his buffer was probably too high, when he tried to lower his voice we all couldnt hear shit. super sad. also at the start of the show you could tell he was on something, he just threw words to the air and he himself said he dosen't know what the hell he was saying

You are in serious fucking denial if you defend James' live vocals these days, because they are absolutely horrendous. Nowadays he has fewer and fewer live moments where he sounds *okay* and the majority of the time it's just painful. JP and JR (who I believe are in charge?) really need to do the right thing and either confine DT to the studio, if they wish to continue DT, or end it. Unless of course they intend on completely ignoring the degradation of James' voice and destroying what voice he has left, by insisting on continuing to play live. The rest of the guys sound great here though, it seems JP is doing real backing vocals again if I'm hearing correctly, which is nice! It's not entertaining anymore listening to James struggle to sing to a half decent standard.

I get it now. James has lost his mid range. That sucks 😔 Watch mark slaughter with Slaughter. He’s in the same boat. He can sing low and highs, but his mid range is gone. Damn. That sucks James! The rest of this tour is gonna be killing him 😢

@@bairrock42 Well the highs James lost all ready long time ago. And losing the mid range has been in development more than 10 years. Only low chest voice is left. So unfortunately. What is he good for... when Petrucci basically could sing his parts better (even he is not the one who should sing). But the James is not going anywhere any time soon, since he knows how much he sucks nowadays and no other band would pick him up. Rest of the band doesn't want to kick him either since for them he is part of the family. They don't have loyalty to the fans. They wouldn't care less about the fans who are suffering because they still have ears. They know that the old fans (which are nowadays classified as "toxic-fans") will be replaced by new fans who have no ears, so problem solved and money still comes in.

I absolutely love his last studio album last year and his live performance until 2017 (with Amazing year like 2004, 2005 and 2012,2014) I listen hundreds of bootlegs and live performance and i will attend at the dt concert next week. With all the sadness in my heart, i will prefer that he will decide by himself to retire from live performances with dream theater. He still have an Amazing voice for studio album, maybe he can focus the final part of his career on the solo album . We have ears, he obviously cannot sing the difficult stuff from the past. He is sixty and he is human.

I just don’t understand the point in playing something like grand finale - you know James can’t sing it. I’m sure the band and james can’t be that oblivious. Just play something more manageable and make it easier on him.

If JBL was singing ok, it wouldn't be covering the fact of how bad Mangini actually is for these kind of songs. Some of the symbals in solitary shell were arrangements but he used them as just metronomes to keep counting the tempo. His approach is so robotic and souless for such deep and emotional songs and lyrics. Sad, just sad.
