Hi! Love your videos:) but I've got a question about that example you've given to us cause I cannot wrap my head around this... the equation you've provided us with doesn't seem right in order to work out the original price... if the final price was $40 because you subtracted 40% of the original price I think you cannot do what you told us to do? as it would give us $100 of the original price and 40% off $100 is $60, not $40. So the client would then tell us that this handbag cost $60 after the discount if that would be true. Therefore, from what you're saying the $40 is not the final price, only a discounted amount subtracted from the original price... But if $40 would be the final price of the handbag after the discount then you could work the original price out by (original price) - ( 40% of the original price) = $40 so then we can say that the original price is x so it would be 1X - 0.4X = $40 0.6X = $40/ 1/0.6 X = $40/0.6 X = $66.666 and that would be our original price but not using your equation as from your equation the original price would equal $100 and so the final price after the discount would equal $60... But probably I'm doing something wrong :p ...so is it possible for you to explain it to me if I'm not right, please? :)

Thanks for the very informative video! Not sure if you've answered this somewhere already - but when you left public accounting at the big 4 for industry, what made you go back into public accounting at a mid tier firm?
@dsk82508 жыл бұрын
Also, can you please expand on why exactly the hours are so long in big 4 firm during busy season? What takes up most of the time? Are you generally busy on the daily during busy season or are there certain weeks where you're just busier than normal? I remember watching your video where you mentioned you worked up to about 100 hrs a week, so are there multiple weeks like that or what is usually the hrs per week during busy season? (Generally speaking from the associate/senior level) Thank you!!

If you did not get a job offer from Big 4 after graduation what would you do to get hired from Big 4?
@itsamandalau8 жыл бұрын
Desmond lough Hey, so few of my classmates graduated without any Big 4 offers last May but they were successful in landing Big 4 positions this recruiting season. So my advice for you is to apply again. Public accounting firms will be recruiting again this January so look out for that. If that fails, you can wait for recruiting season nex fall. There are other alternatives such as working for a non Big 4 first and then getting hired by the Big 4 as an experienced hire.
@michellei.61867 жыл бұрын
Normally your school partners with one big four so try attending their recruiting events. Remember if you don't work for the Big 4, it's not the end of the world. There is better opportunities out there than the Big 4

Great video, I have a another question & if anyone else wants to add their opinion feel free to. So would you say accounting is female dominant job or it's about equal with both genders? Currently doing my 2nd year of college (19yrs old) & just wondering if this is the right field to go into
@mars24598 жыл бұрын
hmmm, tbh back when i was in school it was 50/50 guys & girls. but now that I'm working (in industry), it's majority women, lol!!! BUT, there's more guys in management role tho... soooo.... :)

Don't be afraid. Try to build your resume with things related to accounting or skills that will help you build your career in accounting. Just keep applying for internships or jobs. Try to get your foot in the door.

Jeffrey Preston It’s never too late if you want to go further in the accounting career. The CPA license could take you far in this career. Is a business administration degree with a concentration on accounting the same as just a regular accounting degree?
@mars24598 жыл бұрын
yes, it should give u enough units to sit for the exam, but not to get licensed. In most states u need 150u which is equivalent to a Masters degree. Check your state requirements. Each state has different requirements tho.

Great video as always!! I'm really interested in audit (specially external audit) and I definitely like it more than taxes. I'm not sure about the lifestyle though. Family is really important for me and I want to have kids and spend time with my family. I feel like in audit I would be too much time away from home and wouldn't have a structured calendar but at the same time it's really what I'm most interested in. I'm also an introvert person. Do you have any tips for making this decision in my career path? What should I do and what should I take into account for making this decision? What was this process like for you? Do you know anyone in a similar position as me, and how did he/she ended up deciding on it? Thanks for everything!! Love you!!

Also, I'll have an interview with one of the big 4 soon. How is it different from a regular interview? Do you have any tips? Thanks!!
@559harbir8 жыл бұрын
valeb410 I actually interviewed at both mid tear and big 4 firms. It's honestly not much different than a mid tear interview. The questions they ask are very similar. The only difference is the second round of interviews. The second round mid tear interviews are usually another interview in office where you meet more office members. Big 4 second rounds are usually a day long even including a dinner or lunch and more social events. Depending on which level you're joining it, this may be different. I'm speaking specifically from a staff level.

Harbir Atwal Thank you!!! I'm a bit scared about this interview because I'm still a student and I've never worked at companies like these. All my previous jobs were like in a store at a mall and stuff like that. I'm just trying to prepare for it the best I can. Thank you so much!
@559harbir8 жыл бұрын
valeb410 I know the feeling! I interviewed while in school as well a year ago on campus and it was so nerve racking! I had no experience either besides a small internship but just made sure I had a killer resume and tried to smile and show my interest as much as I could during the interview. Just be yourself! I personally am a quiet person (hence why I chose tax haha) but I made sure I played myself up during the interviews and it seemed to work! I got second round interviews for all 8 firms I interviewed with! Good luck! If there's any specific questions you have feel free to ask!

It's been a year since I've graduated with my accounting degree. I've interview with a few different companies but was not qualified enough to land the positions. Any tips Or suggestions on what to do next? At this point I'm thinking of applying for an internship just to get some experience. Thanks ! Ps. Love your videos !

+Amy Kong I would definitely look for internships to get some experience. The job market is super saturated so I think it would help. Try networking, maybe through the alumni network at your university. You might have a better chance if you know someone at the company. Wishing you luck!

LinkedIn is a great resource for you to find a job. If you haven’t had one yet, I strongly suggest to have one. Networking now is really important in the job searching process. You have higher chance to get hired for the job if someone introduces you to the company.

Stephanie, Your so amazing, you have style, class, and grace. I love how you are willing to share you knowledge and experience with us accounting newbies. I look forward to these Q&A vlogs as you always seem to give great advice. I live in New Mexico and just graduated with my associates in accounting and I feel so lost. Mind you I am not going to a traditional college, I am attending online, and am taking 18 credits while working 25 hours a week. I really want to find a job in my area I just have no clue what to look for. At this point as you stated I just want to work and get myself out there.

@CPACareerPaths4 жыл бұрын
It depends on your personality and future plan. They are different. It’s an individual opinion about which one is better. I had an opportunity to do both and I like both of them. However, I ended up with audit. 😉
