I love how vocal Portnoy is in the creation of the music, alot of times drummers get thrown to the back seat and its like "write a beat to these riffs". I do wish they would allow LaBrie into the mix as well, I'm not sure how much input he actually gets in the writing of things.
@batsc1k16 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it must be interesting to have these musical geniuses all confined in one recording studio, trying to find compromises for all their artistic ideas and the result is just very very smart, good music.

well mike this proves that even if you write an album in your fucking sleep, its still gonna be a fucking masterpiece, this was by far the best DT album for me...

@hollowoxdvox38966 жыл бұрын
3 Weeks . well when you have the chops + the creative talent . and as you could see in the video the fucking drummer has also his saying on the arrangement and writing and was also the co-producer hence the supreme drumsound on this album and previous/later ones . hope 14 will be as defining as this album . the problem with DT today is that they have nothing to prove anymore . the Last album they had to prove something ( ADTOE ) proved to be great :)
@CompleteProducer845 жыл бұрын
Yes ADTOE is amazing!!! In my top 5, and undoubtedly the best of the MM era

Lol, it took about three weeks to make this album. (To make all the songs, and make the album look and lyrics.) That's very scary.. just listen to Stream of Consciousness - That song would have been taken like a year to create. So wonderful songs in Train Of Thought. Cool album. (Btw, Honor Thy Father has been changed around five times before he was sure about how he would be playing [in the drum intro]!)

It is the PRS Mark Tremonti (Alter Bridge/Creed) singlecut sig. guitar. Tremonti is a huge fan of Petrucci and I believe they gifted each other with their respective sig. gutiars. JP was just fooling around with it during creative sessions for this album.

Definitely one of the BEST Dream Theater albums and closest to my heart next to Six Degrees of Inner turbulence. My heart breaks everytime I listen to this album because all of the Dream Theater efforts after Train Of Thought i.e. Octavarium & Systematic Chaos just haven't been able to seal the sound that this particular album or even previous albums had produced.

PRS Singlecut, probably a Tremonti model, for the looks of the inlay in the 12 fret...looks like a block over the fret...but definitely a PRS Singlecut in a black sunburst or tricolor sunburst as they call it... or something similar, video quality doesn't allow for the real color to be seen...anyways...check out PRS' website...and as a matter of fact there's a new version of the Tremonti with a very similar color that's just coming out...regards!

the other guys are masters of their craft, labrie is kinda like the guitarist around the corner that can nail all the notes in flight of the bumble bee, but if you ask him to play with a jam or jazz band, he'd sound like a broken record.
@KyleJPie1015 жыл бұрын
A standard disk holds 80 minutes of music. As Portnoy said, they were done as soon as they hit 68 minutes. They could have put one more song on it. And they did NOT write anymore music for the album. They did this in a matter of three weeks and once they had 7 songs they stopped.
@Schraupe17 жыл бұрын
actually, then you should LIKE petrucci. He's definitely not only about speed. Just listen to his solo of hollow years on the budokan dvd. It give's the chills everytime I hear it. Of course he does some shredding there too, but he plays melodic too, and his shredding there has a function, It serves as bridge between the calm and the "heavy" part. Just like in "The Spirit Carries On"

no prob. That's true, if you play guitar, JP has to be in the list of your fav gutiarists. And for all the fools who think JP is all about speef only -.- I feel sorry for you, try to find acoustic versions of DT's song that JP has done and also, in all of DT's album listen to the types of voicing and chord expressions he uses... he's not just a fast player, he's a VERY musical guitarist. By the way, off topic, but JP's EBMM sig. guitar is amazing, never get tired of that guitar~

he's the one who's holding the camera... you can hear his voice at the end (7:10)... but the guys write the music, James maybe can input some ideas, but he doesn't play any instruments in the band (some percussions sometimes)... but the thing is every song they write they do it thinking that James will be singing it afterwords, and maybe also they can write the lyrics for some songs and do the music next... that's all i gotta say, take care, bye

"the fans would say we didn't spend much time on it"... so true... fans can be so cruel. Interesting video, but I'd love to see how Petrucci or whoever in DT writes his riffs or lyrics and how the songs are built. In this video they obviously arleady know how the songs are.
