Dream Theater - Learning to Live (Time Signature Walk Through)

I get asked a lot about odd time signatures and so, I've decided to use one of my favourite sections from Dream Theater's Learning to Live, to give you guys an insight into what goes through my mind when playing Odd Time Signatures.

At some point it just becomes muscle memory with you only needing to count a few bars that are more difficult than the rest until them also become muscle memory as well

Hmm why not 4/4 at 0.30 and where the keyboard solo is?

That’s also possible, I think the beauty of this is depending on the instrument you are playing, you will count it in your own time signature. In the case of the drums during 0:30 sec, the feel is 6/8 for me. I can see why you are feeling it as 4/4.

Because of the triplet feel (also it makes way more sense to write in 6 than write in 4 with triplets). Also pretty sure the official sheet música are in 6

Sorry for the dumb question, but why sometimes the time signature is displayed in red? Amazing vid.!

I believe it's to indicate where the next beat starts. So if he's doing a lick in 6/8 and hits that 6 and has to do another 6/8 right after, the first would be white then red. If I'm wrong then my bad.
