I am glad I was at the real "Images & Words" tour in 1993, where you could meet and greet the band after the concert without any costs or wait time. I still have my signed tour shirt, which has never been washed since this day. :)
@dreamtheaterclub7 жыл бұрын
You usually still can, in most places, if you're willing to wait near the buses for an hour or two after the show.
@ThomasAbts7 жыл бұрын
Of course, you could do that. But they made this back then (when nobody knew the term meet & greet) after the concert inside the location. They even brought their own pens for signing. But this shouldn't be critisicm. It was some different time back then, when there were maybe 300 - 500 visitors at a DT concert. You could not do that today this way, because the band would spend the rest of the night signing stuff... ;)

I've done a few of the meet and greets with DT and the reason for no hand shakes aside germs there's potential for injury from overzealous fans who crush their hands when shaking them, in their excitement, and given the band usually meets around 50 fans per M&G and a 2-3 hr performance ahead of them, they just don't want to risk it.

I just had a G3 VIP experience in Reno, back in January 2018. JP was very nice to us. The crowd of us were told minutes before we met Joe, Phil and John to " not to shake hands for fear of spreading germs " ( we were in the start of Flu season too ) and fist bumps were " totally okay. " No one had a problem with this. But when it came to the signing of autographs, JP offered his hand to mine first, we shook and he smiled then signed my copy of his " Suspended Animation " disc ( he told me he was pleased to see others buying his solo CD ). He was very complimentary and professional the entire time, from autographs to picture taking. Every VIP experience I've had, from Satriani, to Hagar, to G3 and others. . . just about the majority of time, the artists have their minds in the set ups for their rigs/performances. So, it should be consistently encouraged to us FANS that, while artists love to meet their fans, we have to remember these artists ( heroes, really ) have a HUGE responsibility to perform at their absolute best. I would feel awful to make one of my heroes feel like crap if I passed on something to them, especially in these days where there is big money involved with delivering consistently great shows.

No wonder they are so loved by their fans. They are very down to earth, and they always take time to talk to each and every one of the vip ticket holders. I've been to a four of these, and it's always a great experience.

I'm not a famous musician, but I really don't care to shake hands unless absolutely necessary for a variety of reasons. In DT's case, they have about 1000 things to think about in their daily living, so I would think that staying away from sickness and even possible disease would be high on their priority list. If one of them gets sick, eventually all of them would most likely get sick also, and they literally cannot afford to miss scheduled shows. Besides, you never know what the behavior will be for people that visit and they might do something uncalled for, etc. So, I don't blame them one bit.

I can understand wanting to say hi and getting an autograph. But beyond that, it's just kinda weird and creepy. I mean what do you expect! They're just people. People who make a living as songwriters/performers. They don't belong to you. Why do you have to do a meet and greet?? They don't know you! They honestly are probably kinda weirded out by these people who treat them like a sideshow attraction or like they're on display at a zoo! Too show you enjoy their music just buy their albums and perhaps see them in concert for fuck's sake! Anything beyond that probably just creeps them out!

WTF?? hell no!!! it's not like you work at the post office. They became famous because they are great, ok, but all thanks to people supporting them and buying their cd. It's a shame how a fan gets a handshake rejected by maybe one of his favorites musicians. I admire JP, but at least he could firstbump or give him some kind a hug. Not the most gentle behavior by JP, and I don't care about he is famous. The fan probably felt dissapointed by the way JP rejected him

Before the show they need to be safe. I didn’t understand the handshake thing when I snuck backstage after a G3 show and Vai came out. I was about 18 and he did shake my hand but he did it in the most absolutely delicate way, to show me what I was doing. I understood after that. There are just assholes and stupid people, so I think it’s appropriate not to offer your hands. Especially when they are older, hands become pretty delicate.

Why the hyper-classical very high volume piano behind a metal band? Kind of annoying throughout this video. I never had extreme adulation for any of my favorite bands, hence meet & greets are just a minute and not worth all the money in the end. Not like the old days when you actually hung out backstage.

Have you tried shaking 100 peoples hands, with firm hard grips, and then playing guitar at a million notes per second?
