Bass players are like the tight rope when someone is walking across it. You don't really pay that close attention to it when you're watching, but when it's suddenly gone. Yeah, you fuckin' notice.

lol Mr Myung has an air about him like "Ok, done that bit. What you got for me next Mr Petrucci?". Kinda looks like he's thinking about what he's maybe gonna have for dinner later - such a natural, laid-back player.

I as a drummer am impressed that both of John and John remember all the notes to songs like this. There is no real pattern to make it easy to remember but still, they are spot on. Impressive

Can't say I'm the biggest fan of their work overall, but you'd have to be mental or lying to say that isn't a masterclass in musicianship right there. All virtuosos in their instruments and one of the best displays I've ever seen.

This is the first Dream Theatre track I’ve listened to. I was always a massive Yes and Genesis fan, and I always said what’s the point of playing so fast if you can’t hear the notes. Well I heard every one of those, from the whole band. Insane musicianship and multi layered composition. I don’t really know what to say other than that was amazing!
@nazirkazi2588 Жыл бұрын
Yes are amazing, not been into Genesis much (maybe, yet).. and then Dreamtheater.. they are musically evolved. There are issues with songs where the balance between musicianship and musicality is skewed.. but that's the price. They're honest and accomplished, people playing and pushing themselves. Always a joy.

Fucking awesome song! Love the whole Metropolis album! I think it's their best! I can't believe it took me so long to explore this progressive metal band. I usually listen to older stuff like classic rock, progressive rock, blues-rock, psychedelic rock, jazz, blues, old rhythm and blues, classical, and metal.... Took me some time to find this great band. Love progressive metal.

I've finally found the secret behind John Myungs secret behind not getting the cramp over all cramps in his hand. He uses three fingers instead of two!
@MrTheMark2111 жыл бұрын
No good bassist only use 2 fingers...
@nicolettaleonardi11 жыл бұрын
MrTheMark21 no true at all, many mainly use two other than in very fast situations which this genre implies. Just think of Jaco Pastorius for example

MrTheMark21 Sorry, but a bassist is not just good when he is fast, he has to serve the band. For example a jazz bassist doesn't always need 3 fingers... I don't know if you say that steve harris isn't a good bass player?
@menotyou71711 жыл бұрын
Damnut chaps, this wasnt a comment about what defines a good bassist. This was a comment stating the fact that if you use three fingers instead of two you wont get a bloody cramp when playing fast shit for a long time

For a few years I thought the "live at Budokan" was recorded in a studio. It was my first DT album and I didn't pay attention to the title, I just assumed it is done in a studio because it's so perfect.
@AlexPerevod10 жыл бұрын
it was actually re-recorded in studio. check out the sound and vid at 4:20... yes, drums are live, as well as probably 80% of other instruments, but anyway I was disappointed when I realized they re-recorded this "live" concert
@alanyuen68010 жыл бұрын
I guess it's understandable if they only "touch-up" the sound, or maybe even "borrow" the sound from a different concert. If they haven't, John's mistake would have really stood out in the album.

"The Dance Of Eternity", is a 6 minute long instrumental on the "Metropolis Pt2: Scenes From A Memory" album, it has 128 time changes, this isn't The Dance Of Eternity. This is /watch?v=dsvRBxPYC6E
@cameodamaneo10 жыл бұрын
I can't tell who's saying what so I'm just going to put my own two cents worth in. Yes, Instrumedley does have Dance of eternity in it, but this is because Instrumedley is a MEDLEY (hence its name). The Dance of eternity is something entirely different to the song that is played on this video.

This is the best sounding concert and i must say best looking Dreamtheater out there. I Loved the Grey Yamaha JM2 Bass and it sounded great, The guitars were defined and the keyboards were in the pocket......... It was Perfect. I feel the bass dynamic is lost now with the musicman and the drums just dont sound powerful anymore. whats happening ?. Im glad i have this on blueray .
@AtomizedSound7 ай бұрын
Is a good mix but concerts vary due to a number of factors. I do agree with some points such as bass but maybe the new (old) iteration of DT will bring some of the stuff back from this era of live performances
