay true to herself, I am just like her in that sense :) Also, my Guilty Pleasure are 4 cilinder sports cars, not like a GR 86 or MX-5 that were made to have a 4 cil. engine but like a Mustang Ecoboost or 2.0L Camaro, specially if they are automatic! (Yes, the auto GR 86 and MX-5 count in this case) Because they are just so weird, they go so hard against the essence of their name yet, each of their brands still try with all seriousness to make something fun, and I kinda love them for that quirkiness 😂

My guilty pleasure is my father-in-law's 1968 Nissan (Datsun) Pickup. Hopelessly underpowered, the gearbox takes about a week to shift so whatever revs you've been able to muster are gone before it slides into a gear, half the trim has fallen off and the fuel pump tends to overheat, and it jumps around in a cartoonish manner. Oh, and the steering, you just try to point in a general direction you want to go. Three-point turning is worth an hour's cardio. I should hate this car, and yet I find it so endearing and fun.

My guilty pleasure is the 2nd gen Scion xB. So many hate it. I love it. I love the boxy looks. I love space and practicality that so many cars seem to miss now adays.

My biggest guilty pleasure car is the Ford Excursion. I'm generally anti SUV and will never ever get an SUV in my life, I'd even rather not own a car with rear doors. But it's so over the top that I just have to like it. The second one is the new Toyota Sequoia Capstone. For almost the same reasons, but adding to that the fact it's a powerful hybrid and that it's very technological and also luxurious like a Lexus making it incognito in the process. That's exactly the opposite of my optimal car, which is any 2 door car that weighs under 3000lbs without almost any computerized digital bullshit, but that Sequoia is so opposite it makes me love it

Hey Doug love your videos, your content is really in depth and it’s great because it set me on the path to change from someone who knew fuck all about cars to someone that actually has a clue now lol. Could you please do a video on the mk5 honda prelude for an upcoming video? They’re like the middle child that got overlooked out of the 90s-early 2000s cars and they have a lot of character especially the mk4

I am 100% with Alanis on her rationale for these. There are lots of sports cars I can't justify -even some I've owned that were guilty pleasures because they were outright impractical. My guilty pleasure car equivalent to the minivan for Alanis is a Chrysler 300 with a long wheelbase (not a limo). I want someone to drive me around in that. No idea why. Buuut I'll stick with my 23 year old Dakota

Funny enough, my favorite corvette gen is the C4. I loved mine when I owned it; it was very quirky, was super engaging to drive, looked quite exotic and had a great sounding manual V8. They’re underrated in my opinion.

I always had a soft spot for the Prowler. It came out when I was 10 and someone in my neighborhood had one years later. Always enjoyed seeing it when he left the garage door open. And I always preferred the C4 over all the other Corvettes up until the C7. It has the best styling to my eye. Got to drive one once, automatic unfortunately, but learned I barely fit and my dreams died.
