I envy that lady, what a lovely way to travel- sat on the back of a narrowboat with two warm dogs on your knee. 😊😊🐶

What a beautiful canal. I look forward to seeing your journey. I am in California and between the heat,( it hit 101 last week and I live in the mountains)and the fires, it feels like we live in you know where. Add to that the riots and the pandemic and you can see why I watch narrowboat videos. LOL!!!! Breathing is difficult with all the smoke right now and there is no sign of autumn. Still in the 80s this week. It looks so refreshing where you are. Hope I get to take a trip to your beautiful country one day.

wonderful Gary - at last! hubby's a bit worried about Chip and Dale being shut in the boat through locks having watched a narrowboat sinking within 2 minutes (on line) - he was so shocked. I told him you are well aware of cills!

Gary, you're living a dream for many of us who, for whatever reason cannot. If I was at least ten years young, I would have my order in for a new narrowboat of my dreams. Keep that great smile on and Stay Safe.

Smashing Vlog. And a great start to pastures new. I'm one of those people who are mainly stuck near home because of a disability and because of that I doubly enjoy travelling with you on Chugs. All the best Gary. Enjoy your cruise I know I will. Stephen.

I think I'm going to enjoy this journey almost as much as you are. My memories will kick in once you get to the Prees arm - that's as far east as we got before turning back. Even though it was peak time last year the canal didn't seem terribly busy with no queues or congestion anywhere and even got a mooring on the popular Ellesmere arm! Has the virus meant all the hire boats are flat out cruising now, having been idle over the last 2 or 3 months of summer. It's great to see you enjoying life like a kid with a new toy!

Hi bud, its hire boat central. I'm not knocking them as they keep the cut alive but they're simply not trained
@garydye42704 жыл бұрын
You're right in that the training is minimal. Both times we've hired, operating a lock was skimmed over using a little wooden model and for driving/steering the boat they basically said there's nothing to it - you'll learn as you go, which is true enough. The major difference for hirers is that time is at a premium. Mistakes can escalate quite quickly if travelling too fast. Even so, we had no 'incidents' either ourselves or with private or other hire boaters. With your patience and positive attitude, you should really love the Llangollen. It's not about the destination; it's all about the journey.

Hi gary, john in New Zealand, you know me for watching you for a long time on the cut. Nelson is where I have a counselling practice. you are doing a great job and the past haunts and hurts for a while. but to move forward you need to leave the past behind you my friend otherwise you could stagnate. Blessings to you Gary. Kaiora mai tatau 8-)

I am not certain of your back story but one thing I am catching on is your grief from past event(s)...For me something that really helps is to allow that grief or emotion to come like a wave, but let it go too, be sad but then let it go or release it...if that makes sense. That really helped me to keep enjoying experiences, I love your VLOG, thank you for sharing your time with us....And hopefully my snippet (unsolicited) was ok to share....cheers to you :)

Where I live in the states we had 419 miles of canal that was cut by Irish immigrants back in the early 1800's and opened for service in 1848. It spans across two states. Illinois and Michigan. Use of the canal seized back in 1933. A good part of the canals are over grown swamp or dried up due to most of the locks being no longer functional. Unfortunately, a third of the canal was filled in to make the Illinois 55 motorway. 96 miles of the canal and locks have been restored over the last 30 years, but it is now considered a National Historic Landmark. The canals have the I&M trust, but all they want to do is turn everything into a non-functional museum. They don't allow anything in the canals bigger than the size of a canoe...so no narrowboat for me. :(

Thanks! In America...think about it, "civilization" here is only ~250 years old. You have so much rich history to admire. Most sadly, American is struggling even keeping any of our short history, we have movements to eradicate it all. Enjoy my friend .

Great to realise dreams, I realised mine by taking my boat over the aqueduct taken me 23 years to get there ! Nice see you earlier even if it was in a big old queue through the Chirk Tunnel. It’s as busy a canal as I have been on ..... so many hire boats, everyone enjoying themselves, I hope your trip is good and memories made.
