Dream Meanings: Dreams and Visions Of The Dying

When death is imminent, we often look for signs. What does the dying process look like? What are the signs of death? End of life is not easy, but there can be some comfort found.
Dr. Christopher Kerr is a hospice doctor and Chief Medical Officer at Hospice and Palliative Care Buffalo. Over the years, patients would share their dreams experiences with him. There was a sense of calm and comfort in these patients as they recollected seeing people who had died before them.
Dr. Kerr started to document these hospice patients and ask them about their dreams. Though they are near death, they are still lucid and clearly not hallucinating. Some start to have these dreams weeks before their passing so this is not a dying brain that is seeing these images.
My mother passed away a few months ago. This interview was filmed before her death and now rewatching it, I find some comfort in know that perhaps there is something after this life. We will never know until we cross over but it does provide some solace.

My father died of colon cancer . In his last days in home he said to my mother (I saw myself on another world .. soon i will leave you behind) then he died within two days. Your conversation is so nice helpful fascinating... thank you from Saudi Arabia. My uncle also was looking to the window when he came close to death as if he sees something joyful .

I have Dr. Kerr's book. It is wonderful. He is such a fantastic, reaffirming writer--so generous, keeping the text so hopeful. You can see in this video how kind he is, how comforting, how open-minded, and how he is such a wonderful listener. The idea that the people "who loved you right" come back to you, at the end, when hope seemingly would fade--that takes some of the fear of death away for me. Maybe not fear--I don't think death scares me so much as presents itself as something of a loss of physicality and intellectual capability--so maybe I'm not talking about death, but the lead up to it. But now I see that as Tennyson says, "Death closes all: but something ere the end,/Some work of noble note, may yet be done," and that the work is to hope, that there's something to look forward to in the winding down, and that's reuniting with those we've loved and lost. Thank you, Dr. Kerr. This has been my favorite Modern Aging video.

Ive spend some time in an hospitalbed due to complications after a stomach surgery. And I was laying in the middle bed in the 3 bed room. And in the left bed there was an elderly woman. I've only heard her, never saw her. She did cry for her mother from morning to evening. And then there was a change in her breathing, and suddenly with a totally surprised voice she almost whispered daddy!!! And then a strange breathing sound and no more sounds at all. I rang for the nurse ofc because I understood that something was wrong. And the nurse came and almost chaos brake loose. They took the ladies bed out in a hurry and after an hour or something the nurse came back to me, said she was sorry but the lady did die and the nurse apologised that they didn't moved her much earlier. The staff hadnt realised that she was sooo sick and near death. But I have this memory close in my heart because now I'm convinced that someone will come for us when it's time to leave!!! My other personal experience is when my father was taken to hospital due to pain in a hip. We thought it was pain from a thigh replacement surgery so we didn't even consider cancer but it was. A huge cancer had eaten his hip away, no wonder that he was in such pain... But however when he was in the hospital he saw several persons and asked me and other visitors who was in the hallway, or who was standing in the corner and so on...ofc we couldn't see anyone. And when he passed the hospice staff made a huge mistake and didn't call me so I could sit with him while he was passing over. I live 1 hour cardrive away from the hospice. But the boss was so so so sorry and apologised to me. And when I said that I was so sad to have missed him passing one of the nurses said but YOU were here, because my father said so. He had seen me there that last day! So mysterious enough I comfort myself with that info, he thought I was there and that is what I have now!!! So that's what I have as personal experiences. And a few days after he had passed I was in my bed and my husband was in the living room and I told him that I was jealous of him because he had seen my father a few times and my father hadn't shown him self to me. Then suddenly I hear a whispering *hey*! It was his voice and it made me calm in my body aswell in my soul. I know he's watching over me and I think that our souls lives on somewhere else after this earthlife.... And im sorry for my crappy english, I'm Swedish and english isn't my first language. And it's hard to describe such hard and rough memories in another language... So take care all and give love as much as you can because you'll never know how long your relatives will stay with you. My father went from dignose to passing, due to lungcancer with metastatic all over his body, in only 6 weeks!!! Take care and viritual hugs from Sweden

Hold everyone you'll all get your turn to experience the great equalizer call death which is quite natural. And those left behind will hear your story. They will either dismiss it or treat it with respect. Death is just a transition from form into another.
