When he sings in the lower range he still sounds pretty good, it’s the high range that hurts to listen to.

I adore this song. Dream Theater is amazing. But why can't you show Myung playing his sweet, sweet bass even on bits where he plays alone? Christ's sake at 3:09 his has a fill and they cut to the kit!

If you replaced the guitars and synths with a piano and strings you’d get Celine Dion.
@goncalosilva15658 ай бұрын
The problem these years was Mike Mangini drum were not powered enough like Portnoy. Always sounds almost like a midi drum track, we went to do the drum with so many techniques and full of notes that the groove was forgotten. That's why, Portnoy made the songs always sound more powerful without half the effort and notes.
@sistinamusic7 ай бұрын
Just enjoy the music for once!!

I don't think it was his fault how they sounded on the albums. Most likely the other members like JP who wanted them to sound that way.
@Raftof4 ай бұрын
If you're drummer you will know mike mangini skill is far above portnoy. I love portnoy but if you can play drum you will just know it

A mi me gusta que haya variedad en el sonido. Que canciones como Breaking All Illussions suenen diferente cada vez que graban en vivo, es lo que me gusta.
@Wicho06013 ай бұрын
The problem is that during the Mangini era, all the production (and that includes the final drum sound) was by John Petrucci. Unlike when Portnoy was there, they both supervised the mixes and obviously Portnoy had a very great weight in that area.
