@@pmarionHOMEVIDS Portnoy was great and I really do love their Portnoy-era stuff...but really, his drum parts all start to sound the same. There wasn't a lot of variety to his drumming. Mangini does so many creative things in his parts, and a ton of it is sneaky difficult!

Manginis' groove in this song is brilliant, I thought so from when I first heard the album, and live it's just even better, because it's more of an improvised piece from his point of view so he just goes with the flow each night and plays what he's feeling (to an extent of course). His feel at 3:07 ish is so groovy it's on of my favourite parts of all their live shows.
@pmarionHOMEVIDS3 жыл бұрын
I think the issue with the album is that they totally buried Mangini’s drum parts. In the live show, everyone else has to turn it up to 11 to match Mangini’s power and presence. They really need to just remaster the whole album to match the live performances.

And not only that, but a gorgeous vocal harmony that I had no idea was there is suddenly revealed - listen to him singing ''gold mine'' part, that was tremendous!
