Dream Theater fan since uff..., I know almost every song of them. My point is: James Labrie doesn`t know how to sing. Everyone can sing spectacular in studio, but live es another dimension. Reach a high note is not singing. His fake vibrato, his vocal tension, that tongue out, what the hell is that. They could have adjust every song to the natural and nondificculted pitch to sing for labrie- Sorry my english, Yo hablo español :D

I think he knows how to . It's just his technique isn't amazing. He could do a lot vibrato back in the day but I'm betting his vocal injury fucked up his vibrato. Keep in mind this is when Portnoy told him to get his shit together or get out.

This is false on a couple of levles. Firstly, he does know how to sing, he just can't anymore. It's true that it's due to him not keeping up with proper vocal health, but the man used to be able to do this live. The vibrato isn't "fake", it's just overley wide. It shows just how much you don't know the band since you've never seen any live from 1991 till 1999.

@@josenunez313 I will agree, that it is absolutely a shame . We lost one of the greatest voices in rock music. There are a multitude a reasons. Heavy touring combined with material that no one can call easy and a healthy those of vocal rupturing. In the end, it all comes down to the fact that he didn't treat his voice with the care it needs to sing this music. The "pride" comes from the fact that when he was young, he was untouchable. Right now we're seeing the price for that. I can't agree that "his technique was always awful." For a good 8 to 9 years, it was great. I have no clue what happened between Train of Thought and Octavarium but that was the pivotal point were it all went down hill. I can't say I'm too fond of dismissing the man just cause he can't do what he did back in his 20s. Even Russell Allen doesn't do the high stuff he did on Twilight in Olympus anymore.
