This song has, in my opinion, the best guitar solo of history of Dream Theater and what is most important about it is the reason why it was composed. John Petrucci wrote this solo not only for a song but for a friend who composed a piece for his father who had died a few months ago. And that is the reason why this solo is so special.
@Mutius825 жыл бұрын
I didn't know that, thank you. I think this is the greatest guitar solo of all time, even regardless of its inspiration.

Completely agree with you, I used to think David Gilmour's Comfortably Numb's solo was the best ever. But after listening to this years back, I've realize nothing can top this, the emotions put in to this and how well crafted the solo is and the meaning behind this, this is hands down, no doubt the best guitar solo of the history. And they've reacted almost the same way I did when I first listened to the song.

This song helped me deal with my father's illness, culminating in his death. I listened to this song every single day, heading for the hospital, remembering all the good and bad moments of childhood and adolescence, the advices, the laughters and even the tears. Every time I looked at his body, stretched out in the comatose at intensive care unit, in the care of the medical staff, I remembered Portnoy's voice. It must have been as painful for him to compose as it was for those who went through this situation. I think Petrucci thought he should make the best f%¨&* solo of his life for this song ... and did it !!!

John Petrucci at his absolute peak. What an incredible solo, showcasing not only his technicality but his expressiveness and passion as well. Those who say he doesn’t play with emotion need to hear this song. Queensryche and DT toured together in the early 2000s, and that must have been an absolute beast of a concert. I didn’t go to that one, but a friend of mine did and he still maintains it was the best concert he has ever been to.

This was written by Mike Portnoy for his father when he was dying. Mike got to play the demo version (with him singing) for his dad before he passed away. I'm listening to dreamtheater from Japan. When I first heard this song, I felt a special emotion, and the guitar solo brought me to tears. Of course, I didn't know the meaning of the lyrics or that the song was written by John Petrucci after Mike Portnoy's father passed away from cancer, so I was surprised when I saw the translation of the lyrics.I didn't understand the meaning of all the lyrics. This is the first song that made me burst into tears just because of the guitar solo. The other day, my sister-in-law, who had just been married two years ago, suddenly passed away from a subarachnoid hemorrhage at the age of 30. I stood by my brother from the bottom of my heart and prayed for the repose of the soul of my sister-in-law. I think it's so beautiful to have a relationship like the two of you, where you can be in sync with one song, be moved, and love each other. In Japan, I think there are few women who can sympathize with heavy metal and be moved together. So, I wish I could be a wonderful couple like you two, and while feeling a little jealous, I pray for your health and happiness from the bottom of my heart, and I'm looking forward to the video, sorry for the long post. Ta. From Hokkaido, Japan.😊

This song reminds me of my Dad and mom, and my wife that I lost back in 2012. My Wife died from complications to Hypokalemia, my father died of a stroke due to being diabetic. And my Mom followed a few months after due to depression. I remember going home from Bermuda to the Philippines and seeing my Dad in the hospital bed very happy to see me eventhough he could not talk straight anymore. I had to leave later that day to travel to my wifes hometown for her funeral. It was only after my wifes funeral that my younger brother told me that my dad passed away just few hours after I left the hospital. He just waited for me to get home to say goodbye. I've been a very different man ever since that happened. And this song always brings me to tears remembering my Parents. Thank you guys, I love you both :)

When this song came out my dad was still alive. And yeah I could tell it was an emotional song but it didn't quite "hit" if that makes sense? A few years later my father lost his fight with cancer and this song hits closer to home than I care to admit.
